Petition to make profiles public again

Upvote / Heart this post if you believe profiles should be made public (at least in comp).

Otherwise, please explain to me why it’s okay for players in-game avatar border’s to represent how much they’ve played. That’s almost just as “bad” as a player having a public profile.

“Gold border Gold rank, how is that even possible. Do you play with ur monitor on?”

It won’t happen because of one tricks and people also getting abused.

I do wish people’s profiles would have been automatically public instead of automatically private.

…my vote is for letting each player choose what they want as individuals and respect each other’s preferences without judgements.

i say keep them private

Its funny how much players stress over it

Says a whole lot about the players who do tho, huh?

Totally understand why it was a problem, I’m glad the option was added. Micromanaging who people play was never going to be healthy for the game. Forcing people to trust their teammates while eliminating the ability to scape goat or shame players for a loss is definitely a good thing. People really just need to mind their own business and play their own hero as best they can and let others do the same. I’m against permanently public profiles, sorry, pal.

I think it should just default to public.

Most people simply don’t care that it’s public. Those who do still have the option to make it private.

Making it default to private is just anti-teamwork.

Atleast make it public when outside the game.

If your only justification for it is “toxicity” then make it two settings. Make it private by default when inside a game, but make it public by default when outside the game.

It defaults to private because then people with private profiles can’t get abused for having them private. If you intentionally switch it to private, people will wonder why, it’ll just lead to more toxicity.

What I want to know is why you nerds need to see someone’s profile if not to micromanage another player? You don’t need to see their profile, it’s none of your business. Sorry you can’t blame a loss on someone based on an arbitrary piece of information you dig out of their profile, and instead have to look at your own performance.

What reason do you have to look people up after the game and see what their stats are like?
That would absolutely enable abuse.

More data points for data aggregates like overbuff, masteroverwatch and omnicmeta.

How?

A couple of weeks ago I’d be agreeing with you but I have been judged based on my profile and told my opinion isn’t welcomed by a group of mains of she who shall not be named,it was sad and although I really can take it and just carry on i see how such behaviour would upset someone.

Pretty easy to look people up on the site between rounds and harass them just like you would normally with public profiles.

Just make it default to public. There, issue resolved.

That’s stretching it dude. Do you actually believe people would go out of their way to go browse during a game?

I’d say the same about harassing people during a game where you’re supposed to be having fun, but apparently common sense isn’t really what people are working with here.
Profiles being private could also be seen as you trying to hide something, which I genuinely believe WOULD spur people on to quickly investigate between rounds. It’d take like 10 seconds.

It’s common because you don’t have to leave the game and the tools to view are right there for you to use with just a few clicks.

How do you check competitive stats if their profile is private? O.o

Private Profile helps the people to actually concentrating on the game. I have been spreading this idea long before it was a thing so I am quite happy with it.

Think what if otherwise people would react if they saw a Sym main and a Bastion main duo appear on your team. Some would probably throw tbh.

There’s an ingame overlay that you can very easily use to check someone out. “Hajile overwatch profile” on google took me directly to your profile.

You mean the ingame overlays that can simply be set to be disabled if set to private?

Remember what i said?

If you really don’t want it seen, you can just set both to private
