Welcome to Microtransactionwatch!

yeah, though he was talking about DOOMfist, not DOOM (the game franchise)

If they do that we could just… not buy the stuff? They can ask for as much money as they want but they can’t make me open my wallet.

Given their gambling / pyramid scheme of epic proportions in Diablo Immortal; yes. Want to play the newest hero? Cough up the money. Want to see the newest map? Cough up some money. Want to see 1 episode of the PvE? You guessed it, cough up some money.

Blizzard is a joke company now. Hopefully Microsoft can salvage some off it.

Which is ultimately what will happen.

There are incredibly high quality Battle Passes that exist in other franchises. Sure the games may not be OW, but their devs have at least proven they are committed to content and balance.

OW’s devs have not proven this.

Choosing not to buy whatever new paywalls will exist (and trust me, they’ll 100% be there) will likely deprive the player of any meaningful content. In other words you can likely still earn some content through grinding, but the best and most consistent content will be reserved for those willing to pay.

It’s a far cry from the current model.

Overwatch and Blizzard do not have a funding issue. It’s not a lack of money as to why so many features going into the sequel are going to move behind a paywall. I think that’s incredibly important for the community to remember as they watch the microtransactions explode in this game. Don’t lie to yourself about it.

Oh yes that makes it a great thing for Blizzard to do for us as gamers!

“other companies are just as trash as Blizzard” is such a weak argument to defend this godawful monetization.

With clothes like that, it would be fashion show. And before you know it, we are in MMO territory, where common sense and “fitting the character” are gone.

I mean it is kinda all you do. No disrespect but you post pretty actively about the negatives.

There are virtually no positives in OW1.

The few remaining positives are dissolving with the sequel.

OW2 is the nail in the coffin of this franchise. The sooner the playerbase realizes this, the sooner they can drop this sadistic cesspool of a game and move on with life.

You’re right. You know what they should do? Another 3 years of no updates!

Cool

I enjoy it a lot and still have a lot of fun on OW1 too so. That sucks I’m sorry to hear you’re in that situation.

Have fun

What other game features Mercy as a playable character? Yeah, that’s what I thought :sunglasses:

Man it’s almost like if they managed their capital correctly and cared about their consumers they could release games that didn’t rely so heavily on monetization gimmicks that are illegal in countries like the Netherlands and Belgium.

You’re excusing one garbage business practice with another.

You’re just complaining to complain.

Businesses need to make money. As long as people are willing to pay, they will continue to make as much money as they can. You don’t like it? Sorry. That’s just how business works.

Lifting the arbitrary character style restrictions opens up more sales opportunities—easy money for Blizzard. Look at all the people who only care about competitive balance over the cosmetic looks of their characters. They are not going to care about any particular skin being used by any other player not fitting in with the look of the game. For everyone else who does care, they can just find the skins they find most agreeable and equip those. They will usually be ignoring the skins equipped on the other players. This is because most people only care about their own looks and how they present themselves to others, which is literally the driving force behind selling cosmetics in this game, other games, and in real life.

For those who think seeing any instance of a skin they don’t agree with appearing on the field during a match would be a game-breaking deal? Well, Blizzard loses only handfuls of players over their character reworks all the time, and they appear to be fine knowing they will lose a few players over the 6v6 → 5v5 switchover, so what if they lose a few more that aren’t onboard with a newer, more open-ended cosmetic direction? They will likely gain more new players to fill the void that is left behind.

I read that Diablo immortal costs $110,000 to fully gear up. DLC is 20 years old. As long as OW2 doesn’t become a p2w game it won’t change from ow1. It’s going to be the exact same game tbh

I am aware of that and made enough off of Blizzard’s success to put me through years of college back in the day. I am equally able to join most of the rest of the gaming community (lmao I know) in calling out Blizzard’s tremendously terrible monetization model. Most people are rightfully calling it trash, hence the 0.6 score it has on metacritic. I don’t care why they “need” to do it.

Between the sexual assaults, lawsuit, garbage games like Warcraft Refunded and now this monetization model - it’s kinda crazy how hated Blizzard is now isn’t it?

Only by the few “anti fan bois” that post repeatedly on the forums here lol.

I’m pretty sure blizzard is still one of the largest gaming companies out there. So, I don’t know. Maybe everyone hates them, but plays their games anyways? it seems like you do. lol.

How did you make money off of blizzards success in college?

Most people? I checked out of curiosity, that was rated by 1700 people. lol. It’s had over 1 million people download it. Not exactly “most people.”

And at least on the android play store, it has 3.6 out of 5 stars with 409k ratings. Not exactly a home run, but certainly not a 0.6, lol. And quite a few reviews for only being out a few days. I’d say having almost 4/5 stars, means players are liking it.

I love how players are trapped in this mindset that OW is going to remain the same in terms of monetization.

The game is 6 YEARS OLD.

Acti-Blizz has released other titles since OW’s inception, and all of them have increasingly upped the monetization required. It’s indicative of what we will see with OW2. Folks not paying attention to the present and past to build a realistic conception of what the future holds is a genuine problem in all society, the Blizz community being no exception.

OW is a dinosaur in terms of modern gaming. In many ways. Most importantly in the realm of monetization. It’s actually incredibly user friendly and affordable if you’re not a dumb@ss who buys lootboxes and OWL skins.

But the little content players have been provided over the past 3 years is stuff that 80-90% of other live service titles- arguably since 2018- would require payments for.

The way forward is clear- greater monetization and monetizing previously free features.

Anyone who thinks Microsoft will prevent this clearly doesn’t know a damn thing. Queue Halo Infinite. $4 of IRL money for a gotdamn armor shader…

That’s all anyone needs to know.

Who cares? You (op) and everyone here would still bow and buy.
Why complain?

You think I’d actively pay for an OW Battle Pass?

Hell to the no.

I think a Battle Pass further alienates those of us left who are looking for any reason we can find to leave this franchise in the grave.

And who’s to say folks aren’t already invested in other games and their Battle Passes?

I am submerging myself pretty hard into Destiny 2 these days. I have yet to buy a Battle Pass, but if I was forced to pick between OW or Destiny for buying a Battle Pass, the choice is beyond obvious-

The title that constantly receives content and always has is where my money is going. I’m not questioning if the devs at Bungie are going to take a three year hiatus from introducing content and balances to the game. OW though? Pay to play that sadistic cesspool with an insanely toxic player base and AFK Devs?

You have to be out of your damn mind.
