That’s exactly how I feel about it. Especially with this recent event, where I feel as though they really didn’t go back far enough for it to be of significant worth anyway
In the same way I don’t need to be a five star world renown chef to know if a meal tastes bad, I don’t need to be a professional writer to know terrible writing when I see it. Sure, you are more than welcome to your opinion that he’s a good writer, but if a majority of the community thinks he’s bad it’s probably for a reason.

Which I never said you had to be? You can give an opinion on something it doesn’t mean your opinion is fact. Very unique thing. Also, I doubt you have a majority standing given there are millions of players and it is impossible to get everyone’s opinions. You don’t know what any one else thinks, you cannot speak for everyone. Ok? Very simple ideal.
If I say the majority of people in your family hate you, and i basis this off of two or three people in a sample size. is it right? of course not.
He seems like the kind of person I’d want to hang out with.
But the writing for the game - especially in storm rising is exceptionally poor. Seems he’s more into throwing in a bunch of b-movie grade throwaway one liners and making Tracer seem like a moron than writing something actually decent. He doesn’t seem to understand that words mean something.
It’s more about making things sound cool, even if they start leading to plot holes.

I don’t think Chu did anything to blow people’s minds with his writing. He didn’t do anything to Tracer other than make her gay. Tracer was already a concept before Overwatch was Overwatch. Coincidentally the other gay (or bi) character, Soldier 76, was also already an established concept and again, Chu just gay’d him with his pen. Is that really creative writing?
I think his level of writing is fine for some side action in a non-story oriented game. It’s like an appetizer to a meal. You don’t need it, but hey, it’s there.

in all honesty is seems like you’re underplaying any and all thing Chu has done so far. Say what you will but outside of this constant gay thing you bring up he’s managed to at the very least flesh out personalities for a few characters and that’s much more then the game’s probably had since release.
As for his level of writing, what is his level of writing? He’s the lead writer for Overwatch, alright.Hired by one of the bigger companies out there. I’m sure his level is just fine.
Have we seen tons and tons of what he’s capable of? No, but he’s likely a far better writer than ‘just gaying’ characters.
Also to touch back on something, there’s far more in what he’s done for the characters then just flipping some gay switch. Character concepts were not so much established as they were just on a sheet, what the writer does with what’s on paper is what matters and Chu is slowly but surely turning the story into something interesting.
This comparision is like saying “well that ostrich flies better than a cow!”

The MW trilogy is a good story same with trearch first two black ops series. Then you have zombies lore. Also, Chu doesn’t have a terrible deadly to release story like trearc. Who I might add had to finish Mw3 story and create one for Black ops 2. In black ops 3 the specialist have as much or more lore than overwatch heroes. I don’t play Cod but disrespecting it writing and story.

I never claimed to speak for anyone else nor that I knew every players opinion on his writing. I’m sure there’s a good chunk of the player base that couldn’t care less about the lore. However, there’s also a good chunk that do and most people in that category think he’s a bad writer. Don’t believe me?
Just look at the replies in this thread.
Check the story forum. There have been several threads about Chu’s writing and the majority opinion is that he’s not good.
If you like his writing that’s fine. You’re more than entitled to that opinion, but the reality is that most people don’t think he’s doing a good job - or any job for that matter given how painfully slow the story is progressing. That’s not just my opinion. It’s many people’s opinion too.

very very very very very slowly and over that slow expanse of time it’ll be dreadly boring and filled with cliffhangers and pretty faces that have little to no character build up in addition to very sparse lore progression if at all.

And stolen from other works of fiction. care to elaborate on that. Also, character trooping has been a thing for a long time so I don’t see how that’s an issue. Writing a cliched story that why we have the phrase nothing is original anymore.
The omnic crisis is just terminator with a happy ending. First of terminator the first movie sends the terminator from the future into the past. Their is no hint that overwatch has time-traveling technology. Take a pick regarding race and prejudice okay lets see X men, but again plots arent that original. Example Noah Ark takes inspiration from other flood stories that pre date it.
Cattywampus is when something is not lined up or not arranged correctly.

Lore gona be cut and slowed down by devs, because its not integral part to spend cash on, and still gona do its work “hook players into story” and make them wait for new stuff. (like comic was this event is nowhere to be seen)
I think chu works for long time there and quality lore is last thing i expect now. Its gona be another one short story with something about haracter that will make people angry (soldier stuff) because its gona be done FAR TO LATE. Mayby if they would handle it right, like hinted some stuff before that would be less negative outcome, but non the less, the longer they hold lore the more it gona make people angry.

I guess he taught of terminator movie if he wouldnt be sent to the past ( just robot uprising, and it ended bad while in overwatch it ended good)
Overwatch does have time travel (dosent really relate to this) Tracer did have some problems with it until Winston make the divice for her, she literaly time travels when you recall in the game
