Cox communications connection issues

I just got off the phone with a cox tech support about this issue, they said last night the servers were making it where people were unable to connect to battlenet etc.

they tell me that Activision/Blizzard has to contact cox to get this resolved.
so how do we get this resolved if blizzard has not done anything about their servers in several days concerning cox customers?

Cox tech support sounds like they are giving you the run around. Did they do any type of trouble shooting with you? Or try to assist you with opening your ports?

I have Cox internet and have had zero issues connecting to Blizzard/Activision servers.

they did nothing to try and solve the issues, game was fine yesterday around noon, i get on this morning and get connection lost when trying to enter the game.

there is nothing in my power i can do.

Have you tried Power cycling your internet?

Unplug router from wall, Wait about 3 minutes, Plug everything back in, reconnect to internet. See if you have the same issue.

Also try port forwarding (It’s not hard to do, Google your router + port forward)

Overwatch - PC Port Numbers.

  • TCP: 1119,3724,6113
  • UDP: 5060,5062,6250,3478-3479,12000-64000

Nothing has changed on my end. I have no connection issues on anything other than overwatch.

Right but resetting your router and letting it cycle can assist with it.

And the port forwarding is for Overwatch specifically.

Hey all,

This is already something that our network technicians are investigating and they should be working directly with Cox to get it resolved.

If we need any additional information we will make a post to request it. In the meantime if you’d like to use a mobile hotspot or a VPN that would likely work around the issue and allow you to play without disconnecting.

I can connect to HotS and Destiny fine, it’s only Overwatch that’s broken. I can’t hotspot or vpn that, those connections aren’t reliable enough for me to ensure my games won’t drop and I get marked as leaver.

I have Cox in Phoenix. I am not getting any error messages, I simply get a cycle of “Connecting -> Searching for game server -> Game server found -> Entering game -> Lost connection to server -> Login screen.” Switching to EU did not resolve. I also got “game server connection failed, retrying” looped for a while before successfully connecting to KR.

I’m in the same boat here. I’m trying the VPN suggestions that jambrix mentioned and I was able to get into the game. Performance seems reasonable so far with the VPN dumping me on East Coast servers- I’m at 100ms ping.

What about the console players? Are we just sh*t out of luck?

I am also experiencing these issues, Cox internet in Virginia; ping jumping from typical 50ms in-game to 110ms via in-game monitor, but the game is just jumping all over the place and is unplayable. Also unable to login straight from Bliz launcher; game launches and fails login, requiring me to re-enter username/password, which it does not normally do from launcher.

Hi,

Along with everyone else it seems I am having server connection issues and losing SR due to disconnects. I have done troubleshooting and it doesn’t appear to be on my end. I’ve tried different computers and different internet connections (through my router at home and that at my parents house earlier today, different ISPs). Both ISP’s say there are no outages occurring in the area.

This, along with the other reports I am seeing and friends in other parts of the country that are also experiencing this, suggests to me there is a wider server issue. I don’t lose connection to any other online game, and my ping is consistently around 10ms. I just wanted to add my 2 cents into the connectivity issues and hopefully enough will pile up and you guys will look at your own servers as the culprit.

Unfortunately, reporting an issue isn’t enough information for Blizzard to do any investigating. They will also need a WinMTR report that shows your routing and lag issues so they can see where the error is happening. https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/27780

Ok so I can’t even log into the game now, it gets stuck at “entering game” and then says it lost connection to server. I can’t run the winMTR because of that while in game but I ran it with the IP address that Overwatch uses - I am not sure if I did it correctly, this is what it shows.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

This test looks good, so either the connection is repaired now, or maybe there’s an issue with your route to the normal server you connect to. Have you tried since you did this test?

I am getting the same error when trying to log in to the game.

I’m also having this problem. I have Cox ISP in SoCal. WinMTR shows no packet loss however one hop ae1-br01-eqla1.as57976.net (137.221.68.33) sometimes is spiking to 200ms (worst being almost 2sec) however this only happens once every few minutes. I have tried everything in network troubleshooting except releasing my IP since i can’t. I’ve been trying to get in for almost 2 hours i managed to enter the game once but i didn’t try and start any matches because i was worried about d/c’ing and i didn’t think to try testing in QP at the time.

I managed to get in a 4 times now. It seems to (for me at least) gone from never working to 1 out every 6-ish attempts to connect it works. I played several QP games and haven’t been disconnected or anything. When i run WinMTR on the IP of the QP server I’m in ae1-br01-eqla1.as57976.net (137.221.68.33) is still having spikes but still no packet loss.

This is likely related.

I am still having the issue since posting that winMTR it never resolved even though the connection looks fine. I do have Cox ISP in the socal area so I am probably also being affected by this.
