You may not play racing games, but what I have to say shouldn’t be too elaborate or difficult to connect.
In a racing game, a lot of people think drifting is fast because it’s very stunning and requires a lot of skill. But the fact of the matter is that drifting is very SLOW unless certain conditions are met, such as the track surface being muddy/dirt and being behind the wheel of an AWD/4WD vehicle.
Some games provide a more realistic simulation of driving such as Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon which reinforce this fact.
However, some games such as The Crew, Need For Speed and Mario Kart do not.
If you buy a game marketed as a realistic racing game such as Forza Motorsport… And then you try to make a game that’s like a 70/30 hybrid such as Forza Horizon… people get upset when it plays like Mario Kart.
And Overwatch? Overwatch is a 70/30 hybrid. Or at least, it used to be. And it’s marketed as if it were an FPS but plays like a MOBA now. People feel betrayed, OW isn’t the same game that it was 2 years ago.
You can blame whoever you want, but at the end of the day you can chalk every problem players have with present day Overwatch up to the fact that they feel the product has been misrepresented and Blizzard failing to recognize the identity of the game.
The racing comparison is a good one as far as expectations vs. reality across games, but I disagree that Overwatch was marketed as a shooter. It seemed clear from day 1 that it would be a team-based, ability-based game with FPS components.
Blizzard was fairly clear on the fact that Overwatch was going to be a FPS-Moba hybrid. Any and all disappointment, anger, or whatever people may feel is on them, and them alone.
Why play an FPS Moba if it becomes too much like a MOBA? FPS games are founded on the prominence of mechanical skill as opposed to the technical skill of MOBA style games.
yeah, old Overwatch was so much simpler and better
i’m reminded of this whenever a Tracer ganks me while i’m trying to back and thinking about which item to buy next to compliment my leveling choices but nooo, i have to die and lose a tower because our jungler is rotating wrong and didnt even ward the objective
The problem I have with Overwatch now is that abilities >>>>> skill.
I’ve gotten my aim to better than it’s probably ever been, but it’s still absolutely worthless in the face of w+m1 from a tank.
What fun is that? The most effective strategy to win isn’t to play well or get better, it’s to click Rein and just resign yourself to not enjoying the match.
Aiming isn’t really something you do in Overwatch anymore IMO. You used to have a ton of opportunities to hone your aim. You don’t get to do the challenging hard shots anymore and when you do, its like 1/3 chances to do them.
I started playing OW because I wanted something different. Now it is the same as WoW ever was and I quit playing that game because the PvP was crap and I was tired of raiding after 10 years.
Now you play OW and you just blow up a tank and support and you win the game. You don’t even care about the DPS unless it’s a Hanzo or Widowmaker. People playing DPS right now are playing OW on hard mode.
I’m not sure what to say to people who think Overwatch isn’t marketed as an FPS. Because it’s like, I know you see the 4 people in your group that instantly lock Genji Hanzo Widowmaker and Ashe.
I mean maybe you pretend they aren’t there because they’re always on their own adventure but I know they are there lmao.
