Such as using LFG / petitioning the devs to fix LFG. The tools are there, even if they aren’t that great. If more people used them, then there wouldn’t be calls for forced role locks.
I was not referring to your suggestion, which I have no problems with. I was referring to the original poster’s attitude about forcing roles when talking about forcing roles.
I mean, you say “old stupid argument” but you didn’t really argue against it. Sym for example really needs a shield tank to get in there and have some serious impact as she’s a mid/close range squishy with no real escapes. 222 doesn’t stop me going two off tanks, Reddit Lucio, and flanking Moira right? That’s why why mention 1/1/1/1/1/1 being the next when it doesn’t work.
because it would be a role bases SR with in a 2-2-2 structure. There is a night and day difference between looking to play into maybe a team of 4DPS as a comp or maybe a team with 4-3 Mercy mains and no tank players.
vs a 2-2-2 set up where every single role is SR correct, for that role. Might not like their play style, but it’s still how they got there in that role.
So now every team one faces has two tanks and those tanks are always backed by two supports. Yes you will still see good and bad play and wonky comps that don’t work etc. Yet a DPS player at SR____ who can’t/will not swap to counter Pharah will not be able to then play 5+ games as Brig or Mercy to make up for not playing DPS that could counter Pharah.
Their DPS role SR will keep falling until they either learn to counter Pharah better or hit a SR where it doesn’t mater.
Look the swap over to 2-2-2 isn’t going to be perfect but it’s going to be better than what we have right now. That’s how much of a mess we are in game play wise.
That only works right now when you can get someone on your team to swap roles with in case you can’t accommodate to your comp. If you can only play Moira, Brig, and Bap and your team wants to run dive you’re screwed; if your team wants to go Bunker and you can only play Zarya, Winston, and Reinhardt you’re also screwed, etc.
At least right now most people have a hero or two in at least one other role they can go if needed.
It’s not even that I don’t in theory enjoy the idea of seeing all those DPS ponies cry and whine and suffer because of their 15 hour queues. Because we all know that’ll happen.
But I frankly don’t think Overwatch’s current class/role model is flexible enough for this use case:
There are only very few tanks and healers, but tons of DPS after Defense/Offense got merged. That’s problematic IMO, giving the two people on the DPS slots more variety and leading to even longer DPS queues. As a pure support player with the odd Miley Cyrus moment I don’t mind, but it sure feels boring if the DPS role has the tons of heroes and I only get 7 to pick from the whole match even when I need to adapt. That is, my ability to shift to more offense or more raw healing is hampered not by an inability to do so, but by there only being 1 pick for each option. Boring.
Too many hybrids. Does Brigitte count as either tank or support? Does Zenny use up a DPS slot since he’s essentially a non-scoping sniper? Is Zarya also possible as a support pick if the other support is Ana, Moira or Mercy? I suspect the answer is always “no”, but that just leads to extremely tilted stacking capabilities.
I think a healthier setup would be a more “flexible” loadout. Like MOBAs do it when matching teams. In Overwatch it could be this:
Each team needs either 1 shield tank or two other tanks.
Each team also needs either 1 main healer or two other healers.
Each team can at most employ three snipers across two roles (that is, Widow, McCree, Ashe, Hanzo, Ana and Zenny).
Yeah, at least put it as an arcade mode, try it out. At this point when I see 4 dps (which is about 90% of the time at night) I either leave or screw around as mei.
I don’t know why people think this would make the games any more competitive. Yes, it sure would have some benefits, like easier balancing and people playing the role they want, but I doubt it’d be a much of a change to how people play.
Just because it’d be a 2-2-2 it doesn’t mean you wouldn’t have Zarya with feeding Hog, someone who picked up Widowmaker for the first time and a 1v6 Genji who thinks he’s the new hokage, followed up with flanker Zen and DPS Moira.
Imagine if they just put a restriction “only one sniper dps per team only one flanker dps per team” overwatch would lose like 70% of the usebase in a week but boy would team comps be sooooo much better.
Oooh, youre right, another bonus, a valid reason to report people who never had any intention of working with their team. Shame it will never happen, but i can dream.
