Protoss Turtle Macro

Something that I fear is becoming more and more popular is the turtletoss playstyle. For those unfamiliar, a protoss player will simply turtle on mineral based buildings, while making minimal army, and then push for a late game turtling on 4 base with minimal aggro. We saw this playstyle in Terran, and we were quick to nuke that style as such. I think a simple fix would be to make the photon cannon and/or shield battery cost gas as well as mineral, so that it wouldn’t be as easy to build an army while turling.

This strategy also has offensive capabilities, which I don’t think makes much sense. With the mineral only cost for shield batteries, is a cheese in which you proxy some building, usually stargate, and pump out units. You are effectively able to deny defenders advantage with this all, and are able to hit the opponents main base from the outside due to tempests/voids. I feel this idea makes protoss a tad too cheesy of a race, and could be improved on. Thoughts?

Nydus and overlord drops are your friend.

So, nerf our early aggression(Zealot), nerf our midgame(Prism/Charge), nerf our turtle(Battery from this post.), nerf our Air(Carriers). Seems UnReasonable.

Mass observers every game.

so what about zerg going to 4 bases and 80 drones with minimum aggro and mineral-only units?

Use siege units like ravagers or brood lords to break static defence.
Go overexpand when enemy turtle with minimal army. And trade with economical advantage.
Proxy against Zerg is useful first 4 minutes into the game only and then got eaten by lings.
Problem solved.

I appreciate the love all,
but I play terran…

Drops are your friend, so are siege tanks, so are mass viking-liberator-ghost against sky-toss.

Besides the obvious “expand if they turtle”, consider tanks, ghosts (with nukes) and thors/vikings.

I find that a turtling toss likes to pick off seige units using tempests hiding on top of a wall of cannons.

Also always look for hidden proxy nexus.

The matchup isn’t an easy win, but if you know how to address it, it is terran favored

I get it,only Terran has the right to turtle.

I say destroy their mineral lines nonstop until you have a nice sized army. If they pour a lot of minerals into their turrets there is no way they can keep up with your economy especially if they are not being aggressive. Midgame scouting is probably really important too. (With an air unit or scan obviously since they probably have the entrances block with cannons.

If you do make the cannons cost gas, then they will probably have an hp and damage buff. Which might increase your issue. But what do I know. I mostly play Overwatch lol
