Mercy's chain beam heals

let’s start.

with the many things mercy mains/players complain about mercy, this one is definitely overlooked at, Chain heals during valkyrie.

(chain heals are the AoE heals that players get without being the beam target)

I cannot express enough how much I despise this feature, it literally makes her easier than she already is.
I’ll explain furthermore, Mercy’s best skill is Decision making. right next to the GA skills (such as super jump)
chain beams just take away that skill and leave with a spectator mode ultimate.

here are the other healers’ skills (not all of them)

Ana and zen’s skill is mostly aim
Lucio is mechanical skill and timing with the ult
moria is tracking and resource
and so on.

Last time I checked:
Ana’s ultimate doesn’t give her aimbot
Lucio’s ultimate doesn’t buff his AoE heals or his damage
Moria doesn’t get coalescence that aims from itself

the problem with valkyrie is that it takes away the mercy’s skill to CHOOSE who to heal, IE: flicking

that is one of her very few available skills that she has, and valkyrie just takes it away, not only for a long time. but mediocrely as well.
Mercy already has amazing mobility during valkyrie, what’s the point of it If I can float in one place and holding LM?

Chain heals should either be removed or nerfed to 20-40 HPS, while the main heal beam should be buffed to 70 or 80 HPS.

because right now healing with valkyrie makes me feel like an off-brand transcendence, not only this will make her ultimate more skill-based, but unique as well.

however, chain DAMAGE BOOST shouldn’t be touched. since damage boost shouldn’t be buffed for the main beam target.

this is one of the many problems with the current mercy (just because I said “problems” doesn’t mean she’s overly underpowered [which she kinda is]) I think this would be a great start to improve mercy without bringing back Moth meta or making the other healers not viable

To an extent, I think there still is decision-making, even with the chain heals. Ex: you can stick your beam on one person and leave it there and have no guarantee of it affecting most/all of your team. OR You can make a conscious effort to keep your beam connected to whoever ensures the beam chains to as many people as possible. In addition, as few people use it, there’s the shot-calling aspect of being able to fly anywhere and choosing when to release your beam to deal with a sniper for example.

“moira’s skill is tracking” yeah right

I have gotten some gameplays where I had to choose where to put my beam, but that is only because our Mccree was alone in high ground.

I imagine mercy’s valkyrie as quick-acting, with fast reaction time to WHO NEEDS THIS 70-80 HPS RIGHT NOW, with the punishment of not giving the other allies enough healing.

she has the mobility to keep giving everyone that great amount of healing in a short period of time, instead of asking them to be in one circle so everyone gets healed, wasn’t this one of the things people complained about, mercy being too team reliant?

Oh god pls no; do not weaken the chainheals!
Blieve it or not I’ve had friends who’ve complained about not being healed during Valkyrie because they only saw that the beam was going to someone else and didn’t see the chain to themselves or even completely forgot about the chaining, I do not want that number of people to increase because of the chain actually weakening the heals.

But then again it would be interesting if she had stronger mainheals and during the ultimate the heals would weaken based on how many allies are receiving it? I don’t like that idea but it’s better than automatically having weakened heals during Valkyrie.

But I do agree Valkyrie sometimes feels like spectator mode.

one of the things mercy mains do (including me) is that we don’t really put much emphasis on targeting each ally with the main beam because we rely on the chain beams, this change will also force you to try to give everyone that quality amount of heals, also making mercy more of a threat.

as in her ultimate, but as for her secondary fire, I really don’t want to argue about that and change the subject lol.

I really don’t care about making something “easier” since almost all ultimates are easy to use. I just find the revamped ultimate lazy and unoriginal.

they’re easy to use, sometimes as easy as just clicking Q, but the difficult part is WHEN do you click that button, however mercy is an exception, timing doesnt matter because her ultimate lasts a very long time.

this sounds quite a bit like BigMainLittleChains

i just read ur post, i also loved critical care : )

Much appreciated, it is rare for me to get a non-negative response from certain individuals

I do sometime feel bad though, but you do sometimes give a bad impression (impression, not your true self) to people. I’d really like to see you elaborate more on certain situations ^^

Been talking about this for ages. Valkyrie is terribly designed around covering for skill, it severely clashes with Mercy’s base kit.

It’s not just chain beams, it also offers infinite ammo for pistol spam, infinite flight to cover for you position and infinite health regen to cover for your survival.

Chains beams are the worst though, it should be deleted, but I’ll take the next best option (nerf chains, buff main).

Phew, you’re not kidding, and that is the perfect thing to say what Mercy is.

It’s a constant surroundings check the entire game.

I disagree though. It’d be nice if your team stayed together, but they often don’t. It’s much of the same that you mentioned before.

It’s constantly looking at your targets to figure out which one can maximize the links. It’s taking in everything going on to see when you can damage boost everyone to burn enemies down faster before needing to swap back to healing. Or, maybe you need to take other matters into your hands and rez someone or gun down a target, while hoping your team can hold out when you get this done real quick.

Mercy’s Ult definitely puts her in a mode of, “Everything is just better,” but getting full value from it is like… Alright, you can either potato or try to activate your third eye.

I guess the core issue with Mercy is you can default potato and get some value out of her, or try super hard doing things while others will speculate you were just being a potato the entire time.

u were on my mind while writing this btw since you opposed the idea, but I had to brainstorm for it to be a full topic.

I just want mercy to have more skill cap, and yes, its possible.

Honestly the implications behind this statement and the spelling of the hero in question really made me stop reading and wonder if this was a very patient bait post.

you’re the second person to comment on this, i meant her ultimate.
can we please focus on the main topic?

I think even the weaker chain beams are not right for Mercy, but I’ll take what I can get. It’s certainly better than full on spectator mode chain beams.

I’m sick of reworking heros all the time. No, no more changes.
Number adjustments? Yes.
Reworks, even if they’re just small? No.
