Remember when OW1 had a huge marketing campaign? … This is nothing like that.

You are really taking Blizzard’s new “make the players market the game” strat to an absurd level, bud. You don’t have to hurt yourself shilling this hard in every single thread.

Why would I want the game to be less successful?

How does that help me?

Also “word of mouth” marketing is some of the most valuable marketing. So why would I want them to take a suboptimal marketing strategy?

Presumably they won’t… :man_shrugging:t2:

Because they are doing it by making players pay to market the game for them? And that’s really weird and dystopian, hence the immediate negative reaction from so many people?

Why would that be any different, morally, than just purchasing it directly from Blizzard, then they go spend those dollars on a marketing budget?

Pay Twitch streamers you don’t necessarily like*

Fixed that for you. We can’t even choose which ones to support jfc

The OW community is going to have to get used to having the majority of cosmetics hard locked behind paywalls like this with F2P coming soon.

Be ready for monthly Prime Gaming promotions, limited time things in the in-game store, more company cross over events (like Lego Bastion, but the cosmetics will cost money). Plus the yearly Blizzcon and frequent OWL legendary skins on top of that.

I 100% get why people are upset. I am kind of annoyed by this as well. As a hardcore cosmetic collector who has every skin except for Pink Mercy; I am now learning to accept the fact that I will not be able to earn every cosmetic in OW2. It will simply cost way too much to get them all in a F2P environment.

I have the money to get this Brig skin. But I am telling myself that I really do not need this as I never play Brig anyways. As a collector I must have this mind set going into OW2. Otherwise I’m just going to be frustrated all of the time knowing I can’t get every cosmetic.

I am going to get it and it is still scummy to me but Blizzard does not care about its players at all. Think anyone with 1 brain cell can see this.

I won’t, but I’ll advertise the game in a propper way - as it was handled so poorly Bliz makes the players advertise the game themselves. Via donations to Twitch streamers to artificially inflate the viewership numbers. Small indie company, they don’t have the money for marketing campaign anymore LOL.

The hype for this game is nonexistent. When you have to bribe streamers to play your game then you know you messed up. OW1 sold over 50 million copies yet it feels like it sold 50 copies with how few people actually care about its “sequel”.

i hate this reply woth a burning passion, people have all the rights to complain about a shoddy deal.
“don’t buy it” is already implicit when someone calls a product “a bad deal” ot adds nothing to the conversation

it’s pretty clear you’re trying hard to get forum mvp like wyomingmist

Nah I wouldn’t want it.

I just like playing my fantasy football version of game development.

While I agree, they do have a point. If few enough people are dumb enough to buy it while they get this massive backlash across all of their demographic (it’s not specific to the forums, and they knew this would be the case before but are clearly testing the water) then they’ll be forced to change tactic, to something less scummy/predatory.

To get forum MVP they’d have to do more than act as a corporate shill, lol. Wyomingmist has done a TON of work on this forum, acting as an actual community figure helping people over the years.

So true, please help me bring awareness by liking my post : Why disrespect small but regular ow streamers?

Hi, I love the brig skin. i’m a starcraft fan like most people and i really do want the skin
BUT i do not want to support a marketing platform like twitch.
Come on Blizz we should not have to feed your dogs.
i’d rather give my money to Charaity than this marketing scheme.

People are really going to have to get over not having every cosmetic item for free. The game is going F2P and some skins are going to be available for purchase. If people can’t handle an event that supports the games content creators designed to draw attention to the game. (which it desperately needs) I have no idea how they’ll handle the game selling a skin for their main hero on the shop after it officially launches
