When I choose a random mission, it seems like I get Dead of Night more than all the other maps put together - I’d say probably about 60% of the time.
I know why this happens; it’s because it’s a popular map and my ally chose that map.
That said, I don’t see this as necessary. If the map is that popular, the game should be able to match people up with each other where both people chose Dead of Night so that random can be a little bit more random.
I’m choosing random because I want to play a variety of maps. I don’t mind waiting a bit longer in the queue to make sure that I get that variety.
It’s because if you get matched with someone who has selected DoN, then that’s the map that gets “randomly” chosen for you. This means a lot of people play DoN. Enjoy the I-DEFers.
That’s precisely what I’m getting at. If so many people are choosing DoN, it shouldn’t need to match them with randoms; they should be able to be matched with each other.
I’m perfectly willing to wait a bit longer for matchmaking if it means that DoN comes up a bit less frequently.
And a fairly good solution would be to introduce map vetoes, since so many people have requested it already for other reasons. You’ll still be matched with other chosen maps, but you can choose to avoid I-DEF parties.
I think you should keep track of what maps come up when playing random. A decent sample would be 50 games. I’m extraordinarily skeptical DoN comes up that often. I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes up more often than true random, but anything approaching 60%? No way. I’d be shocked if it was even 20% of your games.
I get what you’re saying. I feel like when I do random, I get more of a certain type of map than others. I’m surprised it’s Dead of Night though for you
Yes, PLEASE allow me to veto this horrible map! I’d veto it, Cradle of Death, Part & Parcel. Or maybe just veto Dead of Night 3 times. I’m just so sick of that map.
I once played DoN 10 times in a row because I chose that map. If someone played on random and they happened to be matched up with me, they are going to get that map.
Of the 1859 games played on NA, Asia, and EU - Dead of Night and Void Thrashing come up the most often. I’m usually on the Random queue. The high occurrence of DoN, and being 10% higher than the next, makes sense if people are repeatedly choosing DoN.
The least are Mist Opportunities and Scythe of Amon.
I’m happy that SoA came up the least, coz of the number of allies that insist on clearing the near-shard first (for the bonus) instead of the expo shard.
Too bad MO is down there, first map that forced me to split my army and not F2A.
Well, that’s precisely the counter-point… the purpose of Random Mission is to ensure the queue won’t be that long, even to the point that you never get into a game. It’s just doing what it’s supposed to. It doesn’t know that you really wanted “random, but not a previously played map”.
I always leave every other DoN map right at the start, because it shows up about twice as often as it would be statistically expected, and I personally find it boring to play. Not a perfect solution, but it works 100% of the time.
The closest I’ve come to cheesing RtK is with Zeratul, for the 3rd & 4th set of shards, and 2nd bonus. (Put army in Void Array, go around the defenses, pop army out.)
And also a little bit with Vorazun & Void Rays, doing roughly the same thing. Though I enjoy vaporizing enemies more.
I don’t mind if a CO who excels at pushing, does just that. As long as they don’t whine about it. Not everyone likes picking “quick run” COs. I either picked a CO with a slow ramp up time, or got stuck with it via Random Commander. I’m going to enjoy playing that CO. Not conform to people’s speed running “requirements”.
What is this even supposed to mean? That I somehow like the map because I did a video on it a year ago literally “that one time”? Or that I somehow changed public perception on an already stupidly popular map, by using a video where the average watch time is 11 minutes and 25 seconds?
Well, I don’t think SC2 is still at that level where a developer will bother programming that into the game, unfortunately. We must remember that this is a 10 year old game haha.
I can’t stand Scythe of Amon that would be a hard veto for me. The bonus is totally stupid on that map; the prism is clearly aiming for the path of MOST resistance. add to that the timed mission nature and the power of later shard aoe and it is extremely annoying whenever I play it
