They already did a complete new ability button for Symmetra 3.0, the āFā interact key for using her teleporter. They also used it for the small reworks for Torbjƶrn and Sombra. So I dont see a problem making an āRā ability for Mercy only, maybe even using it for other heroes or new heroes later on too.
Yes, because she currently doesnāt have a reload on her staff so the āRā key is unused. The Devs said they tried this on other heroes with no reload before like Reinheart and Hanzo while reworking him so itās possible for Mercy!

Instead of R, it could be Melee that activates it. Melee would offer the same reward at the cost of quickly coming out of cover. Melee would be more friendly to console players, too, right?
Instead of holding R (or Melee) down, itās just a button press, and for a Moira/DVa-type resource, you simply release the heal to stop spending instead of the button.
I personally would rather her have a HoT effect on staff Melee. Would offer her a boost to single target, as well as give a little bit of multi healing outside of her ult. Let the HoT be placed on herself if she melees an enemy with the staff.
I also think it would be cool to see her abilities change based on her weapons. Her regular dash and res, with a Melee/R boost/HoT while using her staff. And something offensive for Shift and/or E while using her gun. Letās say, a ground-flying sprint for shift and a single double magazine that shoots 1.5-2x fast or something for E. (Iām bad at making abilities.)
An additional end result there would be more viability in Deathmatch, kind of like Anaās self ult. As it is, Mercyās abilities are 100% useless in that gamemode. At the very least something should change for her there.

Thereās no reason for Lucio to monipolize speed. I would make mercy have a third beam form of fire that was a solo target 30% speed boost.
Or make dmg boost āperformance boostā and add a 15% speed boost to it.
Making her more impactful in her aggro choices since she would not just control the sustain of her ally, but their maximum movement potential.
She has gaā¦she has movementā¦yet offers allies none of this. Why? Sheās the sole hero designed for it.
That could be cool, as if she has her own Zen harmony orb to throw out for a bit. Would allow her to choose from enhancing her single target output or having a bit of multi target healing, would certainly increase her decision making.

AT this point though I feel like they are purposefully ignoring Mercy/supports at this point. With all the recent changes and their response to major complaints, itās pretty clear they saw how bad Mercy was. But they probably donāt want to make any changes until OW 2 is my guess. :((
to OP: I personally would not want to see such an ability that not only overcomplicates her kit, but also makes what I feel to be the worst ultimate sheās ever had in the existence of her time in the game, worse. Ergo, outside of a flat 55-60hp buff no questions asked, I hope such a change to her healing or button layout is never made to her current abilities.
Actually, remove damage boost because itās a problematic ability that messes up break-points and creates co-dependent and cheeky combos (Ashemercy, pharmercy etc.) and give her and alternate fire that is active and skill based.
Also boost Valkyrie pistol damage from 20 to 25.

Thats true but Valk is the only thing that really enables battle Mercy. In fact Iād rather they make Valk her E but remove chain beams and focus on the single target healing boost and unlimited ammo/movement so you can dive those pesky little Widows. I know you still can with superjump but it still only works if allies are right below her
This would also make Mercy a lot better in higher ranks, while not affecting lower Ranks as much as a falt HPS buff would, which is exactly what she needs. I dig it.

I really like the idea of giiving Mercy another ability to increase her utility, but it would make a lot more sense to have it be a 4 sec boost on a 10 sec cooldown rather than a resource bar. Having a resource bound to a reload/interact button would be very difficult to manage on a controller. It would require you to take your hand off the Right stick way too long, making it virtually impossible to aim for the duration of the ability.
Tbf, they could code it/add an option for it to stay on until tapped again.

Like default GA, tap once and she go tap again while GAās active and she go no mo.
They could also swap one of her beams to a simple on/off button press and move the resource to a trigger/bumper for console only. Tho that imo should be a player option.
I do agree that if it is only a press+hold it wonāt function too well on console.

New ability - R
Self Boost: Upon activating, Mercyās primary heals for 60 HPS and her secondary fire provides +60% movement speed. Lasts for 6 seconds. Cooldown starts after the ability is over.
Cooldown: 10 seconds.
Also give her independent mobility.
