Am I allowed to use a VPN to play SC2?

I tried playing through the VPN around 2016-2017 and got banned. The technical support was kind enough to unban me but said not to play through it. I sort of stopped playing entirely except for a few times when I was in a country with a good connection. Now many years have passed an I would like to resume playing as my son is growing up and I want to introduce him to SC2. But in Asia here the internet is more like country-net and I can’t do it without a VPN. I have my own VPN that is based on standard OpenVPN source code. Am I allowed to use it with SC2 at this day and age? I would rather get a permission than ask for having the ban removed again.

I have been playing coop games with an openvpn server at amazon AWS for years and didn’t notice any bans or whatever. So yeah why shouldn’t you use it.

I went ahead and tried connecting through VPN using a European Digital Ocean server and another one of my servers in Europe. It seems the networking is broken in my version of Battle.net app. Parts of it just never load. Starcraft 2 starts and authenticates but no game content loads and whatever I click just freezes permanently. Starcraft 1 non-remastered works great though so I think I’ll stick to it.

I can recall technical support in one of threads encouraging playing with VPN, so I can’t see a reason why someone would be banned for it.
Maybe 5 years ago things were different? Who knowns.
