Do you mean worst written or most evil?

Worst written character.

Amon is the worst in terms of writing, and he’s kind of just a nebulous evil. He is also more evil than anyone else, but not for any good reason.

He’s the least expanded on but does that make him the worst written? Is lack of writing the same as flawed/poor writing?
He’s consistently evil static character where Kerrigan and Mengsk have far more flaws in their writing.
Mengsk is a lot like Amon in his role to just be Static bad guy that monologues at you.
Kerrigan is just a train wreck.
Do you think that would make them worse written than Amon or is Amon just as flawed?
From what I heard Mengsk was more interesting in SC1.

The expansion of his character is nearly literally “muahaha I am the evil and I want to kill everyone everyone forever”.

Source: LotV’s ending maps and epilogue.

He is a walking trope. “Weak, powerless, submit” is a quote from Amon and also a quote from every “lol, i am evil” character that exists.

He has no literary value and not only is he a nothing character, he’s a capstone “ancient evil” that is supposed to be big and meaningful and just… isn’t.

Flawed and terrible writing. The external lore expands on his history, but his motivation basically boils down to “create hybrid to destroy all life”.

That definitely wasn’t the case in SC1 and Brood War. Arcturus Mengsk is very much a dynamic person. He presents himself as an idealistic crusader and defender of humanity to get people on his side, but he is willing to get his hands dirty and mask it as “the greater good”. Mengsk does a very good job walking that tightrope throughout the SC1 campaign, and to be blunt he does a good enough job of it to keep most of the Terran population on his side until his death in HOTS. This is despite Raynor’s Raiders basically broadcasting recordings showing he directly orchestrated the attack on Tarsonis, which should have been a fatal blow to his rule.

Also, keep in mind what happens after Mengsk is finally killed in HOTS. Valerian basically inherits the Terran Dominion when his father dies. If Valerian wasn’t so reasonable compared to his father, the Dominion and Raynor’s Raiders would still be fighting.

He definitely was.

Just about every mission in the first Terran campaign from the moment Mengsk saves the Mar Saran colonists, to the point where he betrays Kerrigan involves Mengsk using his knowledge to gain allies, solidify control over existing allies, or convince his current allies to resort to tactics that they otherwise would not abide (such as the use of Psi Emitters on Antiga Prime and Tarsonis). That campaign ends with one of Mengsk’s propaganda videos boasting about how the Terran dominion he formed will safeguard all of humanity.
The two mistakes that Mengsk made during that campaign were betraying Kerrigan (which turned Raynor and many others against him), and speaking too openly about his ambitions in the following argument with Raynor.

Then there’s Brood War. Mengsk’s connections are useful enough that Raynor, Fenix, and Kerrigan save him from the UED, and help him retake Korhal, even though they would all probably rather kill him given the choice.

Amon. Complete lack of motivation or some kind of explanation.
Not sure, what is Kerrigan doing there? Her story ark is pretty good explained throw out both starcrafts.

why is only those three we have to pick from, i mean seriously theres far worse characters in the game than that. han and horner comes to mind, that lady toss that is taking prisoner by kerrigan and sits there, probably countless more i could point out, oh like NOVA, worst character in the game, and yet giving her own campain, why i dont know, I think the sc2 devs were smoking alot of funny things when they thought that one up. I personly would of loved to see a stetman campaing over the nova one.

Its hard to pick a worst since there is so many characters that could be considered poorly written or lackluster, but a few stand out to me:

  1. Amon

I don’t think there is much depth to Amon’s character. He is just like this big bad force of evil.

  1. Dehaka

Essence, essence, essence. That sums up his whole character. Too one dimensional in my opinion.

  1. Mira Horner. Just not really my cup of tea as a character. Hard to explain but I just fine her personality a bit cringe.

Because of the level of importance that these characters have and driving the narrative, also they were all primary antagonists.

You definitely didn’t count right.

You have 3 votes stating that Amon is the worst, but you applied those votes to Mengsk.

Count is right, distribution was wrong.

My vote goes to Amon if I have to pick from those 3.

ill vote for abathur

I feel like blizzard wrote those 3 the same way (referring to WOL kerrigan specifically). They’re all cartoonishly evil and just mock the player, full of intense arrogance and self-assurance only to realize they’re gonna lose at the very end. Mengsk could’ve been the most deep, could’ve been interesting to see how he’s changed since BW but they just made him a generic dictator in sc2.

Kerrigan had some of the most deserved reason to act like that. (WOL)
She actually took part in many maps as an unkillable antagonist. She also had plans and interactions with Both Raynor and Zeratul so it was clear she was working against something adding a bit more depth.
It was basically her only good story arc until her character was brutalized in hots and lotv.

What was it you don’t like about kerrigan in HOTS?

Well, if those are the only options, then I would rank them like this from worst written to least written:

  1. Amon (as the Big Bad). Had a whole lot of potential too, but fell flat. Underwhelming.
  2. Mengsk, I mean, what else could be added to his backstory beyond SC I and comics and lore material? But it could have been included to add new twists to Jim and Kerrigan’s journey. Hell, make him out as NOT a cut out baddie, and the real bad his son Junior.
  3. Kerrigan. I will go out and say this, I liked the Kerrigan/Raynor dynamic (its in the lore material), love is part of a story and journey, and thought her journey reinfesting to take down Mengsk and pay back for Raynor while struggling to keep her human side as the will over herself, not being that 100% crazed out infested Terran (we saw enough of it in WOL). Why repeat that? Whatever ending you chose (I go with she had Valerian make her a clone body as a vessel and lived up a hard earned life of happiness with Raynor) I thought it was pretty good and didn’t mind the love angles and all. It worked. Not everything is blasting and mindless Total War.

the main issue is they put her in a pretty villainous light but it doesn’t appear that the writers are aware of it. She goes and basically genocides a bunch of dominion soldiers and civilians for revenge, when they have nothing to do with mengks’ betrayal in sc1. She doesn’t even seem to care about freedom and what reynors raiders are fighting for, and her character has pretty simplistic motivations. There’s really not much to her, it’s all about killing mengsk and sacrificing anything and anyone to get there. She’s a cold character that seems indifferent to things that don’t directly benefit her.

It might not be that bad if the narrative acknowledged how bad her behavior is and she was punished somehow, but never happens. By the end raynor just gives in and is on her side for no apparent reason besides simping. It makes no sense why you would set up your apparently “redeemed chosen one” that’s supposed to save the universe like this.
