Oh look, the doomers have invented something new to complain about.
Oh look, another player high on copium dropping in on a thread that tilts them.
Imagine having nothing better to do with your time than inventing scenarios that make your mad, and then posting angry forum threads about them.
Kinda cringe.
Imagine having nothing better to do than go disagree with and whine about other peopleās posts.
You tell me who is wasting their time and words.
That would be better than having a dead game without new content for years
i mean, you did make a thread assuming the only dev team at blizzard hq who is only know for bad game management would totally take a mobile games monetization scheme and both sony and microsoft would be a-okay with that
especially microsoft who is acquiring them
been hearing the horror stories around diablo immortal and this is the same company so yea that is pretty scary. hopefully they dont go overboard with this game tooā¦
saw some videos saying you need $110,000 to max your character in diablo immortal. or its possible to spend that much money lolā¦
Battle pass would be fine (the game needs long term income to incentivise more actual content rather than the tragedy that was OW1) so long as it was purely cosmetic (look at lootboxes, for example) but idk I donāt see much more happening behind the scenes. Time will tell, but Iām hopeful.
You should see the Genshin Impact/FGO community.
Although I think Eve Online is the one where the real money spenders are. That game is insane from the horror stories I hear.
But why? Time has told us we have seen virtually zero meaningful content for half of this gameās lifespan. Some skins here, an event there, but nothing any player would consider meaningful. No maps, heroes, or mind bending balances.
And itās been that way 3 years.
For a recent culprit, Remix Event is one of the laziest, most half baked concepts this dev team has ever pulled.
So tell me why you have hope that a Battle Pass will improve the quality of this game when theyāre regurgitating skins (and only skins) now?
Because money.
Seriously, battlepasses allows des to fund the game continuously so long they pump content thatās relatively desirable (Ranging from skins, PVE, modes, maps.) and keep it longer. I donāt like it but thatās how games need to make money to fund more content.
Team 4, so far, could at least see the writing on the walls that thereās only so much they can push and prob knows theyāre in hot water. So they push for content that prob wonāt be excessive like DI (And letās be honest, thatās prob what will happen if OW2 goes F2P, you get so much microtransation that it aināt even funny.).
Current remix is lazy because everyone is on OW2 PVP development right now. So dumping out remix content is lazy but it keeps the players something to do (I mean, we couldāve gotten nothing.) while we wait. Itās not optimal but OW2 is the thing thatās being focused on, and is needed to be perfect from the moment of release.
Lastly, and hopefully, in the next 2-3 years, Kotick leaves and the game falls under Microsoft where things will at least, change for the better (Cause the former could still be demanding weird projects to be made, something Team 4 pointed out that does and prob still happens.).
the sad thing is i am willing to spend $$$ on overwatch when it comes down to it. i would never spend money on any other game really since no interest in them although i have spent money on the chun li skin in fortnite lol
i just hope the monetary system overwatch will implement isnt crazy harsh
Just because you saw Diablo Immortal, a free-to-play mobile game, doesnāt mean OW2 is gonna have all of that too.
Can we at least stop throwing that around until they actually confirm itās even a thing? It was in one screenshot (most likely photoshoped).
Now, that is the actual thing theyāre gonna monetize - bonus story chapters. The campaign might not be āincompleteā, but itās either gonna end with bad guys running away or the team being like āadventure never endsā and thereās red alarm pings on the screen as they fly off.
They were thinking about that before OW1 came out, but had to promise that wonāt be the case. Now you canāt go back on it without most of the smalle playerbase thatās still here leaving. Not to mention, they still want to push OW as an e-sport, so you kinda need the whole roster to be free.
You already got skins you pay for.
Well, you shouldnāt. OW already has a not-so-good reputation and stuff like this would kinda kill it. Itās much better for a company to start a whole new title and build it around paywalls, like Diablo Immortal.
They marketed a mobile game to a pc audience then complained when it didnāt take. That should tell you more than enough about how in touch they are with players.
ā¦because the 3 years of no content was so much betterā¦
I have yet to see troublesome microtransaction model in any of Blizzard games yet except Hearthstone (and maybe HotS before they went FtP). I liked Hearthstone initially, but constantly being asked to pay for their newest expansion left a bad taste in my mouth. The icing on the cake was when I realized itās going to take way too long to collect all the cards without paying a dime on card packs. I had already paid ~$60 for the past 3 expansions, so itās not like I didnāt pay for anything, I just wasnāt willing to shell out cash on card packs.
Itās a catch-22 because I know microtransaction models are required to keep the game alive. But lack of cards were hindering from my ability to fully experience the game. You lose a lot of the strategy portion of the card game when you donāt have the cards necessary to strategize with it. So I ended up losing interest in hearthstone because the strategy card game didnāt feel strategic for me due to me lacking cards.
Is there any other popular live service game that does not have this monetization scheme? At least weāre not like Paladins yet.

Have you heard the tragic tales of Gacha game players?
Is this in response to Diablo Immortal?
