Tried to reinstall Starcraft II for the 10 year anniversery (uninstalled after the Wacraft III Reforged incident) on a computer (NVIDIA, drivers all up to date) that I was able to previously play the game on at max settings. Everything downloaded quickly, scanned files, up to date.
“Graphics device is not available at this time. Please try starting Starcraft II again, or restarting machine. If problem persists, please contact support” yadda yadda yadda.
Tried restarting Starcraft, nope. Restarted computer. Nada. Scanned, says files are good. OnDrive is off, know it’s not that. Uninstalled, reinstalled. No. Double-checked drivers. Up to date.
It can’t be Battle.net, because I’m still actively playing Modern Warfare, and was just barely playing it, in fact.
And like I said, this is the computer I most recently have played Starcraft II with, so I know it should work.
The heck, Blizzard.
Hey Styker,
We’ve seen this caused by an issue with the settings file, or by a driver configuration issue.
First try resetting the game settings through the Battle.net app and see if that gets it to launch
If it’s still erroring, try using Display Driver Uninstaller to wipe the Nvidia drivers and then reinstall the latest version.
- Download DDU here
- Click on the first link under “Announcements” titled Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Then click the “Official Download Here” link to start the download.
- Run the .exe file and extract the contents to the default location. Open the new folder and run the Display Driver Uninstaller.
- You will get a pop-up saying it is recommended to reboot in Safe Mode, feel free to ignore this if you are not familiar with how to get into Safe Mode. To start the removal process, click on the driver type on the right side first, then click “Clean and restart”
- Once the PC restarts, go ahead and download the current drivers here: Geforce Driver Results | NVIDIA
- Run the driver installer and use the default/recommended install steps.
Resetting game settings through app worked. Thx for the quick response.
Now get back workin’ on that Starcraft FPS, dangit.
