Middle Eastern Players connected to EU servers

So there is 2 weird problem for ow people that are very opposite together After ME (middle east) servers (in Bahrain) got online:

  1. one is that many players in ME has more latency than EU servers (like me from IR.IRAN having 250 ping for ME -in the first days of ME launch it was 150- and 115 with EU) and we are talking about it here:
[Main Thread] Middle East Servers - High Latency

  2. and one is that many people in ME connect to EU servers instead (no matter their latency is High or low to ME servers)

and this is what we discuss here

*I created this thread acording to the Blizzard agent Drakuloth’s suggestion.

Hey there Noble,

I did a comparative report between your connection and other users on the same service provider. So far, most of their users average 90-100 latency. This means that the others users may not be experiencing the same behavior, and it may be something we want to troubleshoot instead.

Lets try this:

  1. Restart the computer, and power cycle the network
  2. Check the PC for any “network optimization” or “game boosting” software and temporarily disable or uninstall it
  3. Check with the Internet Service Provider and ask them for assistance updating device firmware

Let us know if there are any improvements after these instructions!

tnx for replying

number 1 and 2 are already done and nothing happens

number 3 is done and the Internet Service Provider says that fiber cable to south Arab countries is corrupted for now and those counties are fixing it

but the ping before this thing happens to me servers was 150 and that is not good… i dont know maybe they didnt get to path route to these servers…

we should wait…

I noticed something very important!

see i play some games that have ME servers too and their ping is not high!

for example I play DOTA 2 in Dubai server and the latency is 60, so the connection is good for this game but ow ME servers are in Bahrain west of Dubai.

I dont know maybe there is a clue here that whats the problem and maybe its not for any fiber cutting to south countries or…

A post was split to a new topic: Biopingu - Latency Issue

Noble,

I appreciate you creating the new thread for me! That clue unfortunately isn’t extremely useful, since you are going to be connecting to different game servers using different peers. That said, I do have some other things I’m interested in. Do you notice any pattern for when the games are on one server or another? For instance - are you getting the games on the Middle Eastern servers only at certain times of day, or are you getting them randomly? If it’s a specific time, what times of day, and what days of the week? What times and days are you playing when you end up on the European servers?

you’re welcome, my duty

I said and say that i always end up on EU servers, never been on ME normally,

when the ME servers went live I was very surprised and happy so I went to battle net and didn’t see any new region in the app, then i realized its a server in EU region (that’s good) so i starting finding games and the ping was like before (115)…

Then! I found that I’m still on EU servers (and I am still) so i went to custom games, created a game and set it to Bahrain servers… and the ping was 140~160 (It should have been very lower like 40~60), later days till now it went up to 230~260 and It is now still (some times I create a custom game and goes 150 ping again, but its rare!)…

I usually play OW and my other games everyday, OW is always on EU servers

(another thing I must tell you, that the game Fortnite Me servers are on Bahrain too, the ping for we Iranians to there was 30~60 (although i dont play that game) until the fiber cable problem occurred and fortnite latency went up to 130~200, they have still this problem I think, must be relative to OW servers too)

BTW i dont know why some ME game servers are in Bahrain or UAE! Oman is a country near and at the center of all roads, has good relations with everyone, even the UAE is better  (says smart engineer NOBLE )
and another thing is, that in early days of Fortnite Me servers launch, the ping was high like +100 and Iranian service providers routed the path so it went fine and good like 30~60, for that I say the fiber connection problem didn’t let them to get it right (maybe?!)

sorry for my worst English!

Hi there.
im living in middle east like others the ping in ME still the same i think we should wait for those cable that was broke to fixed…

Hey folks,

We have heard some reports of a broken cable which may be causing increased latency in the area, as you two suggest. It’s possible that this problem will resolve itself, but it will require some digging to be sure, and we’ll need to get tests from more players in the middle east to find out why it’s happening. Noble, can you please post the IP address you’re getting for the Bahrain server in the thread? I looked over your old tests and unfortunately most of the test is blocked by the Internet Service Providers so we cannot see what IP address you’re going to.

I can’t speak to why the servers are where they are - it may have to do with where players are located, not just the population of the area. The developers are the only ones with that level of insight into data.

Finally some helpful information.
The matchmaking connected alot of european players to the mes1 servers (specially in the morning here in germany). Met some people on Reddit and the Overwatch Forum (US, UK and Ger), also my friends had the same issue. The Ping is around 150ms from europe. I traced the connection to the following IP last week: 157.175.48.37. This was a mes1 Server in a custom match. The problems start with the IP 150.222.243.180, wich must be suprisingly seattle.

tnx for ongoing support guys

I wanted to give you a screenshot from the ctrl+shift+n thing in the game, but the forum doesn’t let me post links
so the numbers shown in a custom match I’ve made with Bahrain servers are:

Noble,

Perfect, let’s use that MES1 IP to run the winMTR - run it to 15.185.37.198 when you are ont he wrong server. We need to see what the ping gets to while you’re on the wrong server groups and what nodes you’re going through. Same deal for @Moppel.

Run the test for a game you’re on the wrong server, export it, open the export, and paste it into your next reply. If you have problems with posting it due to a link error, go ahead and copy paste this into your next post, and replace “WinMTR goes here” with your test.

Any news regarding the cable? Just played on mes1 and it’s barely playable. High ping and I feel that I have to leave the voice chat since people only seem to speak Arabian there.

the cable is still the same no news…

Noble,

That test takes a very, very long route to get to the middle eastern servers. We also cannot see the entire test because your ISP is blocking most of it. (This is normal behavior, especially when the internet in an area is getting overloaded, because it helps prevent DDoS attacks.) Let’s see if we can bypass this problem. We’re going to use the same IP address, but this time, use a traceroute instead. This should hopefully let us see the blocked parts of the test to see where all the problems start.

Thanks for the useful info, here is the traceroute (I think they blocked most of it too! and nothing changed)
