Why Genji was intentionally made overpowered

The devs know this game is dying so they buffed Genji, on e of the most iconic OW characters into being absurdly OP to get people to come back for a quick buck. This is how video games are balanced now. They are intentionally made broken in order to cash in on the flavor of the month players. Sorry, but expect more “balancing” like this in the future

It was for money, power, respect; the keys to life.

They want to bring Dive back so badly they’re not even trying to hide it at this point.

Too bad that double shield is still the best tank comp in the game, now we just have broken Genji added to it :upside_down_face:

Yes. They actively said this.

No more overall balance. Only meta targeting

They did it for the “oooooh” “aaaaahhhhhhhh” from OWL

After watching OWL highlight reel, I gotta admit it is exciting and high octane to watch Genji poping off, way better than any other sluggish fest in a long while.

Game is exciting to watch and also exciting to play, I don’t know why you guys don’t prefer this over watching/playing Mei, Reaper, Sombra or Goats ect.

Because I and the vast majority of other players don’t give a rat’s butt about OWL. Sorry but designing a game around something that LITERALLY LEAS THAN ONE PERCENT of the players participate in is INSANE

They already got your money, now it’s their new source of money =p

In my iconic thread, Genji main privilege is real, I stated that the hero is heavily favored because nANobLAdE pOGgErS for the sake of garnering viewers for OWL. That’s more realistic, and is probably the truth.

It s hard to believe you are the “vast majority”… I m of the belief that “vast majority” are players who are looking for exciting gameplay, not the slugfest and boring heroes.

Not sure how they think a dva could ever match up to a rein or sigma in her current state. They need to buff the weak tanks rather than Add more dps power creep

Nope, vast majority want balanced heroes so the game is fun to play instead of extremely frustrating, which is what genji is currently doing.

Because There’s no variety - Genji highlights until the end of time. There’s not enough play along being highlighted by more heroes. With Genji being buffed like he is that’s all the viewing experience is gonna come down to. Don’t know abo you but when I think of high level OWL play I don’t want to think of “oh just wait until Genji teamwipes” for the millionth time.

It’s weird how Brig was introduced to the game to counter dive and now after all of this time we’re coming back to dive.

I m not gonna defend Genji’s power level. I’m just saying if there is one broken hero in this game, I would prefer it’s Genji over things like Mercy, Brig, Mei, Moira, Doom ect. At least he is enjoyable.

The vast majority of players are not at a rank where anything resembling the pro meta dominates their games, and playing against Genji instead of Mei is not any more fun for most people. (There is a vocal contingent of Mei-haters, of course, but there is also a vocal contingent of Genji-haters.)

You spelled Tracer/Mercy wrong.

There is a big difference. Everyone could play Mei when she was strong, even the no aim low mechanic players. Genji on the other hand, if you are not already decent with him you don’t get much values even with all his recent buffs

How? With his spread reduction + fire rate buff, the devs have pretty much incentivised playing him as a fan bot. I think they significantly lowered his skill requirements for adequate play.

  • Less counter play with deflect cancel.
  • Better survivability with longer deflect.
  • Much easier to land hits reliably with his right click (rip literally every tank)
  • Nanoblade charges infinitely faster, especially with damage beam from mercy.

I don’t deny that he takes skill to play well at high rank, but they’ve made just about every part of his kit easier to use, and more forgiving. It just means decent genji’s will be nigh unstoppable, and average genji’s will climb much faster than before the buffs.

I just hate that they pretty much invalidated reaper as a character with these right click changes. I don’t think anyone can argue against him needing help/ a rework. And now there’s almost no reason to choose reaper over genji at most ranks.

I’m on the fence about his buffs themselves, but im incredibly freaking sick of him having blade in every God damn fight. It unfair and unbalanced.

Yes. This is my take too. If you overpower something, you’re also making people play more as they would be outdated from the game mechanics. It’s an illusion of the game being kept updated, when in reality the changes are just minor code things: cd value, cancellable toggle, lesser radius and higher damage output.
