Friendly reminder if you think you're bad at aiming

It’s not you, it’s the game.

Make sure these settings are set to these values (assuming you have a NVIDIA GPU) :

OVERRIDE HIGH DPI SCALING BEHAVIOR : ON
SCALING PERFORMED BY : APPLICATION

SETTINGS_V0.INI

under [Render:13]

add the line :

DesiredFrameRate = “600”

!!! /\ THE ABOVE SETTING IS VERY IMPORTANT /\ !!!

also add the lines below if you want a centered HUD like the one you’ve probably seen chazm use, only problem is you can’t change settings without resetting the left margin, so you’ll have to close the game, change the left margin back to 1, and then re-open the game to have your hud properly centered again. Kinda annoying if you often change settings, but worth it if you actually want to be able to see your health bar/ability cooldowns :

BroadcastMarginBottom = “1.000000”
BroadcastMarginLeft = “1.000000”
BroadcastMarginRight = “1.000000”
BroadcastMarginTop = “0.000000”

WINDOWS MOUSE SETTINGS

ENHANCE POINTER PRECISION : OFF

RIVATUNER

FRAMERATE LIMIT : HIGHEST CONSISTENT FRAMERATE YOUR GAME RUNS AT

(yes this step is important and RIVATUNER is well worth installing even if you don’t use it for any other games)

Video proof HERE for those who are skeptical that RTSS is the best overall method of framerate limiting.

MOUSE SETTINGS

DPI : 800
Rescale your sensitivity so your cm/360 is the same as it was before you changed your dpi

have fun finding out just how broken every hitscan hero in this game is once you have consistent tracking + flicks! Happy Headshotting!

Huh, thanks.

Why would I do this and then change something else to limit the max frame rate?

Also IIRC wouldn’t this create undue stress on my vidcard when it starts rendering things like static screens at 600 FPS?

Because the ingame fps limiter is hot garbage and doesn’t actually work properly, it hovers at ±a few fps (which shows up as a squiggly line in RIVATUNER which you do not want) which effectively gives you randomized input lag every frame (you can see this demonstrated if you look at the SIM value ingame when you have uncapped FPS). Most ingame framerate limiters behave similarly (i.e. badly) which is why tools like RIVATUNER exist.

It won’t be doing that because everything will be being rendered at the capped framerate you set in RIVATUNER, hence why I marked that step as important. Also if you’re wondering why I didn’t just cap the framerate in Nvidia Control Panel it’s because that cap has the same issues as the ingame one.

Would that really mess up someone’s aim? That error seems so low that it would be very hard to notice unless you have god like reaction time.

What are you going to right a paper to block all these settings.

No it’s what makes me miss my shots on widow otherwise you know I would have rekt enemy team :triumph:

my console-playing self looking at my options like

"brightness, prioritize frame rate

yep, looking good"

Clearly my bad aim is a me issue then. Since this didn’t help at all.

You probably wouldnt be able to notice it when watching someone else play, but you can certainly feel it while playing. I’ve had multiple other people test it out on their own setups and they all could feel a difference. I wouldn’t be encouraging people to install an external program if it wasn’t worth it. It also would get theoretically less and less noticable at higher framerates, to the point where it probably doesn’t matter if you use the ingame cap when you get 600fps, but then again I havent had a chance to test that so idk.

Also, well, capping the fps with rivatuner fixed all of my aim issues, as I was one of those people who could aim good in every game but overwatch and i for the life of me couldn’t find any solution for it for the longest time, and this combination (well, this is a bit simplified but all of the other settings i use are pretty much just to get more fps, not neccesarily something everyone needs/wants) of settings as well as lowering my mouse DPI to 800 finally allowed my aim to work properly (which, incidentally i would also reccomend doing)

I hope that’s not considered cheating :V

Didn’t know that and it seems very useful.

This was always placebo to me.

Limiting frame rate is better for negating excessive input latency caused by GPU bottlenecking. Set it slightly higher than your refresh rate, for example 360 Hz → 400 FPS; whatever is stable yet slightly higher than refresh.

Make sure vsync and variable refresh rate (Windows feature) are disabled. Reduce buffering should only be enabled if your FPS counter is showing 2 dots (example: 400 …)

Disable full screen optimisations is good (called Exclusive Fullscreen Mode) and gives full graphics priority to the game, but it will drop support for overlay such as Discord, etc as Windows DWM is no longer managing it.

I go to lengthy extends such as manually stripping Windows ISOs of components and features using tools and research options a lot.

ahh… OK I wasn’t picking up you HAD to install Rivatuner.

Would the other settings alone (other than the FPS) help?

I’m not about to install 3rd party stuff. They already struck people who had innocuous keyboard and audio software.

questionable

useless

it’s just the way it displays. Before you say stuff like that, check timings in videocard software, they will be even

Here’s someone who asked about it before and there’s the answer they got. As long as the software doesn’t give you an ingame advantage like walls or aimbot they don’t care, especially if it’s a commonly used software, which RIVATUNER is. If you still don’t want to install it then the rest of the settings will still help, just change the ingame framerate setting to the highest consistent framerate you get as well as “DesiredFrameRate” in the .ini file.

I understand it’s not defined as a problem… but neither was the software people got flagged for in the past. It was the auto anti-cheat that did it so I err on the side of caution with OW.

I’ll try the settings out though. Thanks!~

Ah yes because everyone knows the best way to play OW is at 1280x720 (30hz) in windowed mode…

Not really, for some odd reason average SIM increases if I set the ingame framerate anywhere lower than 600 even if i cap it externally. Could be the game lying to me, but I havent tested it enough to know for sure.

No? I have an overlay on rivatuner that shows me a graph of the frametimes and if i don’t cap it externally it isn’t a straight line ( straight line means it’s capped correctly )

He is circus archer while somewhat skilled who couldn’t even say Mahabharata properly while claiming to do the styles in there.

True instinctive archer are simple even when they do trickshots like

Or his inspiration howard hill

Or the simple meditative approach of kyudo
Were form and focus is more important than hitting a target

What I find really interesting is how well done hanzo is in first person view , real world techniques like gap aiming or instinctive aiming work on him without crosshair aiming and would even say it’s better in some cases.

If you run the game at 60 FPS, that would be literally 16 ms per frame. Average human reaction time is 250 ms and the absolute fastest is around 190 ms.

You are most definitely not going to be able to feel the difference, let alone see it.

I don’t think there would even be a big enough difference in order for you to gain an advantage, simply due to the fact that the difference in position of your target with and without that frame is negligible. If you miss, it’s only by a few pixels, in which you probably weren’t going to hit them to begin with, being that far away from the center of their head.
