[Mei-gathread] Does Mei feels balanced and underpowered at the same time?

If her bugs would be fixed, she could be viable - I personally like the idea of your Team seeing the blueprint of your wall and reducing her damage falloff a bit. I tried playing her in comp yesterday but one Orisa shield is enough to make me switch, if no one is destroying it.

Edit:
Nvm. It’s not a bug. My bad.

Well, ATM feels pretty balanced and more solid than before, but having bugs fixed would be very welcome because she will make Mei players and Mei-ns rage much less and we would have more possibilities to win a match using her

Thinking about it i think all teammates should see the blueprint of what “builder” heroes are going to place: for example Mei for the wall, Thorb for the turret, Sym for the portal, ecc

Mei seems to be in a good place now.

But the advent of Brigitte and with her, a army of Junkrats to deal with her will not favor Mei very well.

Im picking up Zarya again to deal with those rats, if he wants to spam my team with nades, atleast he will meet a 100% energy Zarya once he shows his cowardly face.

Overall Mei feel’s strong as long as her hard-counters is not in the match, namely Junkrat, WM, Hanzo and Pharah. Darn… I need to learn D.Va to.

How well Mei synergizes with Lucio and Zarya? BBTW my worst nightmare is to find in comp a player who can toast me using Spamrat, with a very good Tracer/Genji and a Brigitte

Another minor “buff” idea just because… Place the icewall behind targets you are aiming at.

No more need to jump and try to get into odd angles to place a wall on the ground where you want it when trying to pin an enemy… Just aim at them and the game’ll place it a close distance behind them when you click to plant the wall.

Im mad about the Hanzo changes. His arrows are almost hitscan now and don’t have any damage falloff - so why does Mei? They didn’t wanted to give Mei mobility cause they said they didn’t want every character to have it - Hanzo gets a 4(?) second leap, which is btw another ability to get out of Blizzard.

Im really mad

I made a separate thread about this, but I thought I should post it in here as well:

When you’re playing Mei and are inside Cryo-Freeze, it’s often hard to see where an enemy positions around or near your ice block. You can either look around and see where the enemy is, or you can guess it and try to aim there.

I’d like to suggest that the ice should become slightly transparent for Mei if it’s in the way of her camera (simmilar to Moira’s ultimate changes).
This way it would be easier to see and already aim at an enemy, who’s camping your ice block, at the same time.

Thoughts on that?

Hanzo is designed to be a sniper. Mei not.
In fact, this is why she has fall-off damage on her secondary fire. Because she could snipe with it.
The same thing counts for McCree.

So where is the problem with making her a sniper? It’s not like her secondary is suuuuper hard to land and should be rewarded with more than 22hp.

This wasn’t possible even for the wall because of limitations of the game engine

Because thats not her role in the game.
Mei is a close to midrange fighter. She’s all about crowd control, and not killing enemies from a safe distance.

The developers want players to use her primary fire more, so they nerfed the secondary fire and buffed the primary in the beta.

This is one of main reasons of the recent buffs: she needed to perform better at medium to close range, so they increased her DPS by reducing the cost of icicles.
Also they buffed the primary fire making the slow effect disappear after 1,5 seconds instead of 1 second, and now it pierces throught enemies, this to make the primary fire a more effective crowd controll tool and to make her ultimate more efficient. BTW i updated again the main thread

What do you think about the actual state of Mei now?
Did you think that She needs another buff or She is in a good Place now?
Personally i think She Needs another buff (maybe small)

She is in better state than before.

I think her ultimate needs to be looked at, but other than that do I think she is a good state.

As an hybrid tank character do I think that Mei will never be on par with DPS’ers and tanks. Compared to DPS’ers lacks Mei range, damage and mobility and compared to tanks lacks Mei health. I think this is the reason she will never be viable.

This right here is the issue. Why would Mei be useful if she can’t kill things? Defense heroes can’t do their job well if they can’t kill. Some say “area denial”. But before Junkrat had two bombs to be able to make his frags with and not die, he was a ‘throw pick’ too.
A character needs to effectively do one of three things in the game to be viable.
•Kill
•Block
•Heal
No real amount of “area denial” will really matter until you can completely shut down a path. And if Bastion and Junkrat can’t do it… it’s not realistically feasible.

Some might suggest “She can freeze for her team to kill” but with as long as it takes to freeze, why not just use a DPS and kill them yourself? She really needs to have her kit pushed to do one thing really well. Doing two and three things sub-par means she never has a real spot.

you are heavily underestimating how valuable area denial is if you have an aggressive team. I happened to get a highlight showcasing just this last night:

imgur,com/a/BkYfT0P
(replace the , with a . cant make the link trick work for some reason)
(rightclick -> showcontrols if you need to pause the video)
Unfortunately the highlight starts just a tad too late to show the wall being placed, but as you can see it puts their moira in a position where she cant heal unless she walks straight into our team.
their orisa has no choice but to get behind her shield but she cant walk further back meaning we can just walk in, she also won’t get any heals there. Even my iceblock works as area denial there, preventing orisa from even having a chance at running out while also blocking junkrats damage to my team

The rest of their team will try to run into the right room, putting them inside a small choke where damage will just be spammed into their faces.

Even in the worst case scenario, we’d “only” get the hog and orisa there while the rest regrouped properly inside the back room. in which case we’d be on the point and 6v4, all from a wall that at first glance hardly does anything. And that’s not even mentioning the panic factor that people get when a wall gets placed right underneath them there.

With literally any other character than mei you would be forced to deal with their entire team spamming from behind the shield there, and even if you manage to break it they could fall back

Seems like Cryo-Freeze is still bugged:

They never said they actually fixed it so… yeah.

But he did say they would fix this soon.
