Mercy: History Repeats Itself

I just noticed a pattern…

Forums, Reddit and GM Mercy players: Endless posts chock full of ideas on balancing, not all great but some have popular support…

Devs: change her in such a way that NOBODY likes because… why the heck not!?

Community: Complains to revert…

Devs: Say they’ll revert if it doesn’t work… it DOESN’T work! Do they revert? No! They FREAKING double down!

Mercy endures scores of hate for several months further making her name anathema amongst the community…

Y’know what, screw it, I’m becoming an Ana/Kiriko main, they seem to live generally carefree lives as far as balance notes are concerned!

I’m quitting after I finish the BP3. It’s the Mercy change on top of other things. It’s time for me to move onto other games.

Don’t forget the nerfs that try to “fix” Mercy never address the actual root cause of her issues, fail to actually fix anything, and only thing they ever actually accomplish is lowering Mercy’s fun factor.

Also: any complaints about Mercy becoming less fun to play get dismissed as “not important,” and the unfun changes that failed to do what the devs intended them to do never get reverted.

It was clearly the necessity the moment 5v5 went out. But then Sojourn came to life…
They’ll eventually nerf Sojourn and solve that problem but they will of course forget to revert any nerfs to any heroes that were enabled by Sojourn.

Come to the Bap side! there’s less of us here. :eyes:

I’ve actually been playing a lot of Bap lately. I initially avoided him because I felt the burst fire was janky but once you get used to it… Oh wow, is all I can say! O.O

Hey, at least this time they didn’t make a thread to compile all the comments, only to never acknowledge any of them.

This time they’re slightly more transparent, they’re essentially saying “yeah just deal with it and get used to it”

As opposed to

“We hear you :heart_decoration: :pensive: and we’d love to iterate on this together, your voice matters!
Please direct yourself to our feedback area → a literal shredder

They took the “don’t give me hope” approach.

Become a Moira main. She has high survivability and great damage. To play her properly just throw damage orb on cooldown and maybe use heal orb to burst heal a squishy with left click. Most of the time just left click healing is good enough for sustain.

As you get better with Moira, you will fine-tune when you absolutely need to heal yourself with heal orb or just right click to heal yourself. In a team fight, never just hold down left click, you need to cycle it with damage. Something like 4 seconds of healing and 2 seconds of damaging is good.

Try to use damage orb as much as possible, it is her best ability. It is hands-down best thrown at the supports over and over again.

It genuinely does feel like the devs are stubbornly intent on doing literally anything other than listening to Mercy players. It doesn’t matter how senseless a change is and even if everyone else suffers too, unhappy moths is an automatic success in their eyes.

But yes, I highly recommend maining Ana and it looks like Kiri is going to be the same. You’ll never have your fun damaged, you’ll have some carry ability, and you might fall out of meta sometimes, but you’ll still always be decent at least.

Yo, I understand that feeling. I kinda hate how to land it but it feels good when you can save your teammates with it. That’s why I also try not to use my immortality shield early.

But the fun of other players, especially DPS players, is often the main catalyst for Mercy changes.

It’s not because she’s more powerful than other supports, but because someone didn’t find some Mercy mechanic fun.

The message is clear:

Their fun > Mercy player’s fun

I mean heck they could’ve at least address the core problem with Mercy that literally everybody is complaining about and that is her pocketing play-style, that’s the main problem, but they decided to just completely go left field and only address like one half of the issue.

And even then, their changes did absolutely nothing for Mercy, and they admitted that it did absolutely nothing to her, so what’s the point of keeping the changes then? Like their logic makes no sense half of the time and it contradicts one another.

And I also want to say that I’m not saying Mercy didn’t deserve a movement nerf, but they never fixed the core problem with her with these changes, they just made it worse and now your survivability doesn’t depend on how you react, it’s just if you are healing somebody now, which is A: just less fun in general, B: lowering her skill requirements more than it needed, and C: Makes pocketing even more a need, especially on Tanks.

They do love their left fields at Blizzard, that extra five ammo pretty much had everyone scratching their heads. Not to mention, she’s now an even harder pocket healer than before.

I’m honestly the worst with immortality as I use it mostly for duels. Nothing gives me more glee than when a DPS challenges me to a duel and I drop immo, I can almost feel the despair in their eyes.

Let’s not pretend the movement wasn’t a problem too. She’s fine with a 2.5 GA cooldown.

No, I’m sorry, but no.

Generalizing people based off a character they main in a video game… Congrats on reaching a whole new level of pathetic.

brudda, u do realise that this place alone wants ana dead like 11 out of 12 months.
you forget all the ana threads from the last 3yrs alone? not to mention granny wasnt even meta, they just hating xD

That’s my point exactly, Ana can be hated more than anything and yet the design team will never shake the boat with her patch notes overly much. Plus, she’s fun in her own right.

Yep.

I don’t think they have much respect for any of their players, but it definitely seems like they have absolutely none for Mercy players.

Last time they made toxic hero favoritism “frustration nerfs” to Mercy she suffered 1,5 years from negligence until she got at least somewhat compensated compared to her previous state. It is no wonder at all why they’re scared of the devs trashing their favorite hero for no reason and hence why the reaction to any potentially negative changes to her is extremely hostile. They created this environment with these actions back then
