Hello,
I have some serious issues about FPS Drop on when I play the game for more than 1 hour. I usually have around 120 FPS, which is fine, but as the game run for more than 30 mins (less or more) I’ve got a progressive drop of FPS, until it’s unplayable for me (30 FPS)…
I’m playing on a gamer laptop (ASUS ROG), with a good spec for SC2 :
OS : Windows 10 (64 bits)
CPU : Intel® Core™ i5-7300HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
Memory : 8 GB
I tried a lot of things resolve my issue, all my game settings are on low, changing affinity, switch to 32bits SC2 version, updates drivers CPU / GPU, add NVIDIA high performance for SC2, disable every useless background program for SC2, (basically everything Blizzard says about FPS problems), but it still persist…
I bought a fan for laptop that cool my laptop while playing, I had better performances but still FPS drop after 1h, it may be a overheating problem ?
I still don’t think this issue is normal on a gamer laptop with good CPU, could you help me ? I’m really desesperate if I need to buy another computer to just play the game…
I could do dxdiag / HWMonitor repoting if needed.
your problem is your ram. starcraft 2 have serious memory leaks and runs out of ram if you have only 8 gigabytes. i have the same problem myself on my laptop with 8 gigabytes of ram. your best solution is to upgrade your ram.
Hello Akuseru,
Your CPU is not the best, but in 1v1 game the CPU should be strong enough for 60 FPS most time.
8 GB Memory are good, if i play SC2 the system use allover (Windows + SC2) only 7 GB memory (while 16GB installed)
If your performance reduced after 1 hour I think as you, thats overheating…
You can measure the temperature… i assume CPU reach >90 Celsius?
Laptops are in general not a good idea for Gaming …
eh, no, 8 gigabytes is not enough. the memory needs to be used both for background tasks and for starcraft 2. if you reduce the number of background tasks to a minimum, you might be able to get better performance but, you should get more ram.
Hey Akuseru,
If you’re closing all background programs then 8GB RAM should be more than enough. The system requirements recommends 4GB (with 3GB minimum).
I would agree with GandalfAwA that it sounds like an overheating issue, since it’s happening after 30 minutes or more. If an external fan or cooling pad doesn’t help you may need to take the laptop to a professional or contact the manufacturer to get the cooling system inspected. Perhaps the thermal paste needs to be replaced or reapplied.
thanks everybody for answers
