NGL it kinda does seem like a desperation move because IIRC steam takes a cut of all in-game purchases. It’d be pretty odd to put it on steam if not betting on the massive exposure boost the game will get.

This is 100% a hail-mary move.

This comes right after layoffs, termination fee deals for OWL, a grim face of this morning looking-like stories.

Even if this was set in motion months ago, this wouldn’t have been sent right after all of that without reason, they’re trying to cover up the issues once again.

they are getting desperate, trying to broaden their pool of Free to play players. However most people have both steam and battle.net so i dont know how much theyll really pick up with this

They got their lunch ate by every other big F2P game out there. There were some rumors about Valorant getting ported to consoles. That will take even more players away from OW2. Then of course CSGO2 will destroy everything.

On one hand this is likely because of the Microsoft buy out. Removing “Blizzard exclusive” platforms just makes sense. On the other hand it’s probably a huge mistake in that it will let us see the actual player numbers for a change…

There’s APEX Legends too.

The hero shooter genre in Steam are too saturated at this point.

It’s gonna be jarring to some when they see just how unpopular this game is compared to TF2 and Apex.

Maybe, but I found it odd how this announcement was made on the same day that Microsoft was suppose to finalize the deal with taking over.

They did the same with CoD and that game isn’t exactly struggling.

Actually there’s a second really important feature it brings: Reviews. Now we can see what the majority of people really think about the game compared to its peers.

CoD is much more popular than OW2. They might as well be on different planets.

I mean yeah, but they put CoD on the Battle.net app as well. So maybe it was just one of those. We are doing this for CoD, why not do it for OW as well and see how well it goes.

Other games like Apex Legends did the same thing.

Not saying that this is or is not a desperate move though. It could be, but I wouldn’t say that is their definite reason for the decision.
