Funny how people still keep trying to drag their expectations from other FPS games into OW and get upset when OW is different. How about stop trying to turn OW into another generic FPS just so it fits into your view of reality.
Terrible analogy that doesn’t address anything I said. Carry on sir
Then please erase this Question. You asked it
Not you I’m guessing? There’s undoutably a whole host of people who like the mix of FPS or technical (mccree vs doomfist, rein v orisa(though Orisa gun is garbage…), monkey vs ball (granted ball has FPS but his mechanics are harder to pull off than monkey).
It’s not unreasonable for you to state that you prefer FPS gameplay to take the forefront, but with the prevalence of non-FPS heroes from the get go (ie the whole tank class, many of the supports and a couple of damage or offense/defence) why don’t you go with either csgo or r6s? Genuine question too, not a veiled “gtfo”.
Overwatch was marketed as a 98:2 FPS:MOBA hybrid.
Having a character that doesn’t use a literal gun does NOT make the game less of an FPS game. The game is built on the foundation that you play in first person to do damage/heal other people to kill/protect them while trying to achieve a goal, like capturing an objective.
Having a few operators with melee weapons doesn’t make the game not an FPS. Having unique abilities does not make the game a MOBA. Having unique heroes does not make the game a MOBA. The game with an FPS through and through. The only things it shares with a MOBA is the unique abilities of heroes and the fact that there are different roles which have to work together for a successful team - but these traits are not exclusive to MOBAs so calling Overwatch a FPS-MOBA hybrid is still ridiculous.
People are still going to do it though.
Yep, I was talking just in regard of “boost a DPS to break the barrier faster” argument.
If your team need heals, healing is better than helping them break the barrier. But if they don’t, pull the pistol instead of boosting, unless you are boosting Bastion (or Hanzo called for Storm Arrow boosting).
Oh yeh that’s fine. I’m just making quips/venting on issues playing a hero I haven’t touched in a year but are still burnt into my mind XD
Here, I did it for you. For weekly data.

That’s the deviation from expected winrate per tier.
And this is the raw data, just c/p it into excel
https://pastebin.com/bADzPyDk
Brigitte isn’t aim based, but Ashe and Zen are kind the definition of aim based heroes.
Ashe is the easiest hitscan. She gets insane value out of Dynamite and Bob + she has an escape.
It’s true that Zen requires aim, however, he gets extreme value out of Transcedence and Discord. And hitting orbs on tanks isn’t difficult at all. Also, his winrate possibly is slightly skewed since he is typically picked only when there’s a support present already.
I agree with all of this.
I’ll go put the data into DC, and see what it pops up.
Do you have historic data, or do I have to hit the archive for it?
I was going to do a project showing correlation between support changes and the win rates of other heroes.
I do but it’s daily entries directly from Overbuff going up to May 2017
But I won’t do it right now since it’s not in a friendly format and I have to pad the missing values for seasonal gaps first.
I feel like this is true, and for those saying that it was never marketed as a full FPS, it was primarily FPS and plays mainly like an FPS not a MOBA. The game is an FPS map and mode but feels like a MOBA in play, which doesn’t combine to well when you add too much MOBA. Much of the original cast was FPS and there were some MOBA heroes, but slighty MOBA still with many FPS parts.
Its supposed to be a FPS with MOBA aspects (abilities, heroes, CC etc.) Not a MOBA in a FPS perspective. All the new heroes except Ana and Ashe are ability based heroes. There are a lot of ability based heroes (Rein, Dva, Winston, Mercy, Lucio) but most of the characters before Ana relied on their FPS aspects. Abilities kept them alive etc. Then you take Sombra, Doom, Ball. All of them are SUPER ability reliant. They cant do anything without them. Reaper, Soldier, Cree, Ashe can all do things without abilities although it cripples them.
Damn, that is fine
Mostly I was interested in running crossfilter over it (for visualisation) and marking all of the patch notes in it.
It would make for a very useful tool.
The last dataset I was working with (overwatch related was to do with hours spend on a hero compared to SR).
The theory was that people should gain SR roughtly at the same rate regardless of the hero (a study in how difficult a hero was to master, as well as impact in games)
Mercy was the big outlier. Never has so many people put in so many hours, and have so little to show for it.
It also showed why she could NEVER be balanced along those lines. Because she had more hours sunk into her, a LOT of it exclusively, if you tried to balance her along hours played, she would look like the moth meta all over again.
Junkrat players were similar, but not to the same degree.
People switching to widow would fall, and either rise REALLY quickly, or stop playing her but they would fall first. Which isn’t surprising, people switching to Tracer DIDN’T fall first, which was surprising.
this game is a fps…
It is. This is Overwatch. Not a RPG game
Nope. The question stands and has not been given an adequate answer. When you can answer adequately please let me know
This. The problem is people not doing their research/not paying attention and going into it thinking it’s a game it isn’t.
You don’t understand it taste like orange because there is orange?
It is like moba because it has moba in it.
It isnt just that either, the only aspect it has of FPS is actually few guns.
Actually Even DMC has guns. Then what is left of FPS here? Teamfight? You can teamfight in Moba as much as you want, and having different weapons to do that is even more moba.
Bad analogy is bad
Bad argument is bad
(I love that your version of an argument is just pronouncing what you believe to be true, very compelling)
Also the fact that it is in, you know, first person
And the fact that you shoot while you are in this first person perspective
You have yet to show how the game plays like a moba or why we should consider it a moba in any way.
Except ultimate abilities of course, so is Apex Legends a moba?
Any game with an ultimate ability is a moba now?
Please, come back when you have a defensible position and an argument that doesn’t boil down to a terrible analogy with an assertion that you are right.
Sorry I am gonna haunt you with this from now. Try again
