Yeah I wouldn’t count on anyone actually helping here. Game is managed by like 2 interns and Blizzard doesn’t dedicate any resources on maintaining or optimizing it for modern PCs. They broke something with the last patch and I doubt they would fix anything any time soon. This is the only game that crashes in my entire library of games and I have seen all the excuses for why it crashes: drivers, one drive, 40 series gpu, 14th gen cpu, god, etc.
It’s not a settings issue - you’re simply being drop hacked. It started happening to me just a few days ago after I beat someone in a game, he dropped me before I could win. Now whenever I see him or his alts he drop hacks me over and over. You can buy these hacks online for like $10/month - Blizzard has no support because this is an old game and they dont monetize it like WoW. If this was WoW it would’ve been patched. Just create a new account - they’re free. Blizzard is terrible ever since it was acquired by Activision
Of note - my PC specs or Windows versions etc has not changed in the last 5 years. The fact that someone is getting dropped 3 months ago repeatedly, and I only just started being dropped recently means the recent patch opened up a vulnerability and someone is taking advantage via selling these hacks
Drop hacked? we managed to play like 4-5 hours without issue(we didnt alt tab much if at all) then the second I alt tab I got an error message. ALSO I got a response from blizzard. In their infinite wisdom this is what they said.
My name is Game Master Ymoraunda and I picked up your follow up response here on the issue with playing Starcraft II.
Sorry to hear that you ran into this situation as I know it cannot be fun to experience. I took a look into this eventuality to see what could have happened.
Since you have tried all troubleshooting steps and It didn’t resolve the problem, we invite you to ask the Blizzard player community for help on the tech support forums: Technical Support - SC2 Forums or other community gaming sites. Local computer or network technicians may also be able to help if you’ve exhausted all other resources.
Thank you for taking the time to read through all this and I wish you all the very best on your future adventures.
Kind regards,
GM Ymoraunda.
Narrowed it down.Playing in fullscreen and never alt tabbing prevented any crashes. We managed to get to chapter 10.
Doubt its an alt tab problem - I run windowed full screen and alt tab all the time. If I don’t see that guy in a game, I never crash - as soon as I see him and he’s losing the game - screen freezes repeatedly and I crash. I play like 5 games a day without issue if he’s not in there.
This crash happens even when playing offline.
I started crashing constantly about a month ago and idk how to fix it.
It’s only crashing in custom games, likely due to outdated shaders vs current graphic drivers, but idk how to really determine what the cause is.
It has made this game unplayable beyond vanilla content as far as I can tell.
Steps taken:
Repair/reinstall/complete wipe of game
Clearing the cache
reinstall of nvidia graphics drivers
Scoured the internet for a solution and asked chatgpt for help as well
I got no f’n idea what to do, here.

For anyone using an 13900k CPU the following fixed all my crash issues with ALL games using Unreal Engine. First, download the latest bios for your CPU and install it. NOTE: this resets your bios settings, if you have specific settings you may wish to note them somehow. I have an ASUS motherboard and used these directions. After installing you will want to make updates to the bios settings (again directions are all for my ASUS motherboard, your milage may vary):
- Performance Preferences = Intel Default Settings
- Intel Default Settings = Performance
- Ai Overclock Tuner = XMP I
- Asus MultiCore Enhancement = Disabled - Enforce All Limits
Also you will want to balance the cores in the AI tweaker tab:
- Performance Core Ratio: Sync All Cores
There should be a new option underneath it.
- All Core Ratio Limit. 47 (there is a 100x multiplier on it so 47 = 4700MHz or 4.7GHz).
adjust any other bios settings to your prior settings then press F10 to save and exit. Yes, it does limit your overclocking but I have not yet noticed any significant degradation in performance. (edited)
I have the same problem with SC2, the game won’t open and returns to the desktop. I have tried everything, updated drivers, I have reinstalled sc2, I have done everything and it doesn’t work… HELP
