Can’t see myself playing OW2 as a support main

Game just isn’t fun to play as a support anymore, I have 0 protection and I can’t really defend myself against DPS who want to mow me down.

Widowmaker was already miserable to play against, now with tanks being basically just another DPS but beefier, it’s ragequit worthy.

There’s a million FPS games that are fast paced team death matches, Overwatch was entirely unique, even compared to TF2.

The most depressing thing is I bought Overwatch because I loved the 6v6 strategy, medium paced gameplay displayed in beta…. Now you’re completely changing the fundamental aspects of Overwatch and we as loyal players don’t get any say in it.

It’s a joke. WoW, Diablo, HoTS and Starcraft… it’s like it’s become the goal of Blizzard to drive their fans away.

Inb4 a bunch of shills say youre just playing wrong, as if that will bring in more support players

Ana still looks fun to me. Baptiste, I’m not sure yet. I need to watch more people actually play him. Lucio is also better as well, although I wish they made him a bit stronger since he still feels limited in what he can do. Zen is fun as usual.

Never really got into playing mercy, moira, or brig much though so I doubt I’ll main support either if I get a choice. In OW1, I had no choice and it was either tank or support and I chose support. In OW2, I’m most certainly going to main DPS. But I’m still unsure if I prefer tank or support more in OW2.

Nah. The issue is similar to how Tanks weren’t fun enough in Overwatch 1.

They just need to make Supports more fun.

But unlike Overwatch 1, they can powercreep Supports, without the game becoming “Defence Biased”.

[OW2] Regen for all Roles, Speed for Supports?

Seeing Hitscan and Sojourn just melting stuff has me reconsider my hate for OW1 and losing a Tank. Being honest they aren’t addressing a core issue is Hitscan DPS especially Widow. Beta is just terrible

The unfunness of tanks had nothing to do with Thier kits, it was because of Thier squishiness as defences we’re axed.

I really don’t know who you are fooling.

That’s part of it. But I think the self-sufficiency and lethality they now have are a big part of why the role appeals to players that would otherwise be playing DPS.

That said, I could totally see devs increasing the lethality of Supports.

Just admit you don’t want tanks to be tanks anymore. Please just stop with the facade. You don’t give a damn about this game.

Okay sure.

I don’t want Overwatch Tanks to be MMORPG archtypes for “Tanks”.

I want Overwatch Tanks to be Class Based Shooter “Heavies”.

And I genuinely don’t care if the labeling is confusing to some people, because the gameplay is what matters.

And this is not what an OW1 tank is. That’s exactly my point. You are selling out what made the game special for different players.

As I said, you don’t give a damn.

I’d argue Overwatch 2 is closer to the Offense/Defence and FPS/MOBA ratios of Overwatch 2017, then Overwatch 2022 is.

Also I genuinely want Overwatch to have the largest playerbase it can get. And clearly the Overwatch 2 version of Tanks is dramatically more popular.

This is an absolutely absurd take. As if raw numbers mean anything about a games quality. You are literally admitting you would rather have more players at the expense of a worse game

The funny part is I think you will be wrong about the player numbers too. I foresee this game ending like Halo Infinite has. Small base of players.

Time will tell

I wonder how many are, and how much dropping one tank has just evened things out.

Of all the people to use this line on, how did you manage to do so on the person that might care the most? You’ve got to pick a better line, cause that’s hilarious.

Is a game a “worse game” if it’s more popular?

Tanks aren’t completely fixed yet though in OW2. Balance-wise, they did a great job. But there are some things you can’t easily fix like hero design. A lot of the tanks were designed and balanced around synergies with other tanks. So heroes like zarya feels awkward now as the only tank in your team.

No he does not care. He is saying as much. He literally says he would rather change the game (imo for the worse) for raw player numbers

I do not believe that is caring about the game. In fact, I’d argue such destructive rebalancing is going to further quicken the games death.

In my view he is advocating, willingly or not, for the games destruction.

Absolutely. Hell, we could have just literally copied Fortnite with an OW skin, and I assure you it would be more popular. It would not be better.

Your destructive views would endorse this. Anything for the raw numbers even if it means undermining the games niche

Incidentally, I’m pretty happy with the direction Overwatch 2 is going.

✅ Next Experiment: 1-2-2 SoloTank
I miss any "Tanks from FPS games"?

Thought experiment. What if OW2 was a battle royale game that doubles the player count with new players, but 80% of existing OW players quit. What would you think?

Imo I’ve been having the time of my life playing support, compared to OW1. Right know I feel like most supports have a certain impact in the course of the game, they are even more important than before.

I’m a Mercy / Ana main mainly, I sometimes switch to Moira or Zen but the same impact as support is still there. Yes, OW2 games are much more “chaotic”, aggresive and quick, but personally I find that as something I actually enjoy.
I guess people can have a hard time playing supp rn unless u have a smart team, but that also happened before.

I think if you could guarantee that, then ActiBliz corporate would be all over that.

But that it wouldn’t be likely to be able to get that much interest with how saturated the BR market is, and without having an existing playerbase that would like it.

That said, if Overwatch 2 makes the vast majority of players happier, and then gets the a bunch of new players. Why should the devs care that 5-10% like it less and a subset of those would quit?
