Error 5:998, game wont launch

Error 5:998, the game wont launch. It asks me to try launching the game again, but that doesnt work. Restarting my computer creates sc2 to have a small update that completes basically instantly. Then pressing play creates the error again. Multiple restarts caused the same sequence of update-then-error. Scan and repair had no effect. Has anyone else had this? How can I fix it?

do you have one drive?

I looked into this since today I suddenly had launch errors even after reinstall when this had never occurred on my rig before activating onedrive. After breaking the onedrive sync on this device, there was a small update that repaired the game and let me reconnect to my account with all my keybinds and whatnot. I haven’t played any games yet, but I was able to launch the application where it would fail beforehand. I recalled seeing some sc2 replays get bumped to one drive, maybe some of these files getting scanned doesn’t play nicely with the sc2 application. Good call on the onedrive, that fixed it for me. :love_you_gesture:

unfortunately

how does one un-onedrive-ify sc2?

you disable one drive all together.

" Unlink OneDrive from your computer"

OneDrive Settings (Cloud Icon in Notification Pane)

Account

Select, “Unlink this PC” next to Account thumbnail in top center of screen.

If you still want to use OneDrive in general, you can set it to not sync the SC2 data. Using the article below, unsync the Starcraft II folder in your Documents folder.

Or, if you want to disable OneDrive altogether, refer to the post SoapOnAStick made above. Just to note, simply uninstalling OneDrive won’t unsync any folders. Folders need to be unsycned before uninstalling.

This has not resolved the issue for me any other ideas?

I simply repaired it a second time after unsyncing one drive
