1080 GTX GPU Heat Issues

I’ve come back to SC2 after many years away. Have been sporadically playing COOP missions for the past couple months but in the past two weeks (I believe) have been seeing an odd issue with only SC2. When starting a COOP game, after loading in, the temperature of my GPU starts a radical incline up to 91C. The card protects itself and throttles what it’s doing while the GPU’s fan is at 100%. This is a water cooled Aorus 1080 GTX card which ought to crush anything SC2 has to offer.

To be very clear, this is a new issue.

I have turned down graphics, have set max frame rates at 144 and 60Hz which has not resolved this phenomena. I have gone through programs running in the background and checked to see if any are making any demands on the CPU (not sure how to check to see if they are for GPU). All drivers are up to date, etc.

I’ve got nothing for a solution at the moment.

SC2 has added its war chest 6 and I assume there was an update that came with it, but don’t know if I can roll it back to see if this has any relation to it.

Has anybody else had this as a new issue? Have suggestions on what to look at?

EDIT: Some additional information, I increased the curve on the response to the cooling system, but to no avail, it seems deadset on reaching these temperatures. Oddly, while the game is still playing, after a duration, which I will time to see if it is consistent, GPU temp drops straight down like a rock. The match is still running, no tangible reason… GPU temp will drop from 90 to 40 and remain there.

i had trouble running the game on that kind of gpu myself. i upgraded to 1080 ti and that worked better but, still not perfect so, i upgraded to 2080 ti and had no issues. starcraft 2 is extremely gpu heavy.
