Done playing until this Role Lock garbage ends

Love this community. Reads vague analogy, thinks it is a personal attack… lol

The game CAN be played with any combination of available characters, but yes, people would switch to play heroes they didn’t WANT to play, and yet wanted to have on the team. People did this a LOT, and they did not enjoy it.

Now, they don’t have to do that.

“Freedom to play any available character” is way less meaningful to me than “Freedom to play the character you want”, which is far more likely with role lock.

Sounds like you are unhappy. Maybe playing something else for a bit will be good for you?

Come back with a fresh outlook.

I respectfully disagree

Once we had freedom, now we have Forced

I am well aware of my options, and I choose to remain

Blizzard had a major investment going on E-Sports before Overwatch was released, and they started their preparation and work for that area in advance of the game’s release. Capitalising on E-Sports was always their number one priority on Overwatch.

If there had been no interest in the game itself, there’d have been no interest in watching folks play it

Disagree all you like.

I have more freedom to play the hero I like than I did before, because it’s more likely our team structure will support me playing that hero in a decent, and fun to play composition. That is freedom I care about.

I admit I am no longer free to switch to Widow/Winston/Genji/etc. if I queue support, but the freedom is meaningless to me because I never wanted to play them anyway.

And if I do flex, I’m flexing reliably into a hero pool that I am well acquainted and effective at, leading to more enjoyable games.

Really, the disagreement here is what kind of freedom you want out of the game. The freedom you want is meaningless to me, and the freedom I want has brought me back to the game now that it has been implemented.

Forced has brought you back to the game.

Hmm

Not my cup of tea - if I am being forced into anything, I expect to be compensated, as it’d be just like work - but to each their own

As I’ve explained, I’m not forced into anything. I’m picking what I enjoy reliably.

The only thing I’ve lost is the ability to play heroes I have no interest in playing.

Scratch that- I do have an interest in playing them, but not at my current ELO. Which is great, now I have the freedom to play those heroes in games I won’t be wrecking because I’m in the incorrect ELO.

And yeah, this brought me back to the game. Once I started playing this on the PTR, I was hooked, after having taken quite a while off from this game, with actual few plans to ever return.

What we had previously was not freedom. It was anarchy.

Now we at least have some base level of structure.

A lot of people watch streamers and E-Sports without participating in the game itself. And a lot of people participate in the game without taking interest in E-Sports. It’s not a given that people who play the game equates to viewers.

Anarchy suggests removal of a governing body, a leader

There was never a governing body - none of the 6 random internet players were “in charge”

as such, what we had was Freedom

I am sad to see it go

There many be a few who do so, but the interest in watching the game being played and/or talked about is derived primarily from interest in the game itself.

In the absence of such interest, those activities dont occur

The game itself is the governing body, it just lacked a strict rule set.

The issue is that the game didn’t implement these rules for 3 years and people got used to playing the game in a casual way.

I too have stopped playing comp. They took away a lot of the game trying to balance and it’s not working.

there are far more that dislike than like this change so happy for you but in the end if it stays people will abandon this game in troves and then you will be gone again but so will the entire community.

No it doesn’t. Anarchy is literally “a state of society without government or law.” It doesn’t imply there was ever leadership, just that there isn’t any now.

Based on what, exactly?

I respectfully disagree, and stand by what I stated
