I want to be treated like one of your customers and not a potential victim/chump
I want to pay a fair amount for content (and I’m willing to do it up front) like I always have and not be treated like a money sink with promises that it will mean more stuff (it won’t - and you’ve already shown us that it won’t)….
I don’t want the game quality drop that is sure to come with this new emphasis/focus on money making strategies that just turn the game into a lifeless grind so that you can turn that money into yet another lifeless grind the next season, and the one after that…and after that one….with little improvement to the game itself
I don’t want the game quality drop that is sure to come thanks to the influx of players that know that regardless of what they do they can have a new account in seconds
I dont want to be treated like I’m an inferior customer simply because I fall in the “these guys aren’t buying into the bs we’re giving them” bin……not when I’ve been here from the beginning, keeping your dwindling view counts alive (the game in general and the league), “ignoring” your now infamous and numerous internal transgressions, bought merchandise, etc etc
All I want…literally the only thing…is for you to treat me like someone who supports your work because it’s WORTH it……and not because you see a cash grab opportunity……make a good game….I’ll pay for it
Im not a doomer…but I will call a spade a spade….and this monetization policy is exactly what it is in every other franchise that has it….a bs cash grab
It’s insulting
And just to further emphasize that I’m not suddenly a “doomer”…lve been saying this all along
as of right now all I’ve seen is far faaaaaar more money for the same stuff we had……so they either think it’s just that much more valuable…or it’s just a cash grab and they think I’m gullible
Hell for 12 years I used to pay them on a monthly basis….it meant something….I have no issue PAYING money….this isn’t that….it’s literally “hey we could make more if we just lied to them”
I can understand that many players want to experience many features of the game, even if it’s just the cosmetics, without being locked out behind an expensive paywall or having to ‘no-life’ the game. As do I. Some people don’t have the time or the money, or they don’t want to spend 20-40 dollars each time to enjoy a couple new things out of a set of products. I would think that is understandable. (Hell, I play TCGs and I think this)
But I think the developers are doing what is working for a majority of other companies and players. They want to be competitive and make money, which is understandable. We may not like those other games and it’s pay models, I’ve never been drawn to it. But I still have to admit that the market has proven that it is something that appeals to a lot players, if not the majority of players in this generation. So, it must be doing something right and maybe it’s something that I or the rest of us needs to cope with and just try it out and see (particularly myself, I’ve never played those f2p games with battle passes yet). As it comes, we should give our critiques and the cliché, “vote with our wallets”, hopefully it makes a difference.
I don’t think the quality will drop though, other games have proven to maintain relative quality, especially when being paid. There shouldn’t be any excuse for them to do so. If it does, I would think then it is less about the monetization methods and more on the developers and company itself doing poor work. I would imagine they would change it if players aren’t satisfied (I hope) with how the game is going. After all, they changed the way the game is now after players since the start have asked for story modes and more content and now they have a system to implement it. So, while I’m uncertain about the future I am trying to remain optimistic that I can enjoy the new things they bring and I hope to at least have access to the bare minimum that lets me play because I like the game I too don’t want to be “left out”.
What Blizzard see us as, is a big bag of money with legs. And all they want is to grab hold on that bag. They don’t care what method they need to apply to get hold of said bag of money, morals and all that is secondary.
There is their love for money, and how to grab hold of it. This is why you don’t take a company like Blizzard seriously in the world of gaming. They’re not the ones that will push the envelope of gaming forward and ensure that games they make push the boundaries of what is possible for gaming. They just leech money, and that’s about it.
Their motivations on reasoning for doing so is less than completely transparent:
And all of this starts out with an apology to OW1 players for neglecting them and not communicating, only to promise them a slow drip feed of content that doesn’t even match what we would have had if OW1 never stopped receiving support.
oh you beat me to it…was exactly the link (and part) i was looking for…
but it goes beyond that…
can start with “free” to play…the title itself is already disingenuous…
it should be “free to play but dont expect to be able to access any of the little content we do add to the game…all of which will cost you way waaaaaaaaaaaay more than you would normally pay for any game out there”
That’s the wool being pulled over your eyes. The scope of Overwatch 2 by itself will be less than Overwatch 1, but will make more money. They will be able to put in less development effort for more money.
