Having experienced more crap games than good games in OQ, yeah, I can say that. *shrug
Balancing isn’t the issue. We have a problem with DPS because that’s all most players want to play. DPS. Then we get DPS players on tanks and support that can’t do either very well. You can’t balance the player’s skills or abilities.
You have no idea how many games of OQ where I join and we get instalock of 4 DPS players. THAT is the reality. And most of the time they don’t swap off either. I have had games as bad as one tank, 5 DPS and no one wants to heal, or no one wants to tank, and its a complete argument rage infested swamp of players. At least in RQ the anger is less. The people there most likely to yell at you there are the DPS players. Funny how that works.
RQ addressed that balance. The downside is the popular role has a wait time. Too bad?
I deal with it just fine. Most of us do. Apparently some of you do not. *shrug
The poll asks whether people want to keep RQ or revert to open Q. It doesn’t account for those of us would like to keep RQ but prefer OQ
A better format might be simply to ask: which format do you prefer?
As you highlighted, you might want to also post this to non-English speaking forums as well as more European based places
An even better experiment would be: Get rid of role queue for competitive for one year. Re-locate quick play role Q To Arcade. And have open Q back as it was on the main screen. Have it as the main mode. Balanced for, etc. Then after that year bring back competitive role Q but put it into the arcade. Make no announcement of this. Then we take the usage data of a single day and draw conclusions
That would be the first option as it’s the status quo.
This is a terrible experiment simply due to the overwhelming support RQ has regardless of it’s based on preference or usage.
My main issue with suggestions like that in this discussion is how drastic the suggestions are wheb it’s essentially is just to humor the idea that their may be a chance that OQ somehow is the most prefered even though nothing supports it.
Infact I’m not even going to humor it anymore, at this point only 16.5% prefer OQ, and until better data is provided I’m going to refer to this as enough evidence to back it up.
CHAOS vs STRUCTURE. i use to be in the chaos team way before role queue was implemented. i even loved no limit open queue at release… since BIG TIME CHAOS.
i use to hate how people always screamed
“hey guys 2-2-2 please!”
“hey guys i dont want to be the only healer!”
“we need more than 1 tank guys! pleaaaseee!”
it was more funny if it was the dps player saying these things but i always just told people "guys just play whatever your comfortable with … " since i never did like backseat gaming anyways. if the game was lost people would blame it on the team composition or the team not using the meta comp… whatever that comp was. people just never liked to blame themselves and found excuses on why something couldnt work
when they introduced role queue i hated it at first but over time it actually won me over. it does bring an semblance of ORDER. now people cant really force or try to coerce you into roles you dont want to play … of course there is still backseat gaming and you still have players telling you to switch to another dps/heaer/support if its not going well.
i think people are so use to way it is now so i dont think we will EVER go back to open queue being the dominant mode. i doubt blizzard would just get rid of role queue altogether and it seems like community likes structure over chaos. it is the more popular choice so thats about it i guess
Then I don’t understand, how does the poll accurately reflect which mode is preferred? How does it show conclusively that “at this point only 16.5% prefer OQ,”?
You yourself admitted various reasons as to why it is flawed.
You also did not provide links to the sources. You just named them.
A terrible experiment but apparently valid according to some.
Do you think it would still win out in usage?
It would also be interesting to see quick play versus competitive results.
Assuming this is correct that’s still quite a sizeable amount of people who prefer it.
Previous polls on this topic showed closer results which is interesting. It could suggest that people who preferred open Q left the game or do not participate in these polls
I think polls like this are fun and all but at the end of the day what is the point? Especially if you make no real effort to eliminate bias and then draw conclusions
We know that the developers think there is sufficient interest for open Q to merit it having a permanent place in the competitive card
It’s also not going to stop us from talking about the many, severe flaws that RQ has
To OP, I personally prefer Ordered / Role Queue to the Chaotic Open Queue. I feel that the devs have done a fantastic job of replacing open queue as the main mode and ergo, find it to be one of the greatest additions to the game.
I have to agree 100% with this. The queuing of roles, I find, is the best way to play the game by far. I’m glad the devs have made it the main way to play the game.
They both have their strengths. I personally prefer role que, it just seems more serious and team oriented. But I do occasionally jump in open que just to drop all that try hard stuff and mess around on random hero’s.
Fwiw, since I see people discussing it, Jeff said in a Dev update video that open que is the least popular mode. The workshop is played more. Except for Korea where it’s second behind role que. That was more than a year ago though so maybe it’s changed.
Open queue is buried in the game joining UI, role queue is front and center. I would wager the average overwatch player doesnt even know open queue exists.
If their places were switched, open queue would have the larger player base.
If they were side-by-side, I think role queue would have the larger player base still, but only marginally. I think people would queue for both honestly.
this data was not preference/popularity data, it was (and is) usage data.
Usage data is very different than preference/popularity data.
Further, said data was for a single day, and that single day was within 48 hours of role-less queue being re-added to the game, ie few if any folks even knew that this had happened yet.
Further still, said game mode was buried in the arcade menu, not side by side with 222, making it an apples to oranges comparison even for purposes of comparing usage
That is the exact problem, I dont think most players know it even exists, how many people go digging through past the main game search screen? CTF and mayhem came back at some point, and I wasnt even aware of it.
With the caveat that the OQ option says reverting the official mode to OQ but doesn’t actually say anything about removing RQ, I’d vote OQ. Triple something keeps so many things in check and gives each individual player far more options. It’s 222 most of the time anyway. This season I actually did placements and OQ was the first time I had fun in comp since my stack quit over brig.
Personally I would say
keep rq
its very good for the game
I wish they did make a few changes more before changing it with nerfs and buffs to heroes HOWEVER I think that Role que helps the game more than it hurts AND open q still exists
I still play my placements for Open q for the comp points its still fun to go 6 stack goats or something in open q but overall role q is here to stay and it should be 6v6 2-2-2 is good
RQ is massively more popular than the alternative, it has always been that way. Only a vocal minority pretends that is not because they cant accept it and have to constantly complain about it. This poll is just another example of this.
The first option is the one that supports RQ as the official mode (front and center, the one balanced for and OWL format) while having the option to play OQ. Basically the way things are now.
2nd option is reverting to OQ being the main mode, balance for it, and that in OWL.
If you still play OQ but prefer the way things are now it’s still the status quo, you are okay with your mode not being the one that gets resources.
Yes, no system is perfect but like I have said in many previous discussions when looking at the flaws of both systems I prefer RQ because to me the flaws are more managable, literally my only personal flaw is queue times but even that I don’t have much of an issue with anymore because of priority pass.
What sources are we talking about? Where I shared the poll link?
The some based on what I believe based on the data I collected is a small minority that isn’t enough for an experiment of this scale at all.
And yes, I think people who prefer RQ would still play it, if people are willing to spend longer queuing I’d assume they have the patience to click 1-2 more times.
As of this post 308 have participated from different communities and it’s drawing a clear picture, obviously I can’t ask everyone or Asian players or people who left. But, at that point you are also setting unreasonable standards for your data/evidence at which point it seems more like arguing for the sake of arguing which I very much think this entire discussion is.
I also don’t think the opinion of people who quit matters, what’s interesting is the opinion of those who decided to stay and still play because those are the players that matter.
I haven’t seen the previous polls would you like to share it and let me know what flaws they have?
That’s not necessarily the reason behind why it’s there. It could simply be logical for them to have that specific competitive mode on the main comp card while the other competitive modes in Arcade are exclusively arcade centric modes.
You can do that all you want but again, as of this post it seems like 84.39% of people, like me, think OQ’s flaws are worse.
This statement is based on the data I have collected through my poll which is very clearly favoring RQ so I’ll take the liberty of calling it fact.
Same as above, if you want to argue against that the burden of proof is now on you. I have done my part. I don’t like discussions based on “ifs” and “buts”.
Usage means players made a simple choice to press the button to join the game mode they prefer. Preference infers popularity, therefore, usage data infers popularity. Could you please explain where my logic is flawed?
Can you also explain why you believe the data is not relevant, or present opposing data?
Location in the UI actually is a valid point, however, if your baseless claim of popularity of OQ was true, this would not affect which mode was most popular.
Also, could you answer the various people that have asked “Megadodo, what is your list of problems with RQ?”?
