We should ban the Moira Popcorn pic

I didn’t say “cause I don’t like it” nor anything related.

Is what I said. Mainly because there’s hardly ever, if at all, a time where the meme is used for anything more than trolling or laughs.

That is the whole tone of your statement ban it because you don’t like the way it’s used. Free speech is free speech whether you agree with it or not.

I don’t see how this is free speech?

This is more false interpretation than anything.

Have you ever heard the phrase “a pictures worth a thousand words” or are you too young and entilted?

I’m going to have to argue that “Free Speech” on a official forum isn’t really an argument for anything…

however the fact that it violates NO TOS or Forum Guidelines should be enough.

If you’re just posting it on every thread you go into regardless of context or appropriateness then maybe the poster should be looked at, but in and of itself the moira popcorn thing is no more or less harmful than a “Uh… wow. In b4 lock” comment.

Call it what ever you want I was merely pointing out to OP that people can use what ever language or imagery they want and we shouldn’t go around ban things we don’t agree with.

no argument there personally. I’m pro expression and discussion. But I’m wary of people throwing around “Free Speech” when they are implying “freedom from consequences”.

In b4 lock is explicitly banned by the code of conduct. That is the basis for the OP’s argument. That it meets the criteria for spam.

Spamming or Trolling
This category includes:

Excessively communicating the same phrase, similar phrases, or pure gibberish
Creating threads for the sole purpose of causing unrest on the forums
Causing disturbances in forum threads, such as picking fights, making off topic posts that ruin the thread, insulting other posters
> Making non-constructive posts
Abusing the Reported Post feature by sending false alarms or nonsensical messages
> Numbering a thread, IBTL, TLDR, or any other fad statements

Yeah OP makes a good arguement. I never noticed it before, but the Moira popcorn really does meet all those criteria, its odd that its ok to use.

I personally think that Popcorn Moira adds a lot to conversations. It shows that someone is watching a thread and reading responses.

it’s NOT IB4L though. It’s just comparably non-harmful.
Many times people will post it in a thread as a comment on the fact that the thread is either shaping up to be or currently is something of hot debate.
While not explicitly useful or contributory it’s not spam.

I would argue that the only thing it even closely comes to being defined as would be a “Fad” statement. I don’t see it that much though. Maybe because I stay out of the repeat threads where it’d probably get posted. Usually you’ll see it if someone brings up something KNOWN to result in long and locked topics.

In the end though banning one particular meme out of all of them would be unbalanced. If you don’t wish for posts of a singular picture , don’t allow it to be done and especially don’t officially sticky a thread that advertises all of the popular forum emotes.

It doesn’t convene an intent to assist the conversation or inform posters that they are reading posts productively, the image itself tries its best to highlight how the impeding conversation thus far or in the future will be entertaining to watch people attack each other. Its entire purpose is to take enjoyment of the vitriol of others. That’s not a good message. Its a really bad one.

I still view someone only posting the picture as someone who can not contribute to the subject.

I don’t want it to be banned either, tbh.

I just view it similar as IBTL in it’s non-constructive nature and usage. And since IBTL is both not that harmful and explicitly considered spam, I think it probably technically is as well.

But mods definitely don’t enforce that rule unless it’s being done in an extreme way, they handle it case by case. And I think the same should be done for the Moira emote.

I agree with you. It would be ridiculous to ban an emote from a sticky thread of emotes.

It just kinda funny to me that I saw your post with “ITBL,” cited in defense of it because of ITBL is used as an explicit example of spam in the COC.
