The future is inevitable. Battle Passes, an incomplete PVE campaign followed by a slew of DLCs, maps and heroes behind paywalls, all the way down to hero skins and profile borders, I fully expect OW2 to input paywalls at every corner.
Buckle up because gameplay facets that have been free for years will soon have a monetary barrier.
Carrot-on-a-stick grinding gameplay to keep you glued to the game and designed with a constant stream of microtransactions for unlocking the fun rewards you really want. Just the sort of business model we’ve all been dying to pay out to.
well if they have a beach swim volleyball edition i may fork over some money since im shameless but i doubt that will happen. Overwatch Xtreme Beach Volleyball on some island with casino machines
The simple solution is to not buy anything. If the business model fails, then it will be abandoned in favor of something that works.
I dunno about the rest of you, but I can safely say that I have more than enough Cosmetics and therefore really don’t have much reason to go buying into Battle Passes.
At most I’ll save up on whatever in-game currency can be used to buy into Battle Passes like I did in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.
An Overwatch Xtreme Beach Volleyball direction would mean the devs would finally be acknowledging and producing the kind of cosmetics their players really want by offering Venus swimsuits. No need to keep begging for Baywatch Mercy!
What’s to stop the F2P mobile microtransaction model from slipping into Diablo 4 though? Especially once Blizzard realizes the existence of gullible rich players who willing to fork out large sums of money? And then see that a player community will form around said behavior and make memes of it, further reinforcing more players to overspend and cementing the future production these sorts of low-effort cash grab games?
I get that I shouldn’t tell others how to spend their money ( and vice versa ) but these shady business practices will only continue. Demanding more and more money for less and less content.
Things like $10 skins make me sick. I still play TF2. I can go online and download whatever custom skins n s*** I want without any payment or whatever.
worse yet…its often what people view as “content”…
people are going to come singing the praises of the devs for finally giving us content…“look at all these rewards i can get for playing the game now!!!” (even though itll be the same exact things we were getting before - also for playing the game)
