Yeah, the amount of P3 Novas that only control her and build no army/leave some at base is quite staggering in my experience. End up as barely useful ally.
The decrease in CD for Nuke seems pretty over the top honestly, the prestige would still be really powerful without it.
I admit this prestige has downsides that I didn’t realize before trying it out myself
It’s crazy how much I relied on the Combat Suit all these years. I mean no one has to tell me how good it is, with the right masteries it turns Nova into an almost invincible one-man army that can take even late game ground waves easily - but… man this is really a heavy trade!
Also the lack of Combat Suit Nova means someone else has to do the early game work, and since my coop partners are casuals 8 times out of 10, it means I still have to carry the first objectives, while trying to get value out of P3 Nova. If I’m not out there softening enemy bases the entire prestige is pointless.
This means I have to invest resources in a proper army, resources that could have been used for clearing bases with Airstrikes! So the competence of my partner directly influences how much I can get done with P3 Nova, which I think is great design.
Second, for some reason I forgot that Sabotage drone can only hit ground forces, which means all those Battlecruisers, Carriers and Hybrid Flyers are still there for the armies to pick up. That you lose cloak completely seems to be intended design, as that prevents you from safely sniping whatever survives your drones. And of course, Nova alone can’t deal with most objectives herself, unlike shotgun Nova…
Finally, the prestige is largely dependant on map. Comparatively useless on maps like Miner Evacuation and Mists Opportunity (weak bases, frequent waves), but super powerful on more “telegraphed” maps, like Chain of Ascension or Void Trashing.
All in all this seems to be the best designed prestige. It adds flavor and not just numbers, the powerlevel varies from map to map, it makes me reshuffle my masteries (I never used the Nuke CD reduction before, for example), it makes me rethink my gameplan based on how my partner behaves (can I afford this airstrike? Or can this Derpathur take at least this one freaking wave… pretty please?).
In Void Trashing there is a catch tho, that the moment you start attacking the trashers bases they spawn and start attacking (this happens normally when you attack them) so you can have all trashers attacking the fortress simultaneously. Of course with a good multitask work and masteries you can still manage it, but it’s a bit more dangerous in this map. However, it’s also more fun and gives more chance to display skills, the missions seems more urgent, so I like it a lot.
Haha yes, I suffered this firsthand!
I thought I would be cool and smart to jump from base to base, but we ultimately lost the game because of me doing that…
I didn’t know better since I never play the map and we were both at a low level. Oh well!
But that’s cool because it gives a double edge to the prestige. If you don’t know what are you doing you can lose the game. Nova can be more powerful but you need multitasking, planning beforehand and make good desicions to get the most of it. I wish the other 2 prestiges offered something similar in terms of gameplay.
A bit unrelated, but since her P2 is meh, there is hope for replacement. And i personally would like a prestige that will allow us to train BC from her campaign. Upgrades should include atx battery, tactical jump, and cloak. disadvantage - no more airstrike.
What can I say, i love battlecruisers One of the reasons why I rushed H&H P2.
Wow you seem to play Nova a lot differently than I. I tend to forget about griffin strike (sometimes to my detriment), and have basically never used Assault Mode beyond the first few minutes.
Assault Mode is missed, a little, in the early game. It definitely makes the early game a cake walk, but it’s perfectly possible to rush marines and have them out in time to intercept the first wave on RtK. But the outrageous power Super Ghost Nova gives in the mid to late game is so worth it.
Minor Evac is probably the map where Assault Mode is missed most (maybe Temple). But even then, Nova can still launch drones every 22 seconds on defense to give a nice little reprieve. And on DoN, she can stay out all night launching drones and taking out buildings.
Shotgun is fun, but I don’t think it comes close to the power of Super Ghost.
Nova P3 gonna be best for mutations
I can confirm Nova P3 is not immune to lava , guess it’s not technically super cloak hahahah ah.
Think of it as Abathur’s toxic nests. They can still be affected by AOE but cannot be directly attacked.
You know that lava is just a bunch of units attacking now right? That’s why enemy ghosts can walk through it.
Lol, that’s why I tested it and felt it was funny to share the results. And not because I can’t tell that Super Cloak means “undamage-able” xD. But uh thanks…
Lava knows all, it sees all…
(I clearly know the result, but now I’m curious if Zeratul’s P1 super cloak beats lava)
I would prefer we get more prestiges as opposed to removing current ones. I’m sure there will be people happy to use even some of even the ‘worst’ ones, myself included for Nova p2. They can always buff/nerf the current ones instead of reworking them entirely.
As soon as Nova spawns I am out on the map clearing large portions of it, all this needs is snipe and good drone placement, and for buildings/objectives some marines. This is to say combat suit is really not necessary for her, but it is certainly useful. Specifically if Nova gets surrounded by lings/zealots you can blink away, or for certain unit comps on lock and load I will need to blink to the first lock to stop its capture. Blink is really the star of her combat suit for tanking and mobility.
I think the loss of combat suit should mostly be made up for with super cloak. As with all prestiges it opens up new ways to play so we must be careful with comparisons to the base commander.
Lava doesn’t kill you because it sees you!
Lava kills you because <insert boring science stuff>.
The thermal energy is a sinister being that enjoys your suffering.
I don’t know about P3 being everything. Personally I don’t enjoy it as much. However, I have it to be powerful and satisfying at times. It was a good Prestige; while 1 & 2 trade away power for not much upside. It is a very good prestige even if I don’t like it as much as standard.
Griffin Airstrike is so immensely good when used well. There’s usually a whole section of guides dedicated to using it well so I’d highly recommend improving in the way you use it. Using it well made a big difference to my Nova play. In general Nova hugely rewards accurate timing, planning, and counters (and punishes when you miss )
I love love love Nova P3. I dropped 6 nukes in one game and I wasn’t even using it on cooldown.
Karax P3 is by far my favorite P3 though. You can just spam top bar all day and purify every push, and you don’t lose all your towers like P2. He can solo most waves just with his cheap lance too. His stuff comes out even more slowly than usual, but they’re ready by the time you need an army anyway.
Played it for a while and found out it is almost useless on 5 maps out of 15.
Miner Evac, Mist opportunities, OE, Tmeple and Void Launch. VP is also questionable.
