This Isn't Going To Be A New Thing Is It?

If there was more of a focus on giving streamers with less audience attention, I’d probably be more interested. But seeing all those big names that already have a big following, it feels pointless and like nothing I’d want to support.

Just like yours? Twentychars

you mean as anticipated as “do you guys not have phones?” for revealing a mobile game at a big gamign convention people spend hundreds of $ on (ticket/travel/accommodation/food)?

Also it was your Forums who were “don’t release Mercy 2.0 she is brokenly OP” yet were ignored and led to a yr of issues and mercy users beign trashed on. Till date you have ppl report others just mentioning buffs to her.

Dev team not listening did more damage than the original issue.

If you guys dont seem to care for forums…WHY HAVE THEM?

thats basically sayign “we’ll leave u here, but we dont care about what any of you have to say so have fun?”

also I just checked /r/Overwatch/ and multiple posts and replies mirroring the forum consensus.

I think this is going to be the new normal. Old blizzard is gone. Their name is no longer a guarantee of quality, infact for me it has become a symbol of money grubbing developers who like to exploit their players.

OW2 i fear will not be the exception.

it was good while it lasted.

So instead of getting a ‘free skin’ as the launcher says, what’s actually happening is that you want us to pay streamers $15, with a $7.50 cut to Jeff Bezos, to promote your game for you. In return we get a mediocre skin that we’d otherwise have gotten for playing 27 games or whatever.

I’m so done with ActiBlizz when OW1 goes offline.

back in 2019 some ex blizzard devs did an interview where they stated basically that.

“Blizzard” was forcing change on Blizzard Entertainment" just becasue they felt they’d get more $ if it was less satanic like. (does explain diablo 3 tbh)

another diablo dev stated in a different article how AVB has grown too tall and doesnt understand its playerbase anymore.

There has to be valid reasons of this greed over quality content as they have lost every single old Blizzard Entertainment developer. All current Blizzard people piggybacked off the greatness of the og devs who long left.

They have earned nothing (arguably made it worse across all games…except starcraft but again they plan make “side story” for that IP now which likely harm its ip) yet want treated like they are great dev team.

Respect/trust is earned through actions not given for mere words.

Maybe learn to read the room champ. Calling your forum customers 1% hiveminds that dont matter might not be want your bosses see you type to the community. Unless of course you want to mirror Brian Halinka. Maybe think before you type. Do better.

Yes and content creators also have just as many if not more biases and make up an even smaller percent of players. Heck some of the creators you picked have been way louder against overwatch in the past than anyone here on the forums.

And honestly this is more insulting than just “throwing piles of cash at people to stream” because you are forcing your players to be the ones to throw the cash for you.

Aren’t those reasons enough? Wasn’t the goal to make Overwatch 2 with reasonable monetization, not Overwatch Immortal? Mythic skins and battle passes should be enough. If mythic skins are 10 dollars then it’s 20 dollars every 9 weeks. 30 dollars if they are 20 bucks. That’s roughly 120 or 180 dollars a year. 2 or 3 full priced triple A games or many more if you wait for sales. Isn’t that enough? Had you paid that from the release of OW you’d have spent $1080 already.

I’ve been defending the new monetization here on the forums a lot because I do think they need to make money, but it has to be reasonable. They can’t just start nickel and diming everything. If anyone then Blizzard should know their playerbase is full of collectors/completionists who like to have all the bells and whistles but Diablo Immortal model is not going to fly and people will abandon the game if they are forced to pay silly amounts just to get the cosmetics with no other ways of getting them. I’m one of them and suddenly OW2 seems a lot less exciting.

Sure, but you really have to refresh your Twitch list.

As a french player / viewer, I can give you 3 names of Overwatch content creators and Overwatch league casters who have DAILY support your game by giving OW2 / OWLeague OWContenders news, analysis, and playing the game with their community, who doesn’t appears on your list (already been forgotten for the OW2 Beta early access event) : Zaroide, FefeGG, HammerKick ; those guys believe in OW2 more than I do, they gather people into a solid community basis (since OW launch and OWLeague/Contenders started).

Now, if you want, I can give you 1 or 2 (maybe more) french streamers who have barely launch OW (1 or 2 times the last 3 years), because “no new content no buzz”, who appear on that list… But I don’t want to be mean.

One of the worst promotion ever.
You don’t want to pay streamer, so you steal money from every Twitch streamers on the platform, to feed 150 rich kid.
NICE JOB BLIZZARD!

They know that the game is hard to watch on its own, that’s no secret. It was noted by the devs as one of the benefits of going to 5v5.

The whole marketing philosophy is wrong, and sadly this is also reflected through development. ow2 pvp just doesn’t cut it

Oh please. Let’s look at two of the bigger names you guys chose.

xQc, who barely plays or streams OW anymore, and has bad-mouthed it plenty during the past year’s time.

Asmogold, who primarily streams WORLD OF WARCRAFT, not Overwatch, and has even mentioned to his fans that he’s likely going to be streaming FF14 (one of your studio’s main competitors) again soon.

Exactly how does giving money to either of them benefit Overwatch streamers or content creators, as you’ve mentioned?

I get it, you have to tow the company P.R. line. It’s your job. But you should, maybe, be a little less obvious about shoveling absolute BS when you do it.

Transferring the cost from yourselves to the consumer isn’t a good way to get people to be interested.

Just for the heck of it I went and checked out some of the Streamers from the list. You couldn’t pay me to watch them. Cursing and acting like brats. Most of the time they spent banning people for abusive chat. I was watching this and thinking, really Blizzard wants me to give them money? One had over 10 million followers, I will let you guess who.
This is beyond messed up.

Yeeeeeeees. Thank you for finally saying it.

I only occasionally go to the forums because they are mostly a raging storm of toxicity, negativity and entitlement, mostly filled with very opinionated but poorly informed and poorly thought out takes.

You (community managers) are saints for dealing with these people on a daily basis.
