What do you think is the core problem in OW right now?

I mean, where do we begin?

  1. Tank balence (sucks)
  2. Support balence (sucks)
  3. DPS balence (most Hitscan heroes are crazy, most Projectile heroes suck)
  4. “Pressing Q to Win” is still way too common and is heavily encouraged within the core game design.
  5. Matchmaking is poor
  6. Smurfs and the Boosted are making match quality poor

Did I miss anything?

EDIT 1:

Oh, yeah, can’t forget that. The continued lack of content, recycled game modes, etc.

EDIT 2:

Oh, forgot this one as well. Got to love that dev silence…

The core problem?

The devs having no clear idea on how they want the game to be played. So they just nerf metas when they arise, and so punish the playerbase for picking up heroes and playing with them. Because even if a hero is balanced but is played a lot, that hero gets nerfed. Which is dumb and then instead of “powercreep” you get “nerfcreep” or something.

This is the core problem currently with tanks and supports in particular. They were pretty powerful and got an overall reduction in effectiveness. But they kept DPS as is it was for the most part. This led to only a few viable tanks and supports to deal with that, which then ended up in those tank/supports getting nerfed. Rinse and repeat and you get the sad state of those roles right now.

  • Lack of new Gameplay content (Skins and gimmicky arcade/workshop modes don’t count)
  • Smurfs: Nothing being done about them
  • Top down/Esports balancing that is turning this game into another generic FPS game

Flex Q and priority pass

they nerfed shields. wht they shouldve done if they wanna keep slaming the nerf train is nerf damage and healing. that way tank doesnt feel miserable to play.
Literally if your team has a zen with any peeler support and enemy doesnt GGand vice versa. And if both teams have zens? the tanks that hide the best are the ones that won. SO MUCH FUN.

The core problem? A community of crybabies.

For my part, I am having fun  Nothing really to complain about.

Speaking only for myself, the audio bugs.

Overwatch was praised for it’s sophisticated game audio and the devs made a whole fuss about playing by sound (just search youtube for ‘overwatch play by sound’, there’s an hour long lecture about it), but today the game audio has degraded to the point I basically don’t play the game unless there’s a challenge skin, PvE events, new hero or a map.

Also less crappy console menus would be nice.

Sorry if this is dumb… low TTK means things die faster, right?

Something else no one else seems to have a major issue with: The constant demand to mirror match, mirror matching has caused the balance to drop because why bother playing the game as intended when you can so call “out-skill” the enemy team with the same heroes, its why METAs feel stale after a week and why characters keep getting nerfed. That’s my take… highly likely a dumb take but what ever.

Blizzards balancing team.

  • Snipers able to instant delete you from across the map and making you unable to play for 20 seconds should not exist in an ability based team shooter.
I’m perfectly fine with getting insta killed in call of duty or any similar FPS. i’m not fine with getting insta killed by widowmaker or hanzo and having to wait 10 seconds to respawn and walk 10 seconds to get back into the fight.
  • There’s too many broken and “i win” abilities to play against. Flashbang, Hook, all of doomfist, storm arrow, etc…
  • The hitboxes are stupidly big, Ball can bump you without touching you at all, like his hitbox is 2 meters wider that his body… Same for abilities like Swift strike…

Damage

The game has an insanely high damage output at the moment. DPS and Supports just output too much damage too easily that tanks just can’t survive. You peek, your shield is gone and you’re dead in under a second from spam.

The problem occurred when they nerfed healing in supports but didn’t give them anything in return, so healing became less important and aiding in damage took over (damage boost, discord and just support damage output). Most DPS don’t need help with damage, pretty much all of them output so much damage after years of the healing/damage creep battles that have been going on. Straight up nerfing discord and damage boost won’t do anything as most dps breakpoints aren’t changed with it. Nerfing support damage output will just leave supports as bad dps heroes who can do a bit of healing.

IMO the biggest mistake the dev team made was lower support healing while not giving them any kind of meaningful active utility to make up for it. All support utility is pretty passive or it’s throw and leave utility (nade, immortality field, discord). Which means supports can throw out their utility and continue to do damage at the same time. It’s also really boring to use.

They need to put more/new active utility into the hands of supports to help their team so they don’t have to be as reliant on their raw healing/damage output. At the same time they have to lower the damage output across the board so healing isn’t important, allowing them to continue to lower healing output if it’s replaced with utility.

That way tanks can survive the incoming damage without the need for excessive healing to counterbalance it.

Hog/Ball shouldn’t be a viable tank comp, let alone one of the most played in GM right now.

It’s just such a frustrating and selfish tank comp to play with.

That’s pretty much it.

Same as always since the game was released - low investment 1 shots.

1 shots = other damage needs to be high to keep up.
High damage = tanks are either need to be super powerful or they’re useless.
High damage = high healing so everything doesnt insta-die.

It got leaked that it got delayed really far back

meta wise or in ranked?

More like not enough of such heroes, preventing from carrying game, that was rigged by matchmaking against you.

awful balance changes, 0 updates and new content

Facts.

We need more heroes and more options to so we don’t keep having these year long metas
