Karax feels even slower than before…I’m convinced they don’t play co-op if they thought that removing his mastery to get units out faster would speed up the ealry game for him…
Have tested Karax multiple times yesterday and today with his different unit comps, he doesn’t feel any faster than before, quite the opposite, the unit tax simply slows him down too much, it needs to go.
Especially going air, whether carriers or phoenix, they are just so bad. Them being tougher doesn’t matter when they just tickle the enemy, especially now that all coop enemies end up with +3 armor upgrades.
The research rebates in no way makes up for it, and I noticed today that they didn’t lower the carrier drone research cost also, which seems weird, might be an oversight, it often doesn’t feel all that impactful, especially now Carriers have even more hp and no problem surviving, it’s way too expensive I think. I would suggest lowering it to 100/100
Overall he actually feels slower than before the update, when going units. So if their intention was to improve his ramp-up they failed.
The increased hp and shield mastery isn’t terrible on its own (not that great either, I would still prefer unit cooldown or something else more interesting), but if I had to choose between that and the unit cost mastery, I would choose to lower unit costs every time.
Shadow Cannon fires 8 projectiles. Each dealt 25 damage, and they increased it to 40. So instead of 200 it’s 320 now.
So now, only builds viable to Karax are:
- static defense + energizers
- sentinel, energizer, immortal/colossus/mirages
Carrier builds are dead now since the cost is too much. You’ve effectively nerfed player choice, which is the opposite of what these updates were about.
As others have said, the unit tax has got to go.
And the shield batteries still do not know they should heal each other.
I think you can strike Mirages off also, they have always had lacklustre dps making them pretty niche, and now it takes a third longer to mass them.
Both coop Phoenix variants have been in need of an offensive buff for a long time IMO.
Just a thought after trying Karax on many games:
Swann for instance had a GREAT buff with the gas removal from the armory. That improved his early game by A LOT.
Karax otoh… I have played many games and yes, his units are tougher but it’s just not ok.
I think he needs a tweak. Maybe again reworking this mastery into something like gas reduction on cost research or gas units cost.
Carriers are gone, but even if you wanna go mirages they are not worth either.
You need, barrack cyber core airport/robotics bay 200G each. And you WILL need a detector even if you just want barrack/airport units only.
I could make some “acceptable” army but only skipping solar forge’s upgrade which isn’t the optimal either.
I’m sorry I don’t like this change, it sucks to me. Tankier units but 30% more expensive and slower to ramp up Karax game.
Maybe give him 30% cheaper buildings…all buildings including Nexus/Pylons/Robo/Photon cannons, etc.
Definitely faster ramp up…doesn’t affect the lategame unless going tower Karax
It would be a significant buff to cannon pushing, while only a small one to unit production.
If cannons were made cheaper, I might not ever bother building a Karax combat unit aside from Energizers.
Maybe just noncombat buildings 30% cheaper then. That gives faster ramp up (through faster teching)
The main constraint is gas, 30% off that on a few buildings wouldn’t matter much overall, something much bigger in scope is needed than just making a few buildings cheaper. It would need to be something closer to the impact of removing unit tax, which is the one I favor, though there are other suggestions that are workable.
Normal gas cost and increased mineral cost would be fine. Would make the units more bulky while not slowing down high tech unit buildup much.
A 280 mineral Nexus/70 mineral pylon/105 mineral Gateway/Forge means faster gas because you expand faster.
That gives you shorter ramp up. (get to ~40 mid tech combat supply)
Cost of units should be balanced around their strength.
So:
10% ability cooldown reduction for each Solar Forge upgrade
Carrier repair drones: repair while moving at 25-30 hps
Fire Lance doesn’t slow attacks.
and 30% cheaper noncombat buildings (and the 50% hp) gives you
1-fast initial ramp up
2-more time to 200 supply because of unit tax
but
3-very useful units once you get to 200 (and you don’t lose them on the way)
I played Karax all weekend, I like him.
Blindly going mass carriers did not work before and doesn’t work now, so that hasn’t changed, don’t know why people bring that up.
Mass immortal has good DPS with the canon. SoA support can hold early game, help mid game. Carriers are viable in specific situations for fun.
I found two styles work well with him and depend on the ally:
- if ally is good and moves out onto the map right away (think dehaka type) than rushing SoA energy regen is key.
- If ally has alternative play style ( think kerrigan who stays at home for 10 min) than you need to forget SoA and go for army, any army you like, and if you choose carriers and take half an hour than your ally deserve it.
Now… we wait for 2 or 3 moar Months for another revamp, hopefully that is when new Co-op Commander is introduced hahahahah
I am hoping that the extra gas cost for the units will get removed in a future patch.
But I think the developers are waiting to gather play data before deciding if the patch increased or decreased the ramp up time.
At least using Zealots is viable now.
Ummmm somebody in Korean fan Forum said that amon’s Cyclones are as upgraded as Swann’s Cyclone. Is this true?
If they change stats it is true.
Amon’s BCs and Banshees (both infested and not) benefited from the buffs their respective units got as well. It’s safe to say that if it’s a unit Amon uses that gets the buff and not the commander themself, then Amon’s version will get it as well.
Amon’s Cyclones have the same Stats as Swann’s, but they don’t get the same upgrades. (so when Swann gets mag field accelerator it doesn’t give it to Amon… but if amon’s Cyclones get Mag field accelerator, they will get the buffed version)
