Daily thread to laugh about cannon rushes

These guys all belong in a circus. Everyone who allows this to continue belongs in a cage, in a circus, too.

I get so angry watching these cannon rushers stream, too. Part of it is therapeutic in knowing even the best players in the world have no chance of winning, either. On the other hand, I’ll be watching printf. He will have 1000 cannons going up at the same time. Just chaos everywhere. And, I swear to god, he will always be like “lol. Haha. I can’t believe this guy is attacking the wrong pylon. What is he thinking?”

These guys are sitting there sipping a latte, collecting all of these undeserved points, and they’re playing harshest critic ever, in regards to the other guy. The other guy is on the verge of killing himself in real life and you’re criticizing something you can’t stop yourself.

These guys man… nothing would make me happier than seeing them have to actually earn points for the first time in their life.

You’re doing god’s work, btw, in trying to educate people on how to better handle cannon rushes. We need to unite to put an end to this utter nonsense. It’s the most broken thing in the game and people just act like “oh, that’s cute. That strat is funny.” F off, you know. It’s so maddening.

PREACH; I’ve also played a bunch of 2v2 in my day…can’t tell you how many CR battles I’ve been in on Dusty Gorge…CR in 2v2 can be even worse than 1v1…you fend off the CR while your Gold league partner takes a nap and expands twice, only to then have a bunch of Reapers join the party…or you get 2P cannon rushing you…there is also the fact that your 12 scout of one of the two players will be delayed…

I’VE LOST FRIENDS OVER CANNON RUSHING IN 2 vs 2. People will be like “why did you leave?” And I’ll be like… we lost. He made a cannon in an unstoppable position.

Dude, noobs are incredulous that SC 2 is as stupid as it is. No one with a functioning brain, who hasn’t played thousands of games, can wrap their head around how freaking broken cannon rushes are.

So, it leads to arguments or w/e. You end up looking like some sore loser who is just mad that “he lost a unit, thus his perfect game is over.” It’s like man… who do I need to slap, to get some sense into this game? Everyone “in charge” has to be crazy.

LOL, yeah it definitely brings out the worst in me; I actually just recently quit 2v2 altogether and went back to 1v1 100% of the time because of cannon rushing, there are just some maps/scenarios that are completely out of your control in 2v2 re: cannon rushing (e.g., cannons + reapers or cannons + lings or cannons + cannons); very few people know how to defend CR properly, and most of my partners in 2v2 are lower league players, so I experience alot of cancer in 2v2. Like you play against two randoms, by the time you scout the seccond player and find out he’s toss and that he has a forge he is already putting up cannons in your base, you can’t just blindly open forge

I was new to 2 vs 2. I didn’t realize that it was even worse than 1 vs 1. Yeah, like the guy made a cannon on the low ground, and to reach the low ground, I would had to travel “100 miles.” Like, it wasn’t practical at all. Then, all he had to do was make a cannon on the high ground above it, and he was like already hitting my probes.

This is the kind of stuff you have to deal with and try to explain? It’s like… I don’t know what’s wrong with Blizzard. “But, they have a balance team. Surely they’re not all stupid.” I don’t know man… maybe they are…

lol Dusty Gorge has its own meta, and it revolves around CR…they cannon the natural which is right behind your main’s min line then take your assimilator (or drop a pylon) for high-ground vision (or send an overlord for high-ground vision); so you have to open forge assimilator (lol) and create a wall to block the probe from getting behind your min line; add to this that you can’t scout both players in time (because one is farther away by map placement/you have to check both) + bad partner or bad partner coordination + CR friendly map + they can coordinate against you…

This must be the balance team’s favorite map. I think you just explained why they force us to endure this. What do they know about 1 vs 1? They’re probably asking antisora for advice since he may have streamed before. I hear that’s the main qualification atm.

I almost feel bad now. I’d hate to see the balance team not be able to cannon rush in 2 vs 2 anymore. I don’t know what to think now. I’m just happy to finally have an idea of why we have to ignore the most OP strategy in 1 vs 1 at all costs.

Thank you, MGT88.

np, I also have big gripe with Phoenix in PvP but we’ll save that for another day

Yeah me and you both. I created the “rotti build” due to phoenixes. One day, maybe after my 1000th build named after someone else, I’ll get my own. The dream. Until then, I’ll just have to keep hearing about how all of these guys carry more weight.

The conspiracy to keep cannon rushing in this game till the world ends. Try playing phoenix vs phoenix on NA against the land of hackers without blowing your brains out. Should be handing out medals.

Phoenix v Phoenix is so stupid; zero micro, whoever has more wins; Phoenix also feel too strong v ground (I swear they beat Stalkers); they need an ATG damage nerf or Graviton Beam should cost more energy, something; it’s too easy to run across map kill a bunch of probes and regenerate enough lifts to still defend at home. Phoenix allow turtle play and sort of force the ground player to all-in (which is difficult vs Stargate) because the ground player will just get picked apart as the Phoenix count grows.

Like I said, my play is pretty much tailored around the fact that you’re going to lose to phoenixes if you don’t treat it like a cannon rush.

I don’t research warp gate in the early game. I only make 1 gateway. I rarely even make a robo before expanding, anymore.

I also completely wall off against adept openings, so I’m not having to waste money on this build and cancel, build and cancel migraine headache. And, he/she can’t delay my expansion. I just end up with more minerals and, more importantly, more gas to devote to air than the other guy.

The “Neuro philosophy” of everything is fair in the world, just work on executing better is as dumb as it is cute. Gotta get irked enough to try anything to deal with the reality of how over powered things are.

Fortunately, there is a way to deal with phoenixes (even if it’s just have more than the other guy). Nothing you can do versus cannons besides cross your fingers. But, if everyone were to open like I do in P vs P, then it would be back to square 1.

It is kinda amazing that every game isn’t phoenix vs phoenix, though. When a guy has phoenixes, what do you think? Dang… I need phoenixes, too. So… it’s like… may as well just make them first and make the other guy react/play catch up, cause they are that strong.

All that said, good luck winning phoenix games on NA against people who are blatantly hacking (a shake your head amount of people).

BTW, for daily laughing at cannon rushing: Twitch

Saw last night that Printf played a showmatch vs another cannon rusher (themuszero). Man, there are so many freaking people who only do cannon rushes on EU. I honestly think playing against hackers is better than playing vs these guys.

Cannon rushes. As a terran player its not the cannon rush that gets you. Its the lost mining time. And the follow up that protoss have. You either stop cannon rush and be 2 bases behind. Or you stop cannon rush and you have to fight tempest and or void ray army backed by shieled batteries.

Now this may seem harmless at 1st until you realize that by the time you start you 2nd base their 2nd is fully saturated and youll facing an 2 base all in backed by shiled batteries. Scout your natural prevent cannon rushes. That simple

I don’t think anyone has ever figured out how to consistently make cannon rushing work against Terran. I don’t even think a cannon rusher has managed to reach 55% for a season against Terran yet. Grimreaper is at 32% vs Terran on NA, for instance.

I even watched Parting lose to a low GM NA Terran when he tried to cannon rush. Either the cannon rush is very imbalanced against the other races or… they need to buff cannon rushing against Terran, lol.

As an observer, watching Terran fight against cannon rushing and the follow ups looks tough enough. Blows my mind to think it can be allowed to be so much stronger vs the other races, and we’re all just supposed to act stupid about it. “This is fine. Makes sense.”

Cannon rushers are such clowns. Can’t believe how much Blizzard bailed them out. These guys would be cannon rushing Terran, every game, even if their win rate was 10%… and they would be scratching their head for the next 100 years trying to figure out why it won’t work, rather than just learning how to play RTS.

Greamreaper is 6.2k mmr with it on EU
sorry but its broken and not that bad against terran, iff you open gas first you probably gonna lose, the tempest follow up with battery shield is retarded as well

I agree; Phoenix is OP in PvP. Personally, I hate using Phoenix (they are no fun to play with) so when I see Phoenix, even though I know I’m screwed and I need my own Phoenix to counter, I just do my best with Blink Stalkers…it’s a pretty sad state of affairs (isn’t Twilight supposed to counter Stargate???)

How many hits does it take a stalker to kill a phoenix? “PP. I think my units might be invincible. Never mind, this is awesome. Go go.”

I imagine killing a probe line, despite stalkers just chillin in the mineral line, might be up there with the dirty feeling of winning via a cannon rush.

I NEVER go blink stalker. I can only send my condolences. It’s dicey enough trying to counter phoenixes when you opened stargate. I always open stargate these days (oracle into a few void rays, unless facing phoenixes).

Anytime I’ve made stalkers and archons or w/e and tried to attack, either 10 immortals kills me or the 20 phoenix kill me. Every time, either part of the army could have killed me by itself. I’ll never get it.

I love to use Disruptors (I basically play this game to land Nova hits) and they cut through the whole upgrade/unit counter/etc. malarky; Disruptors simply wreck everything on the ground. I basically just adjust my Stalker/Ruptor count by gauging how many air units my opponent has. Voidray turtle into Skytoss or mass Phoenix are the only builds that give me any trouble in PvP; the thing is, Twilight is supposed to counter Stargate but it really doesn’t; Archons are too fat, DTs run into Cannons, and Blink Stalkers are too weak. I remember you telling me Storm counters Stargate though…guess I should try it.

Hmm, so I said that  I’ll own it. I type a lot of things…

I used to open phoenixes a lot. Been a while, though. I kinda felt like that might be the only instance where feedback is actually meaningful. One of those things that feels stronger to play against than it does when you use it type of deals.

Can use feedback to save a couple probes and then switch into archons and all-in. So hard to normally find the right time to attack, otherwise. You either attack too early and don’t have much of anything to do anything – or you wait until you’ve lost 50 probes and now the other guy just laughs at the army you can muster.

Even as someone who makes void rays, I don’t think storm is good. Like, it is and it isn’t kinda thing.

Like I know storm is good against void rays, so I’m not going to make “100 of them.” So, once people see I have like 3 void rays or something, the fear of god gets into them and they get storm. But, now you’re just using storm against a comp that couldn’t care less about storm.

The best counter to phoenixes that I’ve faced so far | Response, a GM player, just takes the fastest third base you will ever freaking see. He just uses the “Zerg meme.” The best counter to phoenixes is drones/hatcheries, you know?

He’s basically able to negate the probe losses by having insane worker production. Eventually, the phoenixes will be low on energy, and he will have a 3 base looking army to deal with.

There’s so many things you lose to, though, where you’re like “man… if I tried that… I’d never win.” So, you’re never quite sure who deserves more credit for the loss/win.

I have tried the mass expansion/probe production thing a few times, but in my experience a guy dedicated to growing his Phoenix count will have enough lifts to outpace my production (although it’s possible I’m just not playing it well); it also becomes a Phoenix playground when you have 3+ expansions because he can just fly between bases while you derp around trying to catch him. In my experience the only counter to mass Phoenix is a perfectly timed all-in that hits right after he blows his lifts on your min line and before his eco advantage kicks in, but again I’m an M3 pleb so this is just my perception.

That’s interesting. I gotta wonder how fast you took your third; I’d imagine that’s what would happen to me if I tried to, though. I have NEVER seen anyone try to take a third this fast. It was mind blowing.

The only “problem” was, he’s taking the third so fast, that he’s taking it before even really confirming what he’s up against. I was able to beat him in a rematch, because he’s just assuming I’m massing phoenixes.

I’m not even sure you should try to defend if going 3 nexus that fast, outside of for like a minute maybe. It definitely feels a lot more tricky or that you’re facing a hard counter when playing against that style.

I’m almost kinda glad to hear you hate playing against something beyond cannon rushing, though. Those disruptor, stalker guys man. I feel like I have to be so far ahead in a game to beat those guys. Feels like that comp counters everything. So cost efficient.

It’s definitely counterable, just kinda get irked by needing to get ahead/have a great early-mid game. I need the economy for all kinds of units and lots of them. Other guy is good no matter what it seems.
