As the title says. I haven’t played OW since before the 2 update, and decided to download it through steam yesterday since I saw there’s achievements.
Anyway, I finished installing, launched it, and connected my steam account to my blizzard account just fine. However the game simply doesn’t wanna get past the initial “connecting to game servers” screen. It keeps looping between “connecting”, “searching for game servers”, “connecting to game servers” and “entering game”, before looping back to “connecting”. You can see it in this gif here: https://i_imgur_com/PF1U6Tr_gif (replace the _ with .)
I’m not sure what’s going on, I tried a vpn, I sent a ticket to support and got an automated response, tried all the fixes there too. I checked and double checked my firewall. The only thing I haven’t tried is to reinstall it on battlenet, but I’d like not to redownload the 50 gb. I still wonder if something on my pc might be blocking it from connecting, but I’m not sure.
Also if it’s worth any note, I accidentally went and connected my steam account on my own before doing it again via the ingame menu, so I’m not sure if doing that twice actually caused any problem, the site seems to still recognize the connection.
It just doesn’t give me an error message or even tell me something failed, it just keeps looping and I have no idea what to do.
Also, I don’t know if this is worth mentioning, but I’m in Egypt. Idk if there’s a region lock or ISP block or something
Unfortunately, you would need to consult your ISP about whether or not traffic is blocked to the Google datacenter you would normally connect to. I know some countries in that region do not allow VOIP and block services that use it. Not sure if that’s the case for Egypt, just offering the info.
Yeah, some VoIP services and games are blocked in Egypt, but usually a simple VPN would circumvent that, which doesn’t seem to be the case here. Regardless I’ll try to consult the ISP too. I know OW’s voice chat is blocked but other posts i’ve seen implied you could still play the game itself, just not connect to voice channels.
I’m inclined to believe this because the game actually connects successfully every time, it just fails at the “entering game” segment, which is weird
I have exactly the same issue except i have to put in my credentials again after every single try. Ticket didnt help i got an automated response too. Firewalls and all that stuff were off and Diablo3 and Hearthstone are working without any issues. Dont know what to do
Do you know which Google datacenter with an Overwatch server you’re closest to? It may be a problem with the route going through a country that Egypt doesn’t have connection agreements with.
I have 2 step key lock in my account and now I can no longer have access to my account for anything. I can’t log on in the website. I can’t’ log on through the phone app. I can’t log on through the battle.net PC app. my friend can’t even view my profile as it would go on an endless “hour glass” loop and just crash. it is happening at around 3pm.
I have the same issue as mentioned above. Downloaded the game through steam last Friday and played fine after linking my battle.net with both my steam account, google account and xbox account. Then the next day I tried to play again but got stuck in this cycle. Thought maybe the servers were down to played something else. One day later I tried to get and got stuck in the same loop once again, went through tech support and did all the connection fixes with no luck. Finally I tried making a second account on a separate email and phone number, connected just my steam account and was able to play with no issues. Only problem is I had none of the characters unlocked and none of my skins. Serious problem that has nothing to do with internet connection or ISPs, just an obvious bug on Blizzard’s side of things.

No, this is not what the OP is experiencing, and not relevant to this topic. The OP updated the game after not playing since before Overwatch 2 was released and hasn’t been able to login at all.
You’re reporting that you installed the game, played for a bit, and now you can’t login. You and Vulcan should make separate threads.

To clarify, I uninstalled the game since and only installed it recently. I’ve changed laptops twice since then and also moved countries. I was in Poland when I made the account.
The latter is important because I think the issue might stem from my account’s country not matching my location, or simply not letting me set up a phone number anymore. I found another thread that mentioned how adding a phone number fixed this. I’m trying to change my account’s country to fix this now to see if it’ll work, but it’s taking a while. Blizz support is being very difficult with what I sent so I have to get new documents. Anyway, I’ll post an update when I can if this works or not
I’m having the same issue as OP reported. Old timer here, account active for roughly a decade, haven’t played since Overwatch 1. My son wanted to start Overwatch 2 so I put it on his machine and freshly loaded it onto mine via battle.net launcher. His on his machine is fine, with his brand-new account. Mine produces the same login loop, going from “connecting to game servers” to “Connecting” and then the login prompts. If I enter my account info, it loops indefinitely like this. If I enter my son’s, it logs in fine.
I’ve had three support tickets opened and ultimately prematurely closed, where every possible suggestion was asked of me over than “Let us look at your account to see why yours is causing issues when playing Overwatch 2”. They all ultimately say to ask the community for help…with an account issue. About as helpful as being chased by a gorilla towards a house with a red-hot door handle, and no windows!
Back to the topic. This is an issue with older accounts just starting to play Overwatch 2, where potentially the 2022 issues with SMS validation and their fixes are not carrying over. I’ve done everything possible including deleting all cache, programdata, removing all references to OW2 in files and registry, closing all third party applications and disabling security/protection (but again, my sons account will log in from my machine, mine won’t, so that eliminates all possibility of it being my local machine other than cache which has been reset). The support process has been infuriating.

I am having literally the same issue since 2-3 days ago. I’ve had Overwatch since it came out and stopped playing a few years back (before OW2) and decided I wanted to play again. I made a support ticket mentioning every step I had tried and got back an answer saying… to do those exact steps… I created a topic here (since this one didn’t show up at first for some reason) Can't connect to game server . I’m linking it just in case it proves to be something else and not the same issue.
I haven’t moved countries, all I did was change from a laptop to a PC…
I got a reply to my last ticket just now, after I replied that the issue is caused by the phone number SMS problems after they gave me more things to do to my local machine like check OS updates…and the reply was that they could see a different phone number associated to my new Overwatch 2 account than what my account currently has. Before downloading Overwatch 2, like you, 3-ish days ago, I logged into my account and said, “Oh hey, that phone number is no longer valid, I haven’t had it for a decade now, I should update it so my info is current.”. I did so, and I believe that is what’s causing this issue. Maybe I tried Overwatch 2 when it came out, I have no idea, I would have played probably 5 minutes years ago. But regardless, I can’t change back to my old phone number because it’s not mine anymore and hasn’t been for 10 years (I did give the full number to support though so they could see it was still me). This makes no sense why you can’t change your account with a new phone number that has never been associated with a blizz account. I tried with both my primary number and my business number, both didn’t produce any different results.
I’m a one-account guy, always have been, no alts, and I’m starting to think that updating my info to current in my account is now what has locked me out of Overwatch 2. Funny thing is, Call of Duty works just fine, and it reportedly has the same protections on it for tying accounts to phone numbers.

Yeah, you didn’t mention that detail. Changing the country on the account will most likely fix the issue.
Nicole, have you read/heard of the phone number issues from a couple years ago affecting any accounts recently (such as in the OP’s case or mine described above, which seems identical if not similar), especially those that are older accounts who just started playing an affected game? Assuming all local machine/network/ISP factors are OK and not influencing the login loops, and regions are set appropriately.
Hi, try with a new account if you can i’ll guarantee you that it’ll work. The issue is on their end but they are incapable of solving the issue. I’ve been talking to support for 5 days and they can’t do anything. They say the issue is on my end (blablabla,pc,router, internet) but with a new account it works perfectly fine.
I bought the first Overwatch and i can’t even play on the account i bought that damn game… Tried Steam too but it doesn’t work either.

It does work with another account on my same machine/installation (my son’s account, created just this weekend). The issue is surely on the server side, and I get the same responses as you have, which is honestly unacceptable when cause has been proven to be company-side.
If I were to need to create a different account and switch between the two whenever I wanted to play different games, I’d honestly just stop playing Blizzard/Activision’s games. I don’t and have never used multiple accounts, it’s just not that important to me, and there are plenty of other games to keep my attention during the brief times I play (though, like others in my age group, we tend to spend a lot on in-game royalties, my transaction history would support that. I don’t have the time to grind, so my wallet does the grinding. Losing such a customer because they don’t want to fix a broken system is beyond me).

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m wondering if I should delete my 17 year old battle.net account…
I have the same issue, older account hasnt played since 2018.
Ticket system is just a bunch of standadized walls of texts regarding things that has nothing to do with the issue at hand.
Blizzard needs to fix this…

I think they have automated the responses with AI, since all I get are the same answer templates, just worded differently…
This just happened to me too. I am one of those who bought the game many years ago and I came back to it because I am mad of apex dropping Linux support. I guess both games suck lol.
