SC2 News Update - No More Commanders

Dearest coop players:
By now the news of no more content has reached the forums. The commanders we were tasked to create were powercreeped, and the mutators we were tasked to balance have proven to be even more volatile than we anticipated. Whatever you may hear about what has happened here, know this: Co-op did not went down gloriously in a last patch. We killed it. Our greed killed it, and now our greed has consumed us as well. You will never see us again, fans. Tell our playerbase that we loved them, and that their developer died in defense of acquiring more shekels.
Au revoir.

Is this suppose to be a quote or something? If so, source please.

Kind of odd as an insertion/assertion if it’s just a personal opinion. Not the content but more the format.

It’s really so sad news but i still like SC2.

Dearest Helena…brood war

It’s a reference to Admiral DuGalle’s speech in the last cinematic of Brood War

I don’t know about Karass; but Rohana and Ji’nara would be cool. Also, add Tosh and Izsha.

Unless blizzard sells the rights to SC franchise to another company we ain’t seeing SC3. Blizzard has given up on RTS.

Stop crushing my dream…

runs away crying

FWIW, I believe they were the last ones to give up on RTS. Everybody else jumped off that train a few “station years” back. Can somebody name the most prominent RTS besides ones by Blizzard? All I can think up of is perhaps a Command & Conquer remake a few year back?

The Dawn of War series kept going until a few years back. Total War is still going strong.

Members of Blizzard RTS teams will make a Frost Giant game in the coming years.

Edit: It looks like Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition is still being updated.

“we’re not going to be producing additional for-purchase content”

Since Co-op maps don’t cost money, I assume you’re going to add them?

They do cost money…

Maps don’t grow in the wilderness of video games…

In theory, yes. In practice, no. We went 1.5 years without a new mission. This was before the announcement, but after “that feeling” that Coop was stalling. It wasn’t crashing and burning (I mean, we can still play it today), but we were past its glory days, from a few years in. That’s when it seemed to plateau/peak.

This ^^. Much time goes into missions, balancing them for 2 players, resources, spawn points, viability of objectives, etc.

Wild maps ripe for the picking, weren’t you listening!!!

It’s our fault, we wanted them all straight away, didn’t leave them a seed crop of maps to grow the next batch successfully.

Then again, maybe they didn’t properly do a map crop rotation, so the map soil lost its map nutrients and blew away. You’ve gotta leave some time for the map soil to fallow, or grow some map nutrient rich map crops every once in a while.

I rather have them improve Cradle of Death before they make a new map. I got some ideas.
