Receiving "Error: A problem occurred while connecting

hiya,

I can login to SC2 just fine, but when I try to join a game, I cannot.

Steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Login to Battle.net. Launch SC2.
  2. Navigate to Versus->1V1.
  3. Click on Unranked.
  4. Wait for the system to find a game.

Expected behavior: I enter to lobby for the game match.
Observed behavior: An orange error dialogue appears, stating “Error A problem occurred while connecting to the game. Please try again later”.

Steps I have already tried

  1. Restarting my machine.
  2. Ipconfig releasing and renewing my ip address.
  3. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
  4. Restoring my firewall to default settings and re-authorizing an exception for SC2 after launch.
  5. Hitting the reset button on my fiberoptic modem, bypassing my router and directly wiring via Ethernet to the modem to isolate if it is a router setting issue.
  6. Resetting in game options from SC2

I am now at a loss for what to I can do to try to fix this issue. Any ideas?

My system specs are as follows:

Same issue running windows 11. I think I might have to drop it back to windows 10 to get it to work but I haven’t tried it yet. I would suggest you also send feedback to Microsoft so they are aware of the problem. The more of us that report it the more likely they are to resolve the issue.

Hey guys,

Because Windows 11 is still in Insider Preview you may see issues with games and other programs due to them not being optimized for that OS. If rolling back to Windows 10 is an option for you I do recommend it. Other than that as Anotherdrift mentioned be sure to send your freedback to Microsoft.

Hey I just installed SC2 on a brand new PC with AMD integrated graphics with Windows 11,
and I get the same connection error when launching any game, i.e. vs AI.

The firewall allowing doesn’t kick in straight away, and sometimes at all.

I’ve tried all the steps above, including switching to D3D11, nothing helped out. I could launch the campaign, so it seems like a networking issue especially regarding that same error.
Can you please help?

Can confirm, I’m getting the exact same issue. Got a new PC, Windows 11, fresh install of SC2, unable to connect to multiplayer lobbies. Followed ALL of the self help ts. Something’s just going wrong still. Haven’t seen anyone with a fix yet.

Same issue. I can play campaign just fine, but can not play any VS matches, either AI or others. PC is 2 years old, Windows 11. I noticed first posts are from 2021 but recent posts are only 14 and 10 days old.

I was able to fix the issue. I followed these steps:

Solution 4: Run a Network Diagnostic and Check for Blocking Services
Sometimes, background services in Windows 11 can interfere with network connections. Run a network diagnostic to identify any issues:

  1. Run Network Troubleshooter:
  2. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  3. Run the Internet Connections and Network Adapter troubleshooters.
  4. Disable Background Services:
o Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
o Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
o Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    o Disable unnecessary startup programs.
o Restart your PC and try launching the game again.
