You’re delusional if you think there’s going to be any sort of massive sea change regarding tanks between now and OW2’s release. If tanks kill people, content creators scream themselves raw over it. And that’s who blizzard listens to.
Given their focus with the Priority Pass system, I think it would be blindness to act like the devs aren’t going to large efforts to convert DPS players into Tank players.
And this extra damage on Reinhardt just goes to show, they are leaning in that direction for balance.
They ain’t. Remember when they let Hog be good for about a month, everybody complained incessantly and they immediately walked it back? Remember when Jeff said they wanted every tank to function like an off tank and then did absolutely nothing to facilitate that?
Priority pass is just a band aid to compensate for people not wanting to play a slow, unimpactful class. It’s hardly an indicator for anything.
This so much, when people say hitscan are better than projectile heros. it’s the same range will always dominate, could remove every hitscan hero, people will pick pharah torb hanzo not genji doom.
The reason ds is good is they can shoot from range.
Same reason rein orissa is rarely a problematic meta.
If they reduce sigma primary range to 5m ds will die tommorow.
Not really, even if Orisa and Sigma had zero range damage, they’d still have superior raw barrier hp, and a grasp, and potentially fortified Orisa bodyblocks.
The devs need to focus on disarming DoubleBarrier’s close range defences.
And actually buffing their barriers, so that AnchorTank meta isn’t so boring for SingleBarrier.

Sure sigma has overloaded kit and certainly needs nerfs, but both will work nerfing range will make them easier to brawl, nerfing kit will make them easier to dive.
I will take either, nerfing kit though will just make them unviable.
I would rather have them take a range hit than kit and increasing shield to compensate.
At this point we are all biased bunch, i want brawl, you want dive, genji mains want nanoboost patent.
Doesn’t really leave much room for anything besides Dive or SingleBarrier+PeelTank.
And you wouldn’t get the SingleBarrier+PeelTank, unless there was something to Peel against (I.e. Dive)
Also by nerfing Orisa and Sigma at close range, you can buff them at medium range (I.e. Barriers). Which makes it so that SingleBarrier for Plat and below isn’t “Rein or Lose”.
OP you have no idea what you’re talking about, Rein has barely gotten the balance changes that other heroes have by a huge margin. It’s not Rein’s fault that the devs can’t use their brains.
The “Buff” to his knockback made it worse to play Rein, cause not only did it make everyone have to adjust how far they played from edges and pits, MULTIPLE times cause they couldn’t decide, and then made him MORE vulnerable to Hog ult at the original 50% resistance to the point he’d die almost every single time no matter how good you flashed your shield. Plus it can cause a Rein that gets booped with his team to get separated from them enough for one to fall out of his shield and die or get thrown from it cause the Rein doesn’t take as much knockback, was a bigger problem before they reduced it but it’s annoying to even happen in the first place.
His hammer speed buff means almost nothing, nobody i know that plays the game even knows about it unless they go look it up themselves.
His movement speed buffs didn’t even really help the real problem, and only bandaged the issues in other areas of the game that made Rein seem weak.
Rein is also the only tank that is actually truly restricted at range as much as he is, he only gets 1 firestrike every 6 seconds, even as strong as it is, which is how it should be for a melee-primary tank. Zarya and Hog don’t have this weakness, and other tanks can just close the distance or have ranged damage.
He got his shatter nerfed unfairly because they power-creeped the heck out of Echo and/or felt it should get nerfed along other CC when it’s one of the only ones who didn’t deserve it, who should have just gotten nerfed herself, but no, they just ruined Rein’s own ability to kill his own Shatter targets (his team included, nobody will kill more than 1 very often unless you time it with them, which should never be necessary given it’s an ULT, not a regular ability.) and then they thought they could fix it by just making him do more damage, -_-…that helps nobody. Instead of taking 3 hits to kill a squishy, now it’ll take 3, and now instead of taking 2 hits with firestrike, it’ll take 2 hits with firestrike. Cause you know despite that extra damage from Shatter, it always somehow manages to just not matter.
He’d need 100 extra armor instead of 50 to make any difference in how much burst and random insta-death damage is going around to even notice the difference really, you still take a lot of damage, and honestly this buff will do nothing but confuse people and make them thing they can take more when they end up feeding because of how pitifully effective it is, because surprise, it’s not the problem. It’s the damage itself.
And no, before you assume it, i don’t support the new changes, i hate it, it feels like i don’t deserve any of the value or kills i get anymore, cause for someone who’s spend 1500 hours mastering the art of tracking his very specific damage values, it’s an insult to him and anybody who’s put the time and effort into him. I honestly don’t feel like playing the game anymore, especially if he’s gonna get balance changes to follow up with that stuff accordingly like they did to Roadhog, where they juggled him around pointlessly, when he was fine to begin with, maybe a minor change or 2 from it at the most.
I’m a Rein 1-Trick and i actually oppose these changes cause it does the same thing that D.VA’s buff and the Shield nerfs did, made it so it was more rewarding to play in a braindead hammer-bot style with pockets. I don’t want the hero i’ve played for so long, one of the only ones that felt honest and fulfilling to play to be reduced to another mess of balancing.
I’m worried they are gonna go for the less shield more damage/heath idea for tanks more often imagine eventually all tanks will do more DPS than actual DPS
I don’t know why they gave him a damage buff or a health buff, it was not the issue. Rein is not the issue here.
Oh is that why there are so many trash bin Heroes in gm that are actually good at lower ranks. It’s almost like blizzard does care but doesn’t want to ruin the competitive integrity that the game has left and so they found a compromise.
i think his design got outdated as time went on so he did need some improvements all those months ago, though i don’t know why they decided to buff him the other day when he was not a problem
