Biopingu - Latency Issue

I am really glad to see this post. I am an EU player (The Netherlands) and I live very close to Amsterdam where I believe blizzard has a server. Normally my latency is 20 or below. However, around 1 out of 10 games I get randomly put in the ME server and have 170-180 latency, making playing these games terrible. It is happening to friends of mine playing from the Netherlands as well so it is not just my computer/settings. A fix would be greatly appreciated since 180ms games are not very enjoyable :frowning:

The same thing happens to some of my games. I play from London/UK and my normal latency is 25. Some of my matches have 130+ latency and the network info shows mes1.

Biopingu,

I moved you to your own thread because you were reporting the opposite issue as the other player was. We can try to investigate this problem too, but we’ll need some information.

To do this, let’s have you get the IP from your netherlands server from the netgraph (more information at this article.) Write it down somewhere, then run through the rest of the steps in the article when you have a game with bad ping on the ME server. If we run the test to the Netherlands server while you’re on the wrong server, we may discover some kind of issue happening only when you’re headed to the wrong place.

Location: London/UK
ISP: BT
Game mode: Competitive
In-game latency: 130-140
Traceroute pastebin: frstR9Bj

It took a while before the bug occured again, but it finally happend again just now. 160ms ping so i started up the winMTR program and the results re posted down below. I was connected to the middle east server instead of the amsterdam one.

Biopingu,

The test doesn’t show any high latency on the way to that server, oddly. If it’s only happening once in a great while, it’s possible that it’s doing that because it’s the best match available. It’s common for players to get a match on an odd server once in a while becuase the matchmaker has to juggle a lot of different things - it’s only unexpected if it’s happening very often.

I think i figured out it only happens when it gets later at night, when there will be less people online. I kinda understand why it switches servers to keep games filled but i would like an option to wait longer instead of being switched since the server switch means an almost guaranteed loss, and absolutely a guaranteed “unfun” game :frowning:

Biopingu,

Unfortunately on these forums we don’t field suggestions since we are not developers. Since you’d like to change an existing mechanic, I’d suggest posting in #general-discussion instead.
