High latency on brazilian servers

I live in Brazil and i’m literally getting less ping at central US servers.
Blizzard pls fix brazilian servers, it’s been like this for a month now, i had to figure out how to come to the foruns and make a post just because i’m sick of playing with 100ms at a US server while my own region has 200ms

Hey, Pikedastr! We are not aware of any issues at the moment causing high latency issues. We’ve seen some issues with World of WarCraft specifically that we’re tracking, but nothing reported with StarCraft II.

I’ll keep a look out for any other similar reports, but could you include a WinMTR test? Run this test for 10 to 15 minutes while the problem occurs. If you can run one to the US servers, then another to the Brazil servers, it would be immensely helpful to compare the two!

Copy and paste the text file created and paste it between two ~~~ like so:

WinMTR Here

If you have issues pasting here, use Pastebin and post the end of the link. (ie. 123456 for pastebin.com/123456)

Hey there,

I’m gonna run the test now, but just wanted to let you know that it will not be possible to test brazilian servers since the page linked in the reply does not provide a Brasil IP adress for the purpose of testing (i don’t know how to post an image here, but trust me, there’s only the IP for US West and Central).

Here`s the Central US test

Your test is fine for a little while, but then this happens. You start losing half of packets - somewhere between that last hop from your ISP and the 52.93.44.169 IP. We can’t see where the breakdown is, but it’s far enough away from you that you may be able to work around it using a VPN. Can you try using a VPN and see if your latency is improved?

i have never used a VPN and have no idea how to use one. Are there any free ones around?

Pikedastr,

There are actually a number of them that are free, or which have free trials. Since they’re third party programs and technically not supported, we can’t tell you exactly which ones to download, but look around and see if you can find a good free one that meets your needs. You’ll need one that either has a server near you in Brazil, or a server near us in the US. As long as you aren’t downloading with them, most will have reasonable data caps on them that will let you play long enough to test things out. Let us know if the VPN helps or not - it’s important information to see what should be done from here.

Hey there,

I used hotspot shield with a server on east US to test on brazillian servers, ping was still at 250~ but i did noticed that the stuttering just vanished, here’s the wintmr test log

Unfortunately it looks like that particular VPN is blocking the test - there’s no data. That said, that tells us that the stability issues are indeed ISP related. My suggestion would be to test various other VPNs to see if you can get a better connection. You might ask any gamer friends you have or other Brazilian players if there is a good one they like to use. I know the one you selected usually works better for United States players, but there are so many out there that we can’t really provide more help with picking the perfect one for each person’s situation (each one is different after all.)

In the mean time, I’ll keep an eye out for more reports of this problem to see if maybe there is trouble with your ISP’s route to our Heroes of the Storm servers.

So i used hideme this time and it seems like it doesn’t block the test (i can’t tell but at least not every line says “no response from host”).

Here’s the results:

Once again i didn’t noticed any stuttering which happens ocasionally when playing without a VPN, but ping was at around 400~ ms, which is expected i guess since the VPN server was in germany (i can’t choose in the free version :stuck_out_tongue:)

Hope this (real) test brings some clarification.

Edit: Update: I was playing some normals in brazillian servers without the VPN and i didn’t noticed the stuttering either, gonna run the winMTR test again

Here’s the naked BR server test:

Hey, Pikedastr! Thank you for including the two WinMTR tests! The new test without the stuttering looks much better than the one before. The only loss that occurred was here:

It didn’t persist throughout the rest of the test, so this is likely some sort of mitigation or firewall on the ISP’s side and can be safely ignored for now.

From the test earlier on, there was more loss that was occurring which appeared to be some sort of configuration issue on the peers or lines of the connection. It looks like that issue may have been fixed. Has it been stable without the VPN since? Does it only seem to happen during specific times in the day?

just played a match and it seems like during nighttime its actually pretty bad, not as bad as i remember it to be for a while but definitely some stuttering, although not as bad as before, and ping was at around 210~ms. During the afternoon test ping was at around 120ms (basically on par with US east/central, which was still odd since the distance should be way shorter).

I didn’t run a test this time tho.

Hey Pikedastr,

Since the problem is worse at night this pretty much confirms the problem is occurring between your internet provider and the game servers. Playing during “prime time” at night when most people are on the internet means the routes are seeing congestion, and that is not something that Blizzard can address unfortunately since it is occurring outside of our network.

Your best bet would be to try different VPNs until you find one that is stable that would let you connect to a VPN server in Brazil, at least until the issue clears up on the ISP side.

Oh i see then, i’ll continue testing regardless just to monitor the ping in different times of the day.

PS: today the ping, at around 3pm was ~20-30ms, the first time in 6 months that it’s back to normal levels, hope it stays like that.

Glad to hear it’s been normal for the first time in a while, Pikedastr! If the problem continues during the evenings/nights, please let us know! A new WinMTR during this time should give us the most accurate reading

Here’s a test at around 9pm with a 31ms avg ping.

Were you experiencing the high latency issues during this test, Pikedastr? The average latency seems fine as you mentioned its around 30-40ms, but the there’s some spikes starting on this node:

I marked the loss here, but it doesn’t appear to be persisting throughout the test. The worst latency though does persist throughout the test and spikes up to 625ms. It does seem to normalize to only around 90ms on the game servers, however.

Honestly i didn’t noticed it, not even during fights, but to be fair i don’t really have time to look at ping during micro-intensive moments but i’ll play some normals to check it out
