Will everyone switch to 6vs6 or is this another Snyder cut with a very loud vocal minority.
Soon we will have the definite answer.
I am sure going to play it. My main gripe of OW2 is that a tank player matchmaking usually decides the match before it has even begun. Tanks are really frustrating to play against as well in OW2. With clever gameplay I could kill tanks in OW1 as support. This is pretty much impossible in OW2 if you have a tank with more than 5 braincells.
Role queue and Role lock are not the same, Role queue would basically be choosing a preferred role and then the mm searches for other people whose preferred role fits in a 2/2/2 environment. But you will still have the freedom to switch role during the match if you need to. (Probably limiting role switching to between rounds only)
I think this whole 6v6 discussion is just a bunch of kids high on nostalgia whipped into a frenzy and spearheaded by some ‘prominent’ influencers
Nothing more
5v5 is the best format for the game if we look at it from a pure player population standpoint. The least popular role is the least required to make a team while the more popular roles make up a larger % of a team comp
The format is fine, its just the balance team cant do their jobs and make the format work because they dont know what they want tanks to actually be. They have no direction and it shows by all the flipflopping of tank changes every seasons
My only issue is with the min1, max3 test (and other 6v6 modes)…are there going to be any balance changes for it? Like would you be removing role passives? nerfing Tanks? Nerfing Supports - primarily aoe healing too? (and I suppose that also goes for 2-2-2 but slightly less so)
And what if some of the hero reworks for 5v5 RQ don’t work particularly well in a 6v6 or 2-2-2-2 mode? Could we see hero reverts or??
You rank them the same way we did before RQ. OW was OQ for years.
That said, I think that only tank should be locked (to two max, whether it’s 5v5 or 6v6). That way, most of the time, people get to play their best role if they really can’t flex.
Great info; glad to hear stuff is finally happening.
One big issue for this season’s tests, though:
This will be 5v5, with the maximum number of each role limited to two. This includes Tanks, but they will be tuned to Open Queue balance, meaning they will have less health. You can freely switch heroes and roles as long as the new role doesn’t already have two players.
This doesn’t work because with simply reduced health pools, certain tanks are useless while some remain completely unaffected because of the 2 years worth of power creep they’ve received in other ways such as buffs from passives or reworks.
Also if I’m understanding what’s been said about the S14 tests, we’ll have pre-rework forms of heroes in that mode in the first test and in the second we’ll have the OW2 watered down stuff where complexity was removed? I hope this is the case, as it could well provide a lot of information that to many of us is obvious about how problematic a direction we’ve been going down these last 2 years.
I can’t answer that only theorise these are some ideas:
place you within the tier of your average skill across the roles so a GM support, plat DPS could be matched with high diamond low masters players.
place according to your rank in your preferred role, force you into that role for the first round and only allow switching between the rounds.
Or they might even block certain roles you can swap into if your skill level in those roles are too high for the match. (Like what is done if you try to queue for comp with a group of diverse skill levels)
You mean the time where the best way to play the game was to have multiple different smurf accounts so you could actually play other roles and heroes without being punished
The time where people were so scared to not play anything but their most played heroes because it would be seen as throwing
You really didn’t need to smurf, no. And witch hunting people is a public profile thing and is still the case in a RQ world. People would be toxic if they could load up that support’s profile and see they had a million hours on Mercy and only Mercy.
Props to them,I really wasn’t expecting the team to genuinely be willing to potentially go back on their decision to switch to team formats - they’re learning after all.
