Yep and that is why the number of tank players have dropped enough that they had to use Priority Passes to lure dps player into play tanks. It seems that shields may become even weaker in Overwatch 2 if the 800 Rein shield is any indication of what is to come.
Not all effects are equal for sustain. A shield really helps Orisa survive. However, you can ignore shield in different ways. Hammond with 600 shields overhealth can never be ignored by any type of damage source as you have to hit through it to actually kill him. Unlike say I hit Winston out of bubble and heâs vulnerable to all damage.
The only trade off is say hammondâs self sustain is still very CC weak. It doesnât block CC in the slightest while shields can block sightlines to CC. Shields remove crit weaknesses as there is no weak spot on a shield for double health.
However, buffing shields buffs that CC resistance and damage mitigation for double damage for anybody behind the shield. This is why I think Orisaâs fortify buff was really good. Fortify now acts exactly like how a shield is in all respects, but its only for Orisa. Its blocks all CC, it stops headshots, and it has a health bar.
The only issue I have with Fortify is that as its reducing damage its ability to act like a self shield that canât be ignored is based upon her health. If Orisa uses fortify at 100 hp the value of that self shield is only worth 66 in shield health. Though if you use Fortify at 450 health its like a shield valued at 300 health.
Thatâd make shields weaker but wouldnt fix the core issue of 3 tanks or healers being OP and 1 tank/healer being underpowered.
I think this change to her fortify will not improve her situation enough. To me she will most likely continue being an under performing tank who needs another shield tank to perform adequately. I think she needs better shields instead of a better fortify.
For Hammond your right about his personal shields, but I think that its is the combination of weaker shield plus less boop distance has caused his current downfall.
Long dps queue times are the result of poor tank balance. I main tank and havenât played for 2 months.
The game is dying because of handicapped matchmaking. I donât wanna queue tanks as a high MMR tank player because whenever I do it solo my teammates are usually considerably worse than my opponents which ruins the experience completely especially since the fun in playing tanks is heavily impacted by your main healer and tank buddy. This means that tanking most of the time isnât fun just because of the skill difference and/or when theyâre off-role players while the opponents arenât in the same situation
This is also why every second veteran player is just hopping on their alt account instead to manually get rid off handicapping or at least get on the positive side of it. Thatâs how I handle it whenever I decide to do solo stuff nowadays. Even though at this point I get similar players than on my main account after the MMR has settled accordingly, my teammates are as good as my opponents are way more often for some reason which is why I keep playing on it. Itâs the pre-requisite for having fun so as long as this is the only way to fix it, players are going to keep doing it
Not really, Blizzard are the reason the game is dying, theyâre always making awful discussions, releasing badly designed heros thatâre always problematic⌠i mean ffs Brig literally changed how the game is played, if it wasnât for goats we wouldnât have 222, they show the same thing in WOW, unfortunately Blizzard really have no idea how to run a competitive scene, theyâve already bit off more than they can chew and theyâre still trying to add more.
Other than that it seems alot of things weâre wanting right now are actually happening but not for this game, tanks in general have been reworked, new maps, new game modes, alot of OW is just kinda being ditched for OW2, now they have basically said OW2 is a reboot it starts to make more sense but its a real issue for the game weâre all actually playing.
DPS q times are bad thing but honestly theyâre just the start of it, the game is littered with issues and it all comes down to Blizzard not knowing how to run a competitive scene and refusing to learn or even admit to their mistakes.
Iâve never made this comparison before, but i just thought i was writing that, Blizzard are much like many of their players, they could make the same mistake over and over and over and still somehow not learn.
The game isnât dying. They will lose people between now and OW2, and then there will be an influx.
Maybe constantly nerfing tanks caused people to quit, resulting in more dps times.
Seems the tank role constantly get the biggest negative changes in the game. Itâs not surprising is some of them quit.
One of the reasons yes, but definitely not the only one.

DPS Q times are the reason the game is dying, lets face it.
And why are the dps q times long?
Because all the tank mains have left the game.
That is a huge gamble. Lets say OW2 is released and it turns out to be just as bad balance wise as it is now? What then?
They just starved 1+ years of content and lost a lot of people only to end up where they left off 1 month later. Announce OW3 so they can go dark again for another 2 years and hope for the best?
Also lets not forget that OW 2 is heavily focused on PVE. If the PVE part turns out to be good, while the PVP is still an unbalanced mess,it could easily turn OW as an IP into a PVE focused game, because money talks and OWL isnt exactly shining bright atm.
It would be hilarious, if their way to make PvE more interesting would be simply buffing enemyâs health or weakening heroes in some ways.
Yeah, Itâs possible they wanna make OWoW through OW2. PvP will be there ofc but could be treated like WoW Arena.

That is a huge gamble. Lets say OW2 is released and it turns out to be just as bad balance wise as it is now? What then?
Blizzard has done this for years with wow expansions, they know people will come and go as games get older.
Its a gamble, but one they have already made.

SIMPLE SOLUTION TO THIS:
Make tank fun to play
Yup, that should be the goal.
But then tank would be unfun to play against.

But then tank would be unfun to play against.
As long as they can be dueled 1v1 vs appropriate DPS, itâs fine.
At worst, the amount of players youâd lose would be smaller, than the amount youâd lose by not fixing queue times.
And itâs absolutely worthwhile losing 0.1-1.0% of the playerbase, to avoid losing 5-20%.
Killing isnât what attracts me to Damage. Itâs the heroes kit etc. and certain play style overall.
because of that reason i play openque, you should try it aswell
