You know what actually sucks? Two tanks who are just pressing W and feeding for priority passes because they’re really just dps players, and a dps Ana who is really just a Widow main also farming priority passes.
RQ was not this game’s saving grace, it just tried to more stringently control what players could do, and that, friends, is not a good thing. Anytime the devs take away our autonomy in that matter, it really starts to narrow the potential of the game. And it did. In a big way. But not a good way.

Kaplan declared that most matches with 3 roles representation were the most played and in them, most of them had at least 1 tank, and mostly 1-2 healers, 3-4 DPS.

Wrong. We know dps players are a majority of the player base. Even if you got a 2-2-2 match in open queue, it’s almost certain that one or more of your tank/support teammates will be a dps filling. In this case you would almost always be at a disadvantage vs a team that has tanks/supports who are actually tank/support players.

I would say the lack of support, content, and balance for the last few years is what drove players away. Role queue was a good addition in my eyes, it has some drawbacks but was overall very positive for me. I don’t have an issue with Q times at any time of day, but I play on console NA.

I’m not sure if it’s only me but matches with priority pass or flex queue are extremely unbalanced.
Role queue wasn’t bad but lack of mmr and sr reset was typical big brain move from Blizzard. It messed up the ladder and it’s not uncommon to see someone with 3.8k in one role but 2.6k in another. But who even cares anymore.

You carry over your rank as well in OW2. At this point OW is a social experiment to figure out the tolerance of the community.
Orisa used to also play like that since her barrier was stronger & fortify was weaker. Now with her barrier being weaker & fortify being stronger she’s more useful outside of just having a shield.
You do realize that the vast majority of tank players & players in general left prior to role queue right? The playerbase went from like 50 million to a fraction of that by the time role queue finally came out. If role queue was implemented at launch instead we’d have a much larger playerbase.
Well, myself & many others don’t. It’s not exactly fun for me to slow walk towards the enemy holding my barrier most of the match. I’d rather have 400 less HP & move faster like Rein does now because it puts power in my hands, not my teammates who are relying on the barrier. Same with Orisa. I’d rather have a stronger fortify & weaker barrier instead of a stronger barrier & be weaker without it. I’m playing tank so that I have value, not just to enable my team.
Barriers needed to be nerfed. It’s called “the great barrier nerf patch” for a reason
People don’t play Overwatch to shoot at blue walls for most of the game. That’s not fun.
That was the biggest problem Overwatch had… that you could stack more than 2 of any role on a team which caused major synergy issues. Why play DPS when you can play 3-3 instead?

It’s been years so I’ve forgotten, but how were tanks “Dumpstered” prior to 2-2-2? We had Goats meta and triple tank meta before 2-2-2, they couldn’t have been that weak.

My claim is that people complaining 5 DPS were a big issue and it happened all the time are simply overexaggerating and its not true at all. Since Jeff stated that, nothing much to say there.

Uh, not really? A lot of players were peer pressured into picking tank/healer in open queue bc everyone knows the game is lost at hero select if you don’t have at least one of each.
Even if you were already a tank/healer main, it wasn’t a good time. Very few heroes are capable of solo tanking/solo healing effectively, so most of the already sparse tank/support hero options were basically unavailable from the get-go.
Not having a second tank/support to “share the load” put a LOT of pressure on the Solo tank/healer, so the only way to not crash and burn was to already be really, really good at the hero you’re already playing.
To my knowledge, the only players who could regularly solo tank/solo heal without burning out and hating the position they’ve been pressured into were players who mained/one-tricked Reinhardt, Dva and Mercy before any of them were reworked/nerfed into the ground. That’s it.
How the Hell did it create more problems than it solved? Different problems replaced the old ones, but it by no stretch of the imagination made more. It fixed a ton more with general match quality. And double barrier with Sigma and Orisa wasn’t role queue’s fault because it could have existed without role queue. So if you’re including that as a list of problems due to role queue, don’t. It’s stupid to blame role queue for that.
As for queue times, they can try more and more to fix those queue times, but player interest is primarily with the DPS category. It sucks that queue times can be so long and priority passes were introduced with a complete misunderstanding of how if everyone uses one, no one effectively has one. And they only refund the priority pass if it’s way way over the suggested time … the suggested time of queueing without one. They estimated time of a priority pass queue is always such a blatant lie. 2 minutes or sometimes even a minute. But in reality much more than that.
But whether you like it or not, Role Queue is one of the best updates we have ever received.
You need to compare the number of otp before and after to prove anything. Since you have neither it’s silly to claim you know anything. Someone can easily say the game has less otp now because RQ-flex queue, and nerfs to most common otp heroes like Sym or Mercy have either become less powerful than their peak stats or been reworked to alienate those communities. There’s more nuance here to simply say that one player vs five players to compete with for hero picks means more otp. There are a lot heroes in the game now so the possibility of meeting another otp who mains your hero was always pretty rare.
So on one hand to claim the devs on your side and yet they implemented 2-2-2. So either the devs arent as trusthworthy with their words or they deemed 2-2-2 necessary.
