A large chunk of Moira’s Damage comes from when the enemy team is far away from the action and she throws an orb in the mix while no-one on her team needs any heals.

It’s not a lock on by terminology. Mercy beam is a lock-on, it stays active when the attached ally is literally behind her.
I wonder why the visuals are different from the actual hitbox. If Blizzard wants Moira to be able to keep an infinite, 1 meter wide and 20 meter long beam fired, why does it look like it’s just a 10 cm wide beam? It would be kinda fair if Moira’s vision was at least somewhat compromised when using is as it should be used from a safe distance to recharge healing not to 1v1 in close quarters.
Thank you, best way its been summarized that I’ve seen.
Moria beam acts functionally exactly like Zarya beam but with a bigger hitbox. The animation is made so that the beam looks like it bends to hit the target at center mass but the beam works completely differently to Mercy heals/damage boots and old Sym.
Those beams could bend behind you when locked on, moria beam can’t.
I’ve got an idea then! Let’s change Ana so that she only regains ammo for her rifle when she lands two damage shots, otherwise it regens slowly over time. No reloading allowed.
I really cannot believe this issue continues to come up like once a week.
This is wrong, Moira’s beam functions exactly like Zarya’s does as far as calculating damage(well I think the tick rate may be different or something) aside from having a hitbox that is probably three times bigger.
Zarya’s is not a hitscan, it is a limited range Beam like Moira or Symmetra. Winston’s Telsa Cannon is AoE, meaning it can damage more than one object at a time.
moiras beam is essentially like zarya beam in a sense but a lot bigger than what is shown visually, however moira not being able to decloak a sombra tells us it’s lock on in some sense of how it actually works or else moira could decloak sombras.
and no zaryas beam is hitscan, just because it doesn’t go bang bang doesn’t mean it’s not hitscan.
there’s a lot of things that’s actually hitscan but you wouldn’t know it was because it doesn’t follow the norm of what you would think is hitscan,
hitscan is essentially just a fancy word for instant, or no travel time.
all these threads whining about this and discussin whether or not its lock on…
when nobody ever talks about what should be done with it, what is the supposed problem? that she doesnt need awesome aim? are you that pathetic and insecure that you cant stomach being beaten by that?
It’s not so much as it being a lock on as it is a special detection mechanic unique to Sombra.
Moria has infinite ammo and a fat beam. IF the beam was allowed to decloak Sombra she would be instantly countered and useless with a Moira on the field. She’d just spin with her grasp and boom! Sombra.
I can’t say that I know how things are programmed but seems more likely Sombra has added code to specifically protect her against this.
Symm couldn’t lock-on to a cloaked Sombra back in the day either.
i think it has some weird lock on property that prevents her from decloaking sombra but that’s pretty much as far as that goes, don’t really think it’s intentional but i guess it could be?
as for moira being able to instantly counter sombra as a spy checker wouldn’t d.va be the same thing then? she has infinite shotgun pellets.
also if we are continuing this thought that if you have unlimited ammo you shouldn’t be able to decloak sombra, what constitutes as too much of a spy checker tool then? or is the range disadvantage too big of an issue for a character like brig or rein or any of those or if zarya just casually just take a quick spin even though she has ammo?
but i really don’t think it’s really that much of a thing.
The pellets spread really fast and D.Va is slowed like crazy so it isn’t exactly the same thing. Plus D.Va is a tank and shouldn’t have the luxury of spinning around in the middle of her team.
Beams also don’t leave any gaps like shot gun fire can.
On a fun note you can do this with Bastion. You just can’t do it often since Bastion needs to be pressuring the front line or risk giving the enemy enough room to snipe him.
Pretty much this, most characters are limited by range, ammo, or weapon spread to do it effectively.
Edit: I actually enjoy using Winston as a counter to Sombra since his bubble is great for breaking Hacks, he can jump into the backline really fast, and his AoE damage does decloak Sombra. So he’s good at limited range Sombra checks
i’m just gonna say this, look at the new ptr patch updates.
Something new was released? Or are you talking about how Blizz and Daddy Jeff Curb Stomped Sombra?
the ptr just got patched about 2 minutes ago, they nerfed sym and zarya beams.
nerfed sigma hyperspheres and buffed sigma rock.
i can write down what it says if you want?
Nah nah I got to go see this.
I’m already upset though. This is not welcomed news Renegade, not welcomed at all.
come back to me and share your thoughts, i wanna hear it.
Imagine her shooting a Coalescence that is purple and 20 meters in range. That thickness. That is what her damage beam hitbox is.
If it hits any part of an opponent that means it is doing damage to them, and the visual is that the beam “bends” to their center of mass. Essentially they just chose to make it look visually more pleasing than it would be otherwise.
If you test it, it behaves in the exact same way that Symmetra and Zarya’s primaries do. Set your crosshair to max gap as a circle . Also, if an enemy gets between you and your target the beam will damage them instead just like a normal beam would. This doesn’t happen with an actual lock on.
it isnt a fat zarya beam hunny and itll never be, stop using videos from youtubers like btc
Can you toss me a link? I’m not seeing the Patch Notes.
