Game crashing due to overheated

I just brought this computer which is Windows 10 Home Inspiron 17 3000 months ago. I was force to upgrade from Windows 8.1 since I want to do more heavy gaming. I never had this type of computer before so a lot of stuff is new to me. I started basic by upgrading all the devices that I know like graphic drivers, dixdag to 11 or 12, audio, firmware, bios which I don’t know much about, and others through device manger. Also, Dell Assisi helps me update software and check. All updates to Windows updates says I’m up to date.

Upon downloading games off of Battle net app everything went smoothly. Install went smoothly until I play the games. Game menu had high temperatures will get to 170F to 185F with loud fans running. Games when played couldn’t hold 60 FPS or 30FPS. It will stay around 15FPS to 20FPS per game. I get many crashes so I install HWM Monitor to see what is going on to find out my GPU graphics drive (Geforce MX230) was the one that is causing everything. Lowering my graphic setting in the game to low helps little bit. Having cooling pad helps too.

After following several articles and few on here I got my games to be playable expect for Hero of the Storm and Starcraft 2. Starcraft 1 and Hearthstone are stable around 60FPS with temperature around 150F to 160F. I’ve stress strain with Heavens Benchmarking my score was very poor. I have the latest update for my GPU Driver. I’ve overclock my volatage to the right setting with MSI afterburner form base 600ghz to 1513ghz after reading the boost to my GPU secs it should be when applying. To my suprise some of the heat went down when testing on Hero of the Storm it can now do 60FPS but Starcraft 2 still at 180F to 189F and still hovering 30FPS to 15FPS.

I have try fresh reinstall of windows with no luck, reinstall GPU graphics driver with no luck,

Here’s an article showing what specs should be but an error said I can’t show links in profile.

Here’s my specs:
Windows 10 Home Inspiron 17 3000
Intel Irus I7 core-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30Ghz
Geforce MX230 version 442.19
16.0GB RAM
1T hard drive
1920x1080, 60Hz
System type 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor

your specs is fairly bad and not really strong enough to run the game well at normal settings. that forces the game to activate the turbo, which greatly increases heat. fans accumulate a lot of dust over time while the thermal paste have a limited life span. you will therefore need to clean the fan and apply new thermal paste. that will fix your heat problem at the very least.

My specs can do medium settings on this game and can be push to all high settings. It’s not really weak as you put it. Your not taking into account of compensating.

I’ve figure out the problem. The heating of fan isn’t the problem but a symptom that I’m noticing. As of right now the problem is dealt with but thank you for your time. =)

fans accumulates dust over time, making them less effective. fans can be cleaned however. thermal paste might also need to be replaced for the cpu fan.

Curious, what was the issue? I’m currently having a heat issue specifically with SC2 with my GPU. My machine’s specs well exceed anything SC2 would demand, though I do find that in certain parts and menus, FPS shoots up to 512 FPS. The machine is clean, no dust issues… the GPU is water cooled, the covers, the filters have all been examined and removed currently to make sure there is no physical issue. My settings in SC2 have been messed with to set to their lowest vs the highest but neither makes a difference.

So, out of curiosity, what did you figure your issue to be and the solution?

what is your specs? i need to know in order to help you.
