Welcome to Microtransactionwatch!

Either that or inventing a new thing to doom post.

Like, this IS a possibility, but the PvE section of OW2 is online CO-OP, so there is literally no reason to even force a DI monetization there since everything will be grindable.

Not only that, the limited PvE chapters have been around since the days of Starcraft 2 so this is definitely nothing new.

Dang, talking about Starcraft 2 feels like such a far away time.

Not a problem if they do this I will just uninstall and call it a day.just saw what they did to Diablo immortal and getting my self ready!

Iā€™m just a hopeful person who wants their favourite (only real) pvp game that they have so many memories with friends and such to be saved, tbh. Thatā€™s why.

Youā€™re right, the past suggests there is little hope!

Yep, I have barely played the game in time (only really came back a little bit for OW2 but as a support main, that became stale fast too) and if there were at least meaningful events, then I might at least show up for themā€¦but remix I agree is totally lazy.

Battle pass = continued revenue, even past the point at which sales drop drastically = less reason to jump ship to make an unnecessary sequel that could either have just been a big update on the side or a separate game in and of itself, rather than killing the pvp game entirely, especially seeing as this game is entirely pvp at its core.

I worry sometimes Overwatch will go down the Paladins routeā€¦

Why did you make a thread complaining about speculations?

Like what? Cosmetics? I donā€™t care.

Iā€™m just glad they might finally start making money again and continuously upgrade the game.

Did you learn this in first grade math? lol. I mean, wtf. lol.

Yes, just like every video game right now. Also, where are you getting SUPER PREDATORY!!#@$!@

Lol, itā€™s likely they will just have a battle pass, and maybe, MAYBE, a few extra things.

Right? Itā€™s likeā€¦if you donā€™t like it, then donā€™t pay. The game is LITERALLY free for anyone that owns overwatch. What can you possibly be complaining about.

Well, apparently, since blizzard made a mobile game that uses the same transaction model that every mobile game uses, they are going to start using that model for all their games!! (sarcasm)

ā€¦we havenā€™t gotten anything in about 3 years. Do you want to know why? Because they werenā€™t making any money. People donā€™t work for free.

Iā€™m sure most people donā€™t mind spending a few dollars for a battle pass on a game that they enjoy. Itā€™s not like itā€™s some year long commitment, where if the game fails you just wasted money.

And other franchises are doing it better? Not only do you have no idea how overwatch will be doing it, who cares what other battle passes are like? I donā€™t play those games because, guess what, those games are not fun.

I will welcome it. I am a fan of battle passes in other games (when done right) so there is that. Of cause they will sell DLCs. PvP will be monetized with a skin shop/ BP and the PvE part with DLCs.

Thats nothing new and nothing outrageous. OW players are spoiled.

Canā€™t wait.

I hope they let us buy packs that let us change the colors of our abilities. Sort of like how the OWL changes them to match the teams colors. Not red obviously coz enemies but still it would be nice.

I wouldnā€™t hate a social hub or more emotes that use instruments. A place were a band of Mercys could be playing.

Ooh and stickers to put on our guns.

My wallet is ready.

Donā€™t threaten me with a good time :+1:

??? While I agree they may do a lot of this other stuff, I am pretty certain they are never going to sell Heroes and, especially, Maps (because that would be hell to implement in the backend).

thats a bold assumption to make especially with such miniscule evidence

Stop overexagerating everything. OW2 PvE will pay for the content in PvP. And any new purchases of OW will pay for the PvP as well (because of the fact of anyone with OW1 will get the OW2 PvP ugrade for free)

Ok but itā€™s not like Overwatch is the first to do this. Most games these days you have to pay for cosmetics. If youā€™re that bothered about how your character or gun looks then you have to pay the price, itā€™s simple. A single skin in Valorant can cost up to something like Ā£40 and no one is complaining about that?

However, if they put heroes and maps behind a paywall their game will simply fail.

and for 3 we didā€¦so thatā€™s not saying muchā€¦.

you also make it sound like they donā€™t get anything from the system they do haveā€¦.I donā€™t have the numbers on me but Iā€™ve seen plenty of people post how much money they make from lootboxesā€¦.itā€™s not chump changeā€¦people STILL buy them believe it or notā€¦ā€dead gameā€ and people are STILL buying lootboxes for something as silly as these remix recolors

The ONLY reason the change is happening is because it makes MORE moneyā€¦ā€¦itā€™s not so they can return to content creationā€¦.itā€™s not going to mean MORE content

you dont have the numbers on you because theyā€™ve literally never released them. And anyone that says they DO have the numbers, is lying. lol.

Itā€™s impossible for it not to mean more content, when weā€™ve had literally 0 content for three years. Weā€™ve already had more content with just the beta.

It doesnā€™t take more than a quick search to find info on itā€¦61% of Activision Blizzardā€™s 2021 revenue was earned via microtransactions

Again it will make MOREā€¦.much much MORE with different systemsā€¦.nobody is denying thatā€¦what I find funny is the part where people think itā€™s going to mean more content relative to what we were getting beforeā€¦.we are just going to go right back to occasional new heroes/maps (in fact Iā€™m expecting the rate to be lower compared to before cause now you got pve stuff for each hero and map)ā€¦.and the same amount of cosmetics that up until these past few months (the OW2 crunch) weā€™ve always been receiving (despite ā€œno moneyā€)

The whole idea that this is for OUR benefit is hilariousā€¦.but thatā€™s just itā€¦people buy that sort of nonsenseā€¦itā€™s why it works

If you want a live-service game model you gotta pay for it. Welcome to todayā€™s world. That being said in return OW 2 simply needs to go free-to-play past the one-time charge for the PVE portal.

OW will never be pay-to-win however, that you can rest-assured.

Iā€™d be careful of comparing the old Blizzard box-release model to what itā€™s transforming to over time especially under Microsoft whoā€™s influence is starting to be felt. They realize and in fact bank on Blizzard games moving to live-service models. The problem is the culture as evident with people like ā€œBadmanā€ are still locked into a box-release mentality. I believe within two years there will be a serious house-cleaning at what remains of Blizzard under MS oversight.

That website is from a company that was shut down. They also made 5 other websites that look EXACTLY like that one, under different names. Obviously not a legitimate source. Donā€™t just believe everything you read.

What we were getting before is literally NOTHING. Yes, it started out strong, when they had people BUYING the game, and on top of it lootbox purchases. Both of those things died out though, obviously.

Will they develop content at a faster pace than before? I donā€™t know. I suppose it depends on the system they implement. They could do something like a new skin every week for battle pass users. Or 4 new skins. Who knows. The fact is though, if they are making more money, they will have more incentive to make more content.

cā€™mon. this is ABK. they wonā€™t let you buy what you want, you need to gamble for it. that way, you spend more on lootboxes! one time purchases are sooooo 2014. welcome to the future babey!!!

Wellā€¦ theyā€™re both about to be owned by Microsoft.
So thereā€™s that.
