Blizzard notoriously overwrites their old games to make way for the next chapter. It is only recently that they have begun to embrace their older IP’s - earlier WoW servers, D2, SC1, WC3 (yes, we know it stank and could have been better)…
I personally think the devs should make an old arcade card for the 6v6 version of the game for those who like to play OW1 how it is. But I don’t see them doing this unless there is a large interest. OQ only came about because there was a large enough interest in one region.
If something is and will almost certainly remain a broken mess because of something central to the new form of the game (overbuffing tanks to function without cotanks), to the point that interest will quickly trickle to nothing, does that really count, even, as “having” that something?
5v5’s changes to tanks’ individual power levels have made a mess of the ability to have more than one tank. Having unrestricted role access is central to Open Queue. The two will not likely be able to fit together.
At present, there is no “Open Queue” so much as simply a (barely more softly forced) “3-0-2 queue” as an inferior alternative to the standard 1-2-2 queue for which one’s role is pre-selected.
So, no, I’d argue that the fact that Open Queue literally cannot survive in OW2 is pretty well representative of the differences between it and OW1.
That’s not to say I disagree with your other, broader points. But whether the game will have, in any actual/viable sense, Open Queue is actually tightly related to the larger issue at hand.
No, its really not. Its a further evolution of the game and there is absolutely no reason players who enjoy OW1 will not enjoy OW2. There will always be those that chose to not enjoy the game like yourself I guess. All I can say is I think its fun as hell and I doubt I’m alone in that opinion.
You’re not alone thinking OW2 is fun, but OP isn’t alone thinking OW2 is not what we bought the original Overwatch for.
OW2 does away with much of what makes current Overwatch fun. Yes, it fixes some long-term problems, and I do appreciate many of the hero changes. But the swap to 5v5 and a heavy-handed focus on pure damage is boring, nonstrategic, and isn’t what made me into an Overwatch fan to begin with.
At this point, I think splitting the playerbase is considerably healthier than you think it would be. Otherwise hardcore 2-tank, 6v6 players who stuck around here all this time because we like Overwatch 1’s particular gameplay loop will simply leave for other games. Given the option to continue with a 6v6 mode, I can see myself and some of the rest of my 6v6 peers be willing dabble back and forth between the old and new formals, and some may even make the switch permanently to 5v5 given enough time and encouragement from friends—but that is much less like to happen if the mode suddenly goes away with the OW 2 update. Others may never make the switch, and honestly, that should be fine. It was ok letting splitting the playerbase and letting people having their Open Queue for all this time when they were supposed to have “moved on” to Role Queue. I wouldn’t hold my breath on trying to sell the upcoming coop/single player game as a means of retaining multiplayer players who are not interested in the new 5v5 play style.
Keeping players playing Overwatch and interested in the League and its merchandise, as well as the game itself and interested in paying for content in whatever new DLC store, and/or in battle pass fees, will earn Blizzard more money than dropping these players altogether.
Besides, if you are fine with Blizzard dropping its long time supporters in hopes of catering to a new one, just because their current vision aligns with yours, how long do you trust in them to not eventually radically redesign the game in a way that dumps you to the curb as well? How much time would you be willing to invest then? Perhaps more importantly, how willing would you be (and how much) would you monetarily support a company knowing that it isn’t interested in long term customer retention—compared to one that respects its loyal customers for their support over the years?
ow1 has no playerbase. maybe for a small indie game.
good to see 1 tricks malding now they cant soft throw games and get carried half the time.
malding because you now have to carry your own weight and swap heros as the game was designed for, the pve is what you should be playing.
According to the Workshop in OW2, there will be an Arcade mode called “Quick Play Classic 6v6” with Role limits (2 - 2 - 2 OR no limits). The thing is all players needs to understand that this game isn’t made only for them. It’s made for old and new players in favour of bringing back old players who left in the past + bringing in new players.
It helps to give the devs constructive feedback what you like and what not, so they have an imagination what people like and what not.
They also didn’t announced their new business model for OW2 yet. This will probably getting revealed when we are closer to the launch of the PvP update. My guess is that it will go F2P (PvP).
PVE is not the PVP experience we crave, nor a long term gaming solution.
I’ve been a one-trick since 2016. Many of my friends are one-tricks. Few of us play comp anymore. I haven’t touched it in years. We play together as a group of friends. It’s not even the same game mode you want to so desperately “prove” to us how bad we are or to claim we are “unhealthy for the game.” Why not let us (and other 6v6 preference) players have our own mode, segregated from “hardcore” 5v5 supporters, where each group of players can play in peace away from each other? Because…
It’s bigger than you think. Many of us have been Blizzard fans for decades. And we have money too.
I can only hope that is true. I tried the Open Queue in the newest beta patch with my 6v6 friends. Much better experience for all of us having two tanks and one healer, (although it still played a bit weird with the new balancing, but I’m sure we could adapt fine to that), but otherwise, I still disliked losing the extra player (in particular, the smaller groups means leaving out one of my friends from the usual group).
Well, not completely, it won’t have the PvE (once it releases two years after the PvP part).
What? You’re not getting a game for free. You’re getting the PvP part if you already have or buy OW1. Nothing is free.
Why would OW2’s PvP ever be F2P? This makes no sense.
You do realize if OW1 stays a 6v6 it goes into maintenance mode and you will never get any new heroes, maps or modes, right? That would have to be the trade-off. If they do splite the playerbase and keep both as different as Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, the most OW1 is gonna get is comp seasons and maybe some balance changes every few months.
That’s quite literally what OW1 is gonna be. It’s gonna have OW2’s balances and 5v5, but no PvE.
“Hostile takeover” … dude, do you think that using inflammatory words and euphemisms like that is going to actually help your cause? Its their game and they are upgrading it, they are not hostile, nor taking hostages or “taking over” anyone … what?
Stop the drama and the overexaggerations and adapt to the new changes like everyone else. What you are saying is not feasible and its working as intended. If you dont like the videogame, there are many others out there, not a big deal.
thank you. this is what I’ve been thinking from all the footage I’ve seen of OW2.
it’s literally just Season 9 and prior/pre-Brig OW. how is that a bad thing? if flankers are out of control like people outside these forums say, then maybe Blizzard will finally nerf mobility like they should’ve done in 2018.
